I've only just joined which is fair enough I guess, but seeing Cal represents my nation and is the only real Welsh boxer of world standard (Enzo is getting there and Cookie seems to be off the scale) I believe I can have a JC signature without flack...
yep after all to quote football factory 'we are an Island race'
Exactly. May have our internal banter between the principalities and provinces but at the end of the day, whether Harrison the Jock, Calzaghe the Taff or Hatton the Lime are fighting against foreign foe, we are all going to be behind them...
There is nothing wrong with being proud to be Welsh or English or Scottish, but Calzaghe is British. He is a British citizen. He has an MBE from the queen. He is British.
He is Welsh and British though. Don't see him accompanied to the ring with a Welsh flag for nothing
Joe is Welsh but also British, a race within a race... However Lacy didn't wear an English football shirt to the weigh in for nothing :boxing:
Joe, I believe sees himself as Welsh primarily, as does Ricky sees himself as a Manc/English though we all want our compatriots to beat the Yanks in the ring ;)
People were saying he wasn't ENGLISH, and thats right, he's still not english, he welsh. Hence why Jeff was trying to get the english crowd behind him to make it a England vs Wales. England, Wales, Scotland = Great Britain = British.
Hit it on the head near enough...
Though the media is sometimes commonly criticised so for example when Andy Murray in the tennis does well, he is British but when he plays crap, he is Scottish. The same could be said for Joe, when he boxes poorly, he is Welsh but when he fights well, the English are quickly to embrace him. Tongue in cheek really :boxing: But Joe is a proud Welshman firstly
C'mon guys... You should of worked this out by now... The World IS America
The World Series in Baseball, the Superbowl Champions also being the 'World Champions', heck the WWF :boxing:
yep that is fucking joke....I demand a Great Britain team be included, or maybe just an English team. Seriously I have no fucking idea how anyone can watch that sport it makes Cricket look exciting.
...and cricket itself is up there with paint drying for most stimulating activities in the summer :D But it just shows that you must fight in the US to be a world champion  Seems compulsory in this day and age unfortunately, luckily Ottke is out of the game now then
yeah his gf was a fuckin loon. He should get rid of that tramp.
She was screaming like a nutcase, I could swear I saw Gary Shaw put her back in her seat! :D Lacy really needs to put a leash on his dog
On last nights performance I think Lacy would actually lose in Krautland, especially if it goes to the cards  JL couldn't land a descent punch for love nor money this morning :boxing:
As I said Calzaghe won impressively, but Calzaghe was Holding and hitting throughout the fight and that is not legal in any way.
So Lacy wasn't excessively clinching or hitting low either??? 6 of one, half a dozen of the other... Joe shut out a supposedly better Lacy, now give the kudos to JC and leave it. This pointless bashing to make Lacy look less pathetic is pathetic in itself
hopefully lacys life goes on,
he aint out of hospital yet
Of course. Lacy's own corner should of been more compassionate though as he was on a hiding to no-where from round 8 onwards, hopefully he ain't in too bad a way though...
It all depends if you are a 'fan of boxers' or a 'boxing fan'. Some guys hate to see their favourite fighter lose so will defend them till death whereas others admire the sport as a whole and able to see these faults that these fans are blind to...
Pac in front of him, too. But I think I'd put Tarver behind him IMHO. I think it's very possible that Calzaghe would have beaten the version of Johnson and Jones that Tarver beat, if he was as up for those fights as he was for Lacy.
It's all debatable as that's what P4P is but JC is definately Top 5 and no lower IMO
I agree, it all came from the "soccer" crowds that we get over here. Trust me, if you think that is an atmosphere, you wanna check out some of the football matches that go on over here, they are like triple that... Football is virtually a religion in this country, but people have begun acting the way they do in a football stadium -- in a boxing arena too... Oh and cricket! Of all sports, you even get an atmosphere at Cricket matches now... its so great to experience... :)
Well you get the football fans at Hatton's fight most definately through his strong allegiances to Manchester City FC. Similarly Joe has many Cardiff City FC supporters who travelled up to Manchester to see the boxing lesson. The British fans to create the best boxing atmosphere, they chant and overall add to the big fight spectacle. Although when Joe fights in Wales is where you see his partisan supporters at best :boxing:
Of course Lacy can come back, this loss can only make him stronger and he would of learnt alot from this experience. He still has time on his side, there is no reason why Lacy cannot dominate at 168 when JC moves up...
he was fighting a rubbish oponent...
...Tarver, Hop, Winky, jermain Taylor all beat him !
IDIOT ALERT!!!
Face it, a Brit beat one of your overrated Yanks from here to Timbuktu :boxing: White men can't jump, but they can definately box!!!
Cali is not top 5. He beat Lacy who's not a p4p great. He just exposed Lacy as a green and overrated fighter.
Joe's dominated the division for years, remains unbeaten and beaten a supposed superior fighter with extreme ease. Longest British World Champion as well, and there is no-one at 168 and the divsions immediately below and above whom Joe can't beat at the form he showed yesterday!
Calzaghe is Top 5, definately... Only Brit-phobes and idiots wouldn't see that...
IMO, the only fighters possibly above him are Hatton, Mayweather, Pac and possibly Taylor...
Give JC the respect he finally deserves!
Bare in mind this fight is in Germany right... Danny Green who IMO is up there in 168 outboxed Beyer twice yet still got DQ'ed and lost by MD. Lacy wouldn't stand a chance out there based on yesterday's performance...
Bloodshed, you loving this timezones argument aren't you but that re-inforces how good Joe is, beating Lacy at his own body clock time whereas it was at 2:30am for the Brit :boxing:
Lacy was schooled and a beaten man. Get over it and give JC some respect rather that try to take anything away...
Good choice for Hatton IMO. He is big for Light Welter as it is and seeing that Floyd is going to Welter as well so it makes sense. I haven't seen Collazo fight really so can't forge judgement yet, but this is the right move for Ricky bar unifying Super Light
Well by your classification you are bound to see more interesting fights at the 'Lower weights' as from Lt. Middle downwards there are 12 weights and above it are only 5 weights so there are more fights hence more interesting fights.
Also I think at the moment the heavier divisions have been dier as of late. The Heavyweight scene is an embarrassment, for too long RJJ and Hop dominated their divisions and for too long Ottke, Beyer and co avoided Calzaghe. With this distinct lack of competition these divisions have been deadbeat. Whereas at Featherweight you have/had JMM, Pac, Morales, MAB and going further back, Tapia and Ayala willing to take on eachother, whenever and wherever. Also at Light Welter, though there was a dominant Champ on Tszyu, there were othe boxers with immense talent about (and disregard for their own safety) hence creating exciting match ups.
All in all IMO, if there are talented boxers willing to take on eachother then there is an interesting weight division however of there are talented boxers avoided each other, then it'll be a "Yawn Fest" (RJJ and Michalczewski rings a bell there).
If Joe unifies Super Middle or/and goes on to conquer Light Heavy (Win's against Tarver, Woods, Johnson) then he should most definately be a hall of famer. He is unbeaten and held a world title for 8 years with no real trouble :boxing:
This is Jones' last hurrah really. Maybe it is the money, or this is his last real chance to get a major title but I can't see RJJ grabbing a win against Joe, especially if the fight is in Cardiff :) Can't blame the guy for trying though so big ups to Roy for that
Is this fight signed already?
It's looking that way but nothing is official yet. These are all based on assumption and we all know assumption is the mother of all f*ck ups. But I do really hope this fight comes about :boxing: Just to see RJJ once more
