I cant believe that you guys are leaving me out of all people to defend your boy. I see some on here who have jumped ship but where are the die hard Cotto fans at and you know who I am talking about. Dont hide now. Defend your boy. You guys act like he lost or something. Thats almost as bad as jumping ship on him.
In boxing, if one is hit by one punch that is placed properly (in this case the temple) it is inevidable to get stunned, rocked, whatever you wanna call it. Just because he is 20 pounds lighter doesnt mean that his punch to the temple shouldn't hurt someone. He got hit with one punch. And after being hurt he was able to defend and hang on. At what other point did you see him hurt?
let me clearify me point. im not saying chopchop is better than cotto, im saying the fight showed me something about cotto i didnt like, chop chop 144 on fight night agaisnt pbf 145 (1 pound difference) cotto had almost 20 pounds on chopchop, if pbf had 20 pounds on chopchop it woud have ended really early for him. cotto is good but i belive now that he is not as good as i thought he was.
Miguel blew Corley out of the water in this fight. Demarcus Corley is a good fighter who has also hurt Mayweather and pretty much beat Zab Judah. Remember, Corley lasted 12 with Mayweather and was robbed with Judah. But chop Chop had a small chance with Miguel a punchers chance. Other than that, Chop Chop was out-classed.
Did u Watch the Fight? Cotto dominated Chop Chop.
yes cotto won, but i saw who cotto was after the fight, a middle weight who come down to pick on jnr welters, he weighed 157 against chopchops 140 and chop chop stuned him badly, i mean if they where only 5 pounds apart chopchop would have stopped him dead.
cotto = bob arum's creation
hatton ko cotto in 6...
PBF ko cotto in 6...
castillo ko cotto in 8...
i think cotto can beat hatton but he will lose to castillo and pbf
Miguel and Ricky
Miguel was hit by a good shot, from a smart boxer. This Demarcus Corley is the same guy who with an overhand right rocked the hell out of FLoyd Mayweather jr., the best pound for pound fighter. So to discredit Corley is wrong. But the whole point is, is that Miguel came back strong. Although the fight was stopped prematurely, Corley had been down twice and was being smothered with clean punches. If the referee would not have stopped the fight, the fight would have had the same result, just later on.
Ricky Hatton is good, but has not been tested. If you watch the fight between him and Kostya, Kostya looked heavy, tired, out of shape. He was being bullied, and could not move laterally like he usually does. If he would have been able to move laterally, the result would have been different. Cotto moves latteraly and will not allow an inside fight. If the fight between Hatton and Cotto is an outside fight, the winner will be Cotto. If the fight is inside the winner will be Hatton.
Ricky's resume is subpar compared to Cotto. Also, Ricky had trouble with a fighter by the name of Ben Tackie who almost knocked him out in the 12th round.
Jabs
You have a point about Cotto & his weight issues.
However... Jose Luis Castillo is notorious for doing the same thing. People forget that when he fought Juan Lazcano, his last fight had been at WELTERWEIGHT, against some no-hoper. I'm a huge fan of Jose Luis Castillo, but it bugs the hell out of me to see him fighting a guy like Joel Casamayor as a damn junior middleweight. He came in heavy as hell against Julio Diaz, too.
I am officially a Cotto hater now.
Seeing this fucker weighing as much as BERNARD HOPKINS......getting almost KO'd......winning on a bullshit stoppage....& then his cornermen acting hard...
I want to see him dusted. Guess what ? He will be. He is a good fighter, overly mechanical, who's biggest advantage is the fact that he is a huge guy facing smaller men in there.
Had he weighed 145, intead of 157.....Corley would have knocked him unconscious.
His supporters need to see that his weight advantage is every bit as disgraceful as Gatti's over Gamache.
I think Kostya Tszyu will blast him into tomorrow.....weight advantage non-withstanding.
His corner men are really turning people against him. He needs to get people in his corner with class.

I still think Cotto would be very difficult too beat...I would still pick him against Gatti, and I think he has a good shot of beating Floyd because I don't think Floyd has the power or the balls to trade bombs with him...Floyd is the most talented fighter in the game and guys with that kind of talent don't trade therefore PBF would not be able to land the shot that Corely landed.
Corely figured out very early on that Cotto was looking to KO him early and it was like a poker game where Cotto put Corely all in and Corely could only do one thing to have a shot at winning and that was to go all in himself..
However he should have been ko'd in this fight. There are at least 5 or 6 Jr. Welters that would have finished him in his condition last night. He wasn't just hurt he was gone!
It was a perfect shot to the temple that hurt him and I don't think you can say he has a weak chin at this point...the Puerto Rican crowd certainly did not help him...his fight plan was out the window from the get go because of the wild pro cotto crowd.(Arum will probably not go back to Puerto Rico for a while)...that was as careless as I have seen Cotto.
The kid recovered very well in the following rounds and appeared to be back to full strength by the time of the horrible stoppage...blah blah blah...point here is that Cotto is still a very good fighter that is going to be damn tough too beat maybe now he will have some of the other top fighters beside HArris calling him out now. Cotto down but he may be as dangerous as ever because people think they have found a flaw...and I don't know if I saw a flaw or a perfect punch last night...so beware contenders if you are looking to duplicate what Chop Chop did and then finish the job...it is going to be a lot tougher than you think.
Fuckin a, Im defending a Puerto Rican fighter...Still like Cotto alot but I hope that your beloved Tito Trinidad gets taken too school by Winky...
well, i have only seen him hurt on one occasion. against corley. i will even say against ndou. i thought he was more tired than hurt but i guess i will give you that one. cotto is more than a good fighter. everyone would be shitting their pants if their fighter got hurt like that!! corley also hurt mayweather so i guess mayweather is as good as corley too. did you not see corley get his ass beat in there. he was getting a good beating. bad stoppage obviously but he was going to get kayoed in less than 2 more rounds after that.
hmm
On Cotto fan in particular is acting like a real smartass, but let's get something straight.
Every single Cotto fan in here was shittin' themselves in the 3rd round. You really honestly felt that Cotto was probably about to get KO'd.
Too bad for Corley he doesn't have that killer instinct.
Sosa...N'dou...Corley...
These guys aren't the hardest hitters, but they've all hurt Cotto to varying degrees. Cotto will try to stay at 140 and it's going to hurt him. Hell, at one point he said he was going to try 135, so that is a good sign that he doesn't want any part of the men who are as big as him on fight night.
Cotto is a good fighter. He is as good as Corley p4p, problem is...Corley was outweighed by 17 lbs. Cotto has a catch 22 to deal with, or a no-win situation (excuse me if my lingo is incorrect). He needs to fight smaller men to look great, but he also will need to move up in weight to extend his career and have better stamina down the road.
It's going to be interesting to see what he does.
:) Cotto performed as advertised..he's the first guy to ko Corley and gave us and the entire country a mild heart attack at the same time...thats entertainment at its best...Cotto is still the man
I agree. He did look shaky at some points in the fight, however Corley was in more trouble. Corley was backed up against the ropes for most of the fight, absorbing punishment.
Its like Bernard Roach said:
"The ropes are a good tool for Demarcus to use. He likes to lay against them and absorb shots. That is the trademark of a fighter who looses fights, yet does not get knocked out.
according to roach:
We worked on the "canvas lingo" and "Right hook bicycle" moves.
Bernard described how his fighter struck the canvas repeatedly..
coining the maneuver the "canvas lingo". The "Right hook bicycle" was easier to perform against a fighter with Cotto's punching power. "Its simple. all we have to do, is land 1 punch and run......and we have it made. Its a perfect fit for our opponent. Demarcus is afraid of Cotto's power, so it made our job easy.
There was actually a point where I thought Miguel Cotto looked great in the ring. He does seem to have a bit of pop, yet nothing that can stop demarcus.
The referee and three ringside judges then pointed out to Roach:
that his fighter lost by way of technical knockout.

I like Cotto, he came back strong, i just think the stoppage is ridiculous
it was a bad stoppage, but cotto was on his way to stopping corley in the next 2 rounds. corley was getting a beating in there. he just got nailed on the temple!! worst place to get hit on the head. all the other big shots he took on the chin never fazed him. he didn't even flinch. walked right throught them. he got hurt, worked through it like a champion, and won.
by the way i am a cotto fan, but not his biggest fan. i like tszyu in the welter division!!
You shouldnt discredit Cotto. He got hurt but he came through like a true champ
In my opinion, I don't think there's anything to do but have a rematch between them. Corely was impressive. That's the best he has looked in the 5 times I've seen him fight. They HAVE to fight again.
