Promoter Lou DiBella sat ringside at New York's Yankee Stadium to watch Miguel Cotto stop Yuri Foreman in nine rounds to capture the WBA junior middleweight title. Following the fight, HBO commentator Max Kellerman gave some of his usual post-fight opinions, and some of those opinions didn't sit well with DiBella.
I'm not sure if Kellerman meant for his comments to present themselves in the manner that they did, but he said something regarding "Cotto reaching a certain point in his career where he can live off of his name" and how Cotto doesn't have to fight guys like Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez.
"It's a good thing Kellerman is not program director. Now Cotto doesn't have to fight the best? He doesn't have to fight guys like Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez because they are too good? So now if you're too good, you can't get a fight? Those comments are a disgrace," DiBella said to BoxingScene.com.
