Alexis Arguello
Had legendary stamina never saw him tired always punching and his power carried with him all 15 rounds proof of this is his knockout of Ruben Olivares.
His best wins of late has been against Andrade and Miranda. Solid wins but Miranda has been knocked out before by other fighters, so I hope people don't fall into that bandwagon again when Abraham knocked out Taylor everybody thought he was the best at the super six. Then he gets schooled by Dirrell. Bute for me is good, but I am not completely convinced either. A fight will Hopkins will be good for him though.
Yes. Everyone is doubting Green, but I think he will KO Ward. Ward will outbox him, but I can't see his chin holding up for 12 rounds against someone like Green. People keep talking about Green's loss to Miranda, but that was before Pavlik destroyed Miranda's career. Remember, that is the same Miranda who broke Abraham's jaw, not the one who gets punched around by the Super Middleweight division. Ward has the style to beat Green, but not the chin.
I think he'll beat Dirrell though.
That is a good point. I will not lie, I am a Ward fan, but his questionable chin is one of the shinks of his armor. However, he didn't get hurt by Edison Miranda or Kessler who is a decent puncher (knockout artist of course not) but I think Ward has improved a lot in smothering his opponent's punches and making them fight his fight. But who knows Allan Green does have some pop and that's what makes Ward-Green a lot more intriguing than most people think. I do think out of the Super Six Andre Ward is probably the smartest fighter and his skill set is rivaled only by Andre Dirrell. In my humble opinion.
Yes I think so. Mosley is coming off a big win while Cotto was coming off a very close win against Clottey and his body and face recieved a real beating. So yes Mayweather beating Mosley will be quite the accolade for Mayweather.
don't want to sound like a hater, and I do admire Kessler's warrior mentality but Ward is just a class above him and he will school him again styles make fights.
Yes. Pacquiao would beat Mosley I would have to favor Pacquiao considering his latest astonishing performances. I would say this though Mosley would have had a better chance of winning fighting Pacquiao than the fight with Mayweather because Floyd shut down Mosley's offence completely. Pacquiao would have forced Mosley into exchanges and in one of those exchanges Mosley would be able to land his big bombs and perhaps hurt Pacquiao.
No, they are not. That's why they need the crooked referees to help them. Can you prove this? Or are you posting out of frustration that Ward and Dirrell just boxed the ears out of Abraham and Kessler?
With the logic of this thread all the great fighters that have been defined their legacy by moving up in weight class Duran Arguello Armstrong Chavez even Pacquiao would all be suspected using enhancement drugs. Now we can all say that Mayweather is has been drugs but we can also say he hasn't been using drugs because nothing can be proven. So what? Nothing can be proven, so that brings us to square one. I guess Pacquiao is using drugs right because he hasn't been taking blood tests either? I guess that leaves us to create plots against Mayweather based on speculation ( I for one prefer to use my time on other things)
Arum ruled out Martinez at the press conference,he claims Martinez is not a ppv star (wonder if Yuri Foreman is?).That's good enough to see who wins between Cotto & Martinez,Arum probably thinks Martinez is too good.
What Arum stated is heartbreaking to say the least. Cotto-Martinez will be a great fight. I guess Chavez jr. is a better ppv star. (sarcasm by the way)
To be fair, Allan Green was just as much at fault for the holding.
He just stood there, flat footed like a mummy for the clinch, and he couldn't fight worth a lick on the inside, Ward got in some nice short punches.
If Green had gotten on his toes a bit and established a range with his jab, there wouldn't have been as much clinching.
Exactly, Green waited and posed way too much. During the fight I was calling for Green to shoot that uppercut up the middle as Ward leaned in. That would have taken away the incentive of Ward to smother him. Green had to time Ward coming in so that he can create space for his punches, but he was smothered and he got beat.
I think you are confusing clinching with inside fighting. Anyways Clilnching is a part of boxing. just as jostling for position is a part of soccer and posting up is a part of basketball. Clinching is no different in boxing.
I pick Khan by late ko or decision. Alexander is tough and has a lot of heart so perhaps Khan does not stop him but Khan's 5"10 frame and his length will pick Alexander apart. I don't see Alexander getting pass Khan's jab. It'll be a good fight though.
It's a 50-50 fight neither are the fighters they are hyped up to be in my opinion. I just wasn't impressed however they have a lot of heart and work ethic and I give them all the credit they deserve and they are very hungry for greatness. All that being said I feel Amir Khan should be ranked ahead of these guys I just feel he is better skilled and has looked great in his last fights. After tonight his win over Kotelnik is even more impressive
I thought Kotelnik won the fight quite handily
He connected more accurately
Great ring generalship (cutting off the ring effectively and positioning Alexander where he can land his straight right
Connected crispier shots
Superb defense
This is pro boxing not the amateurs that by throwing more you win a fight. I just don't see how Alexander should win by activity? how? This is not Pac-Clottey where Clottey didn't make an effort to even pressure Pacquiao. Kotelnik did pressure Alexander and took the fight to him. Boxing is about hitting and not getting hit. Kotelnik did that.
I commend Dirrell for a great performance by outboxing Abraham. The great thing about the super six is that it reveals some curiosities of the international boxings scene. its a clearly America vs Europe. It just seems to me that these fellas Ward & Dirrelll are exposing these European champions as one dimensional boxers who simply cannot deal with an abstract style. They are very linear in their boxing approach and these young Americans are exposing them. Ward did it to Kessler. Dirrell did it to Abraham. This says a lot about the differences of boxing styles between the Euros and the Americans. It's interesting. I believe Abraham probably hit Dirrell because he was frustrated. He was knocked down and outworked by Dirrell and on top of it all Dirrell is considered a prospect stepping up in class by participating in this tournament while Abraham has been elite middleweight/super middleweight for the last 4 years. IMO These guys Ward and Dirrell for stepping up in class they are making one helluva step up the ladder. Dirrell just beat Abraham although by DQ (he had a substantial lead) and Ward just completely dominated Kessler. These fighters have a bright future and the scary part is that they are still young especially Dirrell he's 26.
Arum is scared of Martinez skills? what skills are we talking here? size is the only difference. Manny already said he would go back to 147 lbs a week before Sergio beat PW. you haters talk like PW was so skilled, ATG and future hall of famer that suddenly Sergio become a skilled fighter. no one even consider him a future hall of famer at this point and you guys talk like he is already ATG.
If skills were not a factor as you claim then Pacquiao should take the fight since Pacquiao(out of all people) has proven a more skilled little man can beat a less killed big man. Please do not resort to calling me hater because it is childish and I don't have time for that bs. I am just calling the shots as they are.
He was a week late. Pac said after the Margo fight that he will go back down to 147, he just felt the power of a 165 pounder, he's still a belt holder there. Martinez came in at 168 against PWill, imagine the world of hurt he can do to Pacman, but if Martinez can go down to 147, it will be a different story. I'll be the first one to crucify Pacquiao if he doesn't take the fight...
Has Pacquiao relinquished the 154 title? It's a serious question because I don't know maybe you can enlighten me. If he hasn't yet, then Martinez has rightful claim to challenge him if not then yeah Pacquiao should only worry about his 147 belt.
These type of comments prevent great fights from happening and really hurts fighters' careers. Martinez at 35 is looking for fights and nobody wants to give him an opportunity to prove himself. Angulo Shaw says no. Williams wants the Mayweather or Pacquiao fight, Arum will probably not put Cotto against him now. Margarito prefers Pacquiao first. The only two guys who want to fight him are Winky Wright and Dzinziruk. Mayweather may fight him but negotiations are still ongoing with Pacquiao. By saving Cotto's career you are endangering Sergio's. Life is unfair.
Wonder why they don't call out Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez?
Anyway Angulo does stand a chance against both fighters. Margarito and Cotto do fit his style for the most part. Margarito will bang with him and Cotto will try to outbox him but Cotto has had trouble outboxing very good pressure fighters as is evidence with Margarito, Clottey, and Pacquiao. Therefore I favor Angulo against Cotto. However, who knows what new tricks Emmanuel Steward has taught Cotto. he is in a different division with a different trainer we can see a whole new Miguel Cotto. As for Margarito he looked very bad against Mosley and it isn't like he was outboxed he was OUTFOUGHT and that is usually what Margarito does to his opponents. Angulo has never been stopped like Margarito so I must say he still has that pschological edge and in a battle of wills which Angulo-Margarito will be based on their styles, that psychological edge can make all the difference. Again, I don't know where Margarito is mentally until we see him fight Garcia. As of now Angulo can possibly outbang him.
by boxing public do you mean flomos? and who said pacquiao doesnt want to fight?
Before the Thrilla in Manilla Muhammad Ali made some VERY derogatory comments to Joe Frazier and statements like calling him a "gorilla" and accusing him to be a "conservative" which at that time meant he was an "Uncle Tom" Frazier didn't sue for damages and racial slurs, he got there and fought Ali. I didn't say Pacquiao doesn't want to fight, I said fighters settle their differences in the ring. So, I don't know where you got that from. As a boxing fan, I am upset that the biggest fight that can be made is not being made and instead all we get is this lawsuit BS. Both these guys think they are bigger than boxing and it is a shame b/c these guys were very humble guys at one time. I prefer to see guys like the Super Sixers, Paul Williams, Sergio Martinez, Timothy Bradley, and Devon Alexander instead of waiting for Mayweather-Pacquiao. These guys don't BS they just fight and are true P4Pers in boxing today.
P4P is the bull**** title than Sergio wanted it badly by saying it? tell that to Sergio. i wish i could support Sergio's quest of becoming p4p number 1 by beating Pac or FLoyd. but i cant.
Vernon Forrest beat p4p number 1 Mosley but wasnt awarded the title. so was Taylor when he beat Hopkins. its not how it works.
I don't care what Sergio wants. I want to see a good fight. If he wants a p4p mythical title so be it that is on him. I don't care. Whatever motivates Martinez Pacquiao or any fighter to put on great performances in the ring and put up the best fights is fine with me. But I for one do not put much emphasis on p4p status and such because in the end of the day it is all opinions.
