I hate to say it but I believe clinching should be viewed in the same way as a low blow. Boxing should be about two men sticking and moving or standing and trading shots. it shouldn't be a jab and then ten seconds of hugging. If I wanted to see that I'd watch UFC. And I'm not just saying this because of Ward vs. Green. I've been thinking of this for a long time. I think it's a good idea for two reasons. 1. I think it would lead to more exiciting fights, and 2. I think it would be better for the boxers as it would truly showcase their skills and would cut down on the amount of punishment the get. Feel free to disagree with me, it's just my opinion. P.S. I realize excessive clinching is going to affect the scorecards but I think a more agressive stand needs to be taken.
Wow I didn't expect such a response. Sorry if I pissed ppl off. I understand clinching is a part of boxing, I guess I just wish it wasn't. I enjoy the chess part of the fight game. Personally I enjoyed tonights fight. I'm not exactly a watch every fight fan, mostly because I' m poor and can't afford cable. I just personally enjoy toe to toe wars. Sorry, feel free to say I'm not a fan of boxing(which I think I am), but I'm another person trying to get all my friends to watch the fights with me so fvck off because I just want to see the sport pass everyones expectations.
No it shouldn't, guys need to do a better job training for it
if you don't have good footwork or a jab, you don't stand a chance against a good clincher, Ward style is different though because he does mix it up, he kills you with speed on the outside but then he can take you inside and pick you apart
so no you don't chance the f*ckin rules
Not only does he clinch. But he holds and hits and billy goats with his head!!! He is a dirty SOB. As much as I hate to see it. I mean if he is getting allowed to do it then its not his fault!! Th ref needs to stop all that crap. He would never be able to do that in Europe!!!
I thought he billy goated Kessler to death but he kept his head right in Greens chest. Ward would be difficult to beat even on the outside b/c he has speed as well. If he beats Dirrell the tournament is his b/c he is to hard to hit clean and he fights like a pitbull.
wat a lot of these guys wanna see is not boxing, is streetfighting. nonstop punching and nothin else. wat happened to all the boxing fans?? boxers have fought that way for centuries and now its a prolem???damn...smh
You're taking it to extremes, clinching has it's place in boxing. But what Ward does is ridiculous he throws one or two punches jumps fowards and holds. The refs need to do something about this style as it's being abused by safety first fighters like Ward and Berto.

man that fight was exciting, real boxing fans can appreciate what Ward was able to do. Ward mixes it up well and that division is a skirt exposing division and Ward is exposing everyone he gets in the ring with. He's like an exciting version of Hopkins and he didn't headbut as much.

if anybody was holding excessive it was my man Green, Ward had his head in Greens chest. Ward simply put is just hard to hit and discouraging as the fight goes on. Ward's resume is getting better and his confidence grows with every fight he has. I thought Green was going to start crying at the end of the 10th round, he had a serious case of pumpkin head.
lol, do u guys watc boxing???clinching is part of the game. fighters who cant do it end up being limited, no matter how skilled they are. look at cotto. if he knew how to clinch, he wouldnt eat so many shots all the time. manny is the exception, altho it might hurt him once he fights floyd.
Thomas Hearns as good as he was had no idea how to clinch.........when he got in trouble this was a big big problem!!!

fanboys and bandwagoners who jump ship at the first loss or bad performance........these homos don't understand boxing or it's history!!!!
Mayweather, Ward, Dawson, Berto and Dirrell would never even win a fight if they weren't allowed to hold excessively.
Ref's aren't hard enough on holder as they need to be. They should be deducting way more points than they do.
These fights are unwatchable.
Mayweather hold excessively.........are you fukking bling???
did he hold against SSM or was Shane doing all the holding and pushing (bar rd 2). What about against JMM, was he holding there......HAtton?? Gatti? Judah??
Are u fukking kidding me???

If I could do what Ward does I'd do it everyday, he was dishing out punishment and rendering Green completely helpless. He is an excellent tactician.
He is a boring fighter though. Dirrell is the only guy who can possible trouble him. Froch would at least be aggressive in the clinches against Ward and be able to match him for physical strength but that's it.
I'm not a fan but he is an excellent fighter. He just seems to eat up the clock. A Ward round disappears. Which is weird because they are boring rounds.
I doubt Ward loses for a long time.
I think you are confusing clinching with inside fighting. Anyways Clilnching is a part of boxing. just as jostling for position is a part of soccer and posting up is a part of basketball. Clinching is no different in boxing.

Exactly a bunch of noobs.
