Calzaghe's performance was so unexpected and spectacular, against a fighter who has been a demolition crew against solid opposition, that I think he does rank top 10 P4P. No, he's not higher than Mayweather, Wright, or Pac. But when you get down to the Tarver, Castillo, etc range then I think you have to rank Calzaghe in there.
Why?
Because this is the type of performance that defines the term "Pound for Pound."
Calzaghe rarely took a solid punch, but the few that he did take- like the overhand right in the first rd- he took with no problem. After the fight, his face looked exactly the way it did before the fight.
Calzaghe showed immense skill and professionalism. The way he used his jab, kept Lacy confused and turning.... they way he tied Lacy up when he needed a little break and would rest, then let Lacy go when he was ready to go again and would push him back and hit him- he controlled the fight down to the smallest details like that.
Even the little pscyhe job before the fight about feeling terrible and out of sorts because of the time. That just sounded like a tactical leak to me, so that Lacy could hear it and be surprised by how he jumped on him and kept up an insane pace.
Only the way Pac beat Morales and Castillo's KO of Corrales rank above this performance by P4Per's in the past year.
Castillo? Good one... Someone who has 3 losses in his last 12 fights
That's pretty stupid man.

GTFOOH LOL
Taylor #4? Really... and what has he done other than won 2 fights by a very, very, f'ing very close desisions over a 40+ year old...?
Castillo? Good one... Someone who has 3 losses in his last 12 fights
Wright #1? Because he embarassed Trini..? Well, Lacy completely outclassed Lacy, and?
Oh.. I know...... It's the American, anti-European factor again, that's what it is... the bias view got into your head
Why are you so paranoid? You remind me of stupid liberals who think all white males are bigots. Get a clue, jackass.
Taylor beat the number one 4p guy twice. Wright deserved the nod over Vargas, had two wins over Mosley, and easily defeated Tito in a way that not many foresaw. He has been very consistent for YEARS. Castillo has fought 10x better opposition than Calzaghe, which is why he has those 3 losses. One of those losses was highly disputed need I remind you. Also, one was to Floyd in a rematch and the other was a loss he AVENGED BRUTALLY.
Lacy was not even on the p4p list. End of story.
The reason I brought those up was more to refute your "hey, it's only one big win!" argument. Now your saying it boils down to who the "big win" is against and how good they are.
Calling Lacy a "prospect" is just some leftover Calzaghe-hate creeping out. The guy was a prospect in 2000, dude. In Mar 2006 the guy was a reigning IBF champion who was coming off of his -what?- 4th defense? 5th? I mean, he was not "green" and had passed through all the gatekeepers of the division and had beaten several of the top fighters in the division, and done it in dominating fashion. I think he'd left "prospect" long behind. He was a reigning, defending world titlist going into the 5th defense of his title.
The point is, he's had 21 pro fights, none agaisnt A class opposition.
That's why he wasn't on pound for pound lists yet.
That's also why he doesn't compare to guys like Tito, Oscar and Barrera when they were on the losing end of spectactular one sided fights.
It was a great win over a good fighter, but it was one win. The 1st time he's had a noteworthy win in years.
Top 8-10: I don't see it, but okay
5 - 7: Reallllly stretching it.
Top 5: Out to lunch
Comparing Lacy with Trinidad coming off multi divisional titles in a string of PPV KO's is a might stretch. As is comparing him to Oscar, who was at his 4th weight coming off his only career loss, a very contraversial loss to Trinidad.
In both those cases you the fighters that lost being proven pound for pound super stars.
Lacy was looking like a great prospect, was strong, and the way Calazghe beat him was admirable and shocking and very impressive.
But suggesting beating a fighter with 21 pro fights who hadn't beat serious competition himself should vault Joe into the top 5 is way too rash.
As I said, 8 - 10, maybe, but no way should he be any higher than that.

Joe said it best about not being greedy he just wanted to crack the top ten which is what I think should happen...so do you.
Go ahead and tell me you love Joe like I do, say it you son of a gun you love Joe!
I said 8 - 10 isn't ridiculous. I didn't say it was what I thought. ;)
That was pathetic. Especially the part about JuyJuy.

i had lacy on my p4p list, number 10 i believe, and this win for joe clearly puts him from 7-10. i could accept 6 as well, but hes not close to 1-4 yet
That's a valid point, but not in regards to boosting Calzaghe's pound for pound status as high as some here think is a given.
It's fair to say the way that fight played out was more dominating than Hopkins vs Tito, Shane vs Oscar, Manny vs Barrera,
but regardless of it being before or after the fight, Jeff Lacy isn't and wasn't on the same level as those names.
That's because those names were pound for pound elite, something Lacy wasn't (yet).
Thus suggesting Calzaghe, who hasn't done anything significant in years (or maybe ever) prior to this fight,
does NOT get boosted to the top 5 pound for pound.

Do you really take the internet as seriously as I think you do? Nevermind,
Do I make dramatic goodbye speeches like this
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b163/dantzu/Truprincesscopy.jpg
And then come back in hiding under other accounts?
No, I don't. That's being a little bitch that takes the internet too seriously.
And FYI, it takes 2 mins to make a gif. That's a fraction of the time it takes you to register for a new account to hide under. Bitch.
The perspective that was missing was the Lacy buildup before the fight not after-I have said over and over Jeff was matched perfectly but no one wanted to hear that, just about every American expert had Lacy walking right thru Joe-you just about had to be from across the pond to pick Joe, hell maxboxing had 15 writers predict the fight and 14 of them took Lacy-almost all by KO. (had Lacy of won the boxing world would be abuzz about this guy name godzilla I mean Lacy-he didnt win therefore Joe should be afforded the same luxury)
To compare Lacy to Cintron and Peter is so easy today on Sunday night-so fucking easy, Im betting you would not have said the same thing yesterday around 5PM-Lacy compared to Cintron and Peter-this is the definition of monday morning quarterbacking.
Now, with regards to the fights I mentioned, Im talking about the fashion in which Joe won...it was as dominating a performance as you will ever see...is Jeff Lacy a bigger name then James Toney...fuck no, but not my point...my point was Joe C put on a better clinic/beating and he did.
I dont expect you to agree with a single word-you wouldnt be Bozo if you did-dont slap me to hard hear bud.
