I saw the fight on Sat, If I recall Rivera was throwing back(although not landing), & Simms hadn't landed to many hard shot, I think only one after the knockdown that made the ref stop the fight. I think Rivera could have put himself together & fought hard for a few more rounds, How did y'all see it?
You could clearly see that Rivera wanted to keep going, but Simms was hitting him with some shots that could do some big damage. Did the ref say anything to Rivera following the second KD?
if at some point in the fight he had hurt simms or put simms in danger or some thing then i would call it a premature....... well not premature but ........ man i dont know he was getting his ass handed to him at it wasnt getting better. The ref has to make sure its a fight not a beatting. Well he was the champ though.... maybe he should have giving him a chance.... or waited for another knock down......... na stop it his defence was gone.
The stoppage was good, but in fairness to Rivera, both the KD's were questionable. If you look at them, he was definitely stunned by the punches that were credited with the KD's, but both times it was the bullrush that actaully created the KD's.
In the first case, he was bullrushed into the ropes, and was not held up by the ropes, so I didn't understand that one. He was getting low to avoid fursther punches.
In the second case, it was a shoulder during the bull rush that finally made him go down.
Rivera was wearing enough advertizing in the fight to make me wonder if i was actually watching NASCAR.
The first KD was legit - it was a prior punch that did the damage. He was going down no matter what other physicality occurred...

You don't remember correctly. Rivera was in bad shape and hadn't thrown anything back for a little while prior to the ref stepping in. He was even told by the ref that he needed to see something after he got up the second time...

From what I could see it was not broken but it bled a lot... maybe a broken blood vesseel. That was a big problem because obviously he had big trouble breathing..the cut on the nose was pretty bad, though, too.
No, that was a legitimate stoppage. The thing was, Jose was obviously off his game and Simms at that very moment sensed blood and was going all out with a lot of momentum and was in his zone. I am usually not in favor of stopping fights and Jose DEFINITELY didn't want it to be stopped but under the circumstances it was a good stop.
Nope...good stoppage. Rivera was being battered and was showing no signs of ever being able to change the outcome of the fight. He would have taken some serious punishment had the ref not jumped in.
True he had been battered, but at least to me it didn't seem like such a lost cause, & Rivera seemed willing to continue. If Simms had landed a few more hard shot after the knockdown it would have been a good stoppage, it just seemed to soon for me.
that fight was over after the 2nd rd when simms landed that first hard left. rivera had no answer for what simms was doing so i don't think that stoppage was wasn't premature by any means.
