LOL at all of a sudden all these fans with Calzaghe in their signatures like they've been behind him the whole time  ..
Don't get me wrong, i know a number of posters that have been behind Calzaghe from the beginning, but there must be like 30 new posters with Calzaghe in their sigs, i guess it's safe to jump on the bandwagon now...
Lacy was only 22-0 when he fought a veteran like Calzaghe who had 40 fights almost twice the ammount Lacy had....Lacy fans were dumb to be hyping him up! Calzaghe is a joke too the only decent fight he had in 43 fights was Kessler then he fought some over the hill fighters!
After reading this thread... and then THIS post... just wow.

Now it's payback time and you don't like it, LOL. Good riddance. I'm really happy for them.
i was a calzaghe fan well before the fight
i stated it in a few prediction threads beforehand and also backed him to ko lacy after 6th round in the v-bookie which i sadly lost but i seem to have got the 22000 some how that i wuold of got for the win

well i don't blame them. its just normal to be proud of their fighter in one of the biggest wins of his career. i don't see anything wrong there.
Because all you disrespectful Lacy fans drove them away by saying Joe's a "fraud", a "fag", a "chicken" without even seeing any of his fights. Now it's payback time and you don't like it, LOL. Good riddance. I'm really happy for them.
I must correct you....we actually refer to him as "Calfaggy" :D
but seriously, I figured Lacy would win and I was wrong. I had seen Calfa...I mean Calzage fight and wasn't that impressed. I'm afraid I fell hook, line and sinker for the Lacy hype. Having said that, masterful and dominating fight by Joe. Fun to watch a guy fight so beautifully. Lacy will be back...but I'm sure he won't fight Joe again.
I watched a couple Calzaghe fights just to see what he was about before this fight happened. I watched the fight with Eubanks and some other recent ones against guys whos names I can't remember. I liked the Eubanks fight, but don't remember anything about the other ones. The fight against Lacy was very impressive, and I really enjoyed watching it. You could say he's made a fan out of me. I thought Lacy would win, but I didn't make any predictions. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing Calzaghe fight again. I'm not really sure why anyone would want to gloat about someone winning a fight. It's one of those mystery things about sports, where fans feel if they're "on" the winning side, it somehow makes them feel superior. It's not as if you're in the ring with him, so I'm not sure where the bragging rights come from.
Im gonna be 100% honest here.. I wasnt a fan of Calzaghe before the fight, and I admitted to that in a prediction thread for this match-up... I said "Im not a fan of his at this point in time" - closely choosing my words so that I could possibly become a fan after the Lacy fight... call it what you want, but what I will say, in my defence, is that I did predict a Calzaghe UD, and won 2 billion points in VBookie...
So say what you want about me, and how I have stood up for Joe on these boards of late, but I did predict the win, and I told RunWithKnives, Manny_P and a couple of others that this fight alone has made me a fan, not just someone who acknowledges the talent, which is what I did before...
:boxing:
I think people can say they became fans by watching a great performance.
If those people were unsure or never seen him fight before, as boxing fans they are entitled to show they are now Calzaghe fans, and admire the way he fought.
I didnt like Calzaghe until he fought Eubank, but the way he fought proved he was a great fighter.
EXACTLY! Yeah, there's a lot of Calzaghe enthusiasm in boxing right now, among fans and writers alike. He earned it, and that's exactly the kind of performance that fans like to see. Did Joe run after round 8, when he had the fight all but won? No, that's for DLH and others. Joe came after him for every minute of every round, even when he had the fight in the bag. He didn't even really take a round off! He just came into every round with the purpose of putting as much hurt of Lacy as he could, while staying smart and keeping his footwork.
It was one of the most surprisingly impressive performances that I've ever seen in boxing quite honestly. I had seen him fight many times before. I liked his fight with Sheika, but that was a bs stoppage, as impressive as it was. I liked his fight with Mitchell, which was more of a legit stoppage but a little questionable. But the way he got up off the canvas against Mitchell was very impressive- because that wasn't a flash knockdown, he was genuinely hurt. But he got up and was more than happy to get into a firefight with Mitchell and immediately put Mitchell down and proceeded to land about 30 unanswered punches until the ref stopped it. It wasn't a bad stoppage, really, the ref just picked a weird time to stop it, after Mitchell had staggered for like the 3rd time but was moving forward again off the ropes. The Brewer performance was also impressive, especially back then, because he beat the best version of Brewer.
But none of that really added up to him making Lacy look like amateur. Nobody, even the Brits, could have predicted he would have been that dominant. And let's face it, Calzaghe and his fans have taken an absolute thrashing in the US media and on message boards for years now. So they deserve a little grandstanding and a few pats on the back. Not frustration and hate. So all the Lacy fans, and haters who used to say "Calfaggy" and "Calslappy" and trash Joe non-stop, need to swallow your hate and frustration and just give credit where it's due. There isn't one honest boxing fan on this, or any, forum who can truthfully say they weren't immensly impressed with his win over Lacy. So stop trying to now degrade Lacy after the fact and call him "green" and a "prospect" and all that biased nonsense. Just be a unbiased fan for one second and enjoy that performance, because they don't come along very often like that in unbeaten unification bouts with fighters that are as highly regarded as Lacy and Calzaghe were.

Don't slam them too hard. There's also a shitload of seasoned fight writers who are trumpeting Zaghe today too.
Props to Zaghe. I didn't expect it to be so one-sided, but I'll also admit I'd never seen a full fight of his before this, just clips.

Yeah......it did answer some questions like his heart and chin and they are both there thats for sure. There are not many guys who can box like Calzaghe in those weight classes and even fewer who can fend off Lacy like that so I look for him to be back and I bet Birmingham is all over his ass about not following instructions he landed his very good hard jab a few times when he threw it but never followed up and used it not nearly enough.Oh well I still love the guy and will be supporting him in his comeback.
Agreed completely with everything
(And yeah, im sure Dan was really dissapointed, i guess as big a loss as it was, it can still be thought of as a learning experience, i know i'm still a jeff lacy fan)
Well, Raeseed, I guess it's back to the drawing board. The good thing is that Lacy's a great athlete, and he has tons of room for improvement, if he'll work hard at it, he could really grow as a boxer.

a lot of these people had never seen the dude fight and now that they have they are actually giving him the respect he deserves. i mean he beat the living shit out of a guy that most of us were hyping as the next great fighter.
Congrats Welshwales........you are one of the very few who have really backed your fighter throughout it all.
Thanks guys Im sure your man will have his day once again though. Who knows maybe this will be the best thing to ever happen to Jeff Lacy!
Next time we see him he might be power, speed and good defence.

Spot on there mate!
Congrats Welshwales........you are one of the very few who have really backed your fighter throughout it all.
I must say I had him in my avatar since day one. I do agree though the woodwork is leaking slightly :D
Yes, you have Welshwales. You are one of the few Calzaghe fans that were here before the fight. I congratulate you, and the other REAL Calzaghe fans, along with the guys who picked Joe.
don't feel ashamed. others are in the same boat, lots of people chose lacy to win
Oh, I'm not ashamed. My picks over the last couple of years have been pretty accurate. This fight looked like it could go either way. I think even most Calzaghe supporters were surprised at how one-sided the fight was. I don't think anyone predicted the Baldomir win, either. Other than those two fights, I've been on point. But, man, was I wrong this weekend... me and a lot of other folks...
