Here is the question of the day! I have the answer but I'm looking for someone else to get it right.
Where do you think Roy Jones got his power from?
I'm looking for something Jones does that gives him that power.
im inclined to say Roy Power simply comes from his opponents not seeing the punch. So i guess Roys timming is the key he knew when to throw. He knew when one would do and he knew when it would take 4. If you dont see a punch coming it doesnt have to be from ernie shavers to put you to sleep. I mean the behind the back punch that took out Glenn Kelly was not hard at all ( well i wasnt the one who received it but it didnt look hard ) while the ones he bombed Richrad Hall ( he would actually wind up like a pitcher and land flush ) the put him to sleep. But Hall did go down on seemingly light punches during the fight(better timmed in my opinion)

Speed, snap, leverage, and timing?

What he said.
I never thought RJJ had heavy crunching power, its the fact that you never saw his punches coming.
If you box you'll know that its the unexpected punches that give you stars...Ive been hit hard enough to blow my whole eardrum but I never got dazed from that shot cause I expected it. Now another time I sparred with a little guy he threw an uppercut that I never expected and was really dazzed.
It's like fighter pilots. They know what turn they will execute so they can prepare and begin their breathing exercises etc to battle the G forces. Now if you are a in the back seat of a blue angles jet you will get knocked out everytime because you dont know what the pilot will do. The perfect example was a video online of a Navy F14 pilot in the back seat of a Hornet piloted by a Blue Angel and falling asleep everytime the pilot pulled the stick hard.
when you dont see the punches comming they hurt
his speed was the best contribution to his power
also including the fact he was in great shape
and was un orthodox
watch mayweathers knockouts
its mostly unorthodox shots noone
sees comming off counters and shit
its not that they hit any harder than cotto
its the fact their opponets cant brace and
be prepared for impact so they brain is shocked
and they go down
Roy Jones had power because he was the most relaxed puncher in the game. No one could let themselves be so limber and free. His whole body was loose and focused. Of course his muscles adding to his strength and speed, but mostly because of him being so relaxed.
Bruce Lee once said "To generate great power you must first totally relax and gather your strength, and then concentrate your mind and all your strength on hitting your target."
No I didn't think of all this because of Bruce Lee's quote. Most trainers will tell you that you are too tense and need to relax. Well if you had Roy Jones style, then more than likely you are going to have power.
Id agree with that. He threw beautiful swift fast shots because he was so relaxed.
Gerald McClellans punches were also similar in the sense his shoulders were always loose, and he could whip in his left to the body with imense power.
Watching Jones 2nd pro fight, his speed wasnt as lightning fast as it developed later, but his hands looked heavy. That, combined with incredible speed, timing, accuracy, combinations, made Jones a KO puncher.
He would hurt or KO opponents with punches they never saw coming.
Because he wasn't a fat, dirty ginge.. unlike you.
Ignored now... You are just weird and taking that dumb hair thing way too far. Don't you have anything better to do?

Someone said it isn't recommended to leap in like Jones did, but Jones probably has the sharpest reflexes when he was in his prime, somehow if someone tried to meet him with a punch when he lept in he'd dodge it or just move. His style lead to his downfall at the same time though
RJJ had power? ;)
He didn't knock people clean out very often but at middle and super mid he put people down when ever he wanted . I loved the shoulder shrug he'd give to the ref before he tko'd Bryant Brannon and Paz . You can tell when he gets mad after they keep getting up .
