I was watching Mitchell-Mayweather today...
Then Merchant was asking him about Hatton(this was b4 the fight interviews)..
Then Mayweather said..
"It's not the belt that makes the champion. Ricky Hatton doesn't take risks like me."
That shit just got me fired up and pissed off...
That's the reason I fucking HATE Mayweather so much!
He has definately beaten a lot of great fighters, but he can't live off of those names for the rest of his career...
Really though, he hasn't fought a world class fighter in 3 years now...
I really want to see this guy make it BIG..
but I just hate how he is managing everything so far.Actually alot of fighter through history have lived off big fights won earlier in their careers. Who you have beaten not will possibly beat is what determines hall of fame status in boxing. Doesn't matter who PBF beats from now on his accomplishments are set in stone.
I mean mayweather is a great fighter but after the last fight it seems like he is interest in money more than pleasing the fans.
Let me explain something, don't think im being rude. Pleasing the fans = more money. That's why in Mayweather last fight he tried for the knockout. A lot of people that goto boxing events want to see knockouts. Mayweather makes more money if more people come. If Mayweather won every fight hes had by vicious knockout he'd sell out anywhere I guarentee you that much.
I disagree on Castillo. Castillo has been labeled a plodder with questionable defense. The same is said about Hatton. I believe both have underrated defense as a result. In any case, I think Hatton is tough like Castillo and will deal with whatever he has to in order to get inside on Floyd. Floyd will not stop Hatton if Tszyu couldn't. Tszyu has a lot of power and was landing on Hatton a good amount. Floyd may land more accurately but he also won't be in a dighfight with Hatton taking his energy away like Tszyu did.
KT was also landing only 1 punch at a time. PBF will be hitting him with 2,3,4 punch combos. After 8-10 rounds those punches will start to take their toll on Hatton. And if this fight happens in the US all of that wrestling won't be allowed like in Manchester.
I'm probably just massively naive, but I don't understand why Hatton and Mayweather wouldn't be DYING to fight each other, because whoever won that fight would be considered the undisputed dominant 140-pounder of the era... don't they both want to try to achieve that status, as opposed to never fighting and always having a giant question mark associated with their carrears?
when has hatton fought outside of manchester?
He has fought outside of Manchester a few times earlier in his career...since he's been on a championship level however? Never...
I know he fought in Detroit at the FOX not too long ago...maybe like 3 years ago he was here fighting some no name.
once again i agree with you but with one reservation, pbf is harder to hit, and thats is a lot more mentally taxing especially when you are getting hit, hatton was able to hang in there against KZ because he was also landing shots. KZ landed but not succesively, at the very least you will agree that pbf will land more combinations than KZ did on Hatton, if he can ride throught that then I will concede even if he looses.
hmm

ARE YOU JOKING OR WHAT? Challenging Kostya ISN'T a risk? DEFENDING AGAINST him would be. Fighting for a world title is not a RISK, man. It is something every boxer dreams of doing.
ALL HAIL ICEMAN!

Thats another fight that boxing needs next year...after Judah that is.
very good point i dint think of it that way, market value that is. But as for hatton and castillo, dude castillo has skill i mean real skill, defence, head movement and all, did you see how hatton kept walking into lefts against KZ, dont look at the battle JC had with DC that was just bad judgement on his part as you saw in the second fight he moves very well, not just smothering his opponent or rough housing him. he has the ability to adapt to the situation thats why he gave pbf a tough time in their fights. Hatton.... good fighter yes.. but in oder not to get stopped he needs a better defence, pbf will not be looking to stop him with one shot, Hatton got hit too many times (though not clean hits)by a slower and older KZ (one 3 round fight in 22 months or so) so pbf will land all night and Hattons corner will eventually step in. We all seem to forget the buzz about him fighting corrales, tha buzz about him fighting castillo, he wasnt expected to win. Now Zab on the other hand has speed and power on his side but i still see his poor defence and lack of focus in the ring will hurt him against pbf.

yeah, he's such AN idiot...
I love the irony in these people calling fighters idiots when their god damn post title isn't even grammatically correct. YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
The only problem I see with Hatton being stopped is because of his face. He has a tendency to swell which is bad news when you fighting a sharp, offensive fighter like Floyd.
hmm
It's very doubtful that Floyd would stop Hatton. Hatton and Zab have different styles and many feel Hatton's style is more of a threat. See the Castillo fights. Anyway, they'd make MORE money in the UK, and there's no problem witht he fight being there as Hatton is the champ anyway. They can have neutral refs and judges though. But Floyd doesn't sell well. There were about 6,000 ppl at his last fight at the Rose Garden whereas Roy sold 12,500 there. Floyd is not a draw.
let me get this right, some people here think pbf belives he can beat zab judah but doent think he can beat hatton? really guys come on. Why should pbf go to england to fight hatton for less money, its just like hatton coming to us to fight pbf for less money. they have to come to some compromise. but if hattons people say we are not ready, chances are this mean pbf will stop hatton.
If by July, Floyd has not fought Judah, Margarito, or Hatton.
He will then be labelled as a PUSSY!
I'll give him 7 months..
I expect Floyd will chose Judah, mostly because he believes he can beat the guy, not because of belts or any other consdieration. Floyd's first thoughts will be all about beating the other guy, who ever it may be, as opposed to building a legacy on truly taking the toughest opponents avaialble.
Although May gave Gatti a beating, he could actually learn something from the guy .... fight the toughest opponent avaiable and take a chance at making a legacy for yourself.
hmm
It's hard to believe Floyd based on his current behavior. Either way, Hatton just won the title and it's no big deal for him to fight Maussa right now. It's acceptable. After that, Hatton and Floyd need to fight each other. If Floyd prices himself out because he's too arrogant to take a 50-50 split, he's ducking Hatton. It goes for both fighters. Floyd has talked of fighting HUGE names for the last year and hasn't delivered. I'm expecting a delivery soon. Neither Hatton or Floyd's career would be complete without fighting each other.
Yeah, but like he said. You can duck a fighter by pricing yourself out or you can duck a fighter by not being willing to fight.
Well obviously it's true, SLW
Because even after that when he recently challenged Hatton. Hatton's people said their boy isn't ready yet and asked for another year.
So let's do the math here.
If Hatton's people say he wasn't ready for Mayweather a few months ago, and Floyd says that the fight could have happened over a year ago...what's not to believe?
hmm
Floyd is the one talking shit. Hatton is not. Floyd needs to step it up and back up his words or else not speak them.
Granted Hatton's biggest risk was fighting an aging Tszyu without leaving his hometown, but, why should we believe Floyd has had any real intention of fighting him in the pastor future? Floyd, by his own words and body language in interviews, gives himself up. He basically admits he asks for more money than the other guy, and if he doesn't get it, he says they duck him. What kinda bullshit is that? He doesn't deserve a higher split than Judah and Hatton and Winky just because he says so.
Floyd's early career was awesome, but he has been stagnating for 3 years now. Hatton's win over Tszyu changes things. Hatton is THE man whether Floyd likes it or not, and they have to fight each other. And if Floyd demands more than 50% of the purse and after that claims Hatton is ducking him, Floyd is a bitch.
