I think the reason he retired was a combination of things;
He had legal troubles after he almost killed a man. He crashed a maclaren head on into a man in some tiny economy car while passing illegally into oncoming traffic. I think he was sentenced to a 15 months in prison because the guy was put into a vegetative state. I think he had some kind of religious spiritual awakening.
i think alot of fans like Pavlik so they really dont want to see this fight. Pavlik will get hurt if he fights Ward. At this stage in his career this would be a terrible decision as this would be the last big fight in his career.
I don't like froch's personality, but i do give him props for having balls.
His career will go down the drain if he doesnt make it a close fight, and i seriously doubt he would make a competitive rematch with ward coming off the dawson KO, he looks better every fight.
Chad Dawson Walking around weight
" I walk around at about 185 pounds"
" I could easily get down to 168 if there was opportunity for me there."

Andre Ward walking around weight
said Ward, whose walking-around weight is 180 pounds.

No excuses
Im a huge mayweather fan, as well as Manuel Marquez.
I thought it was rediculous for mayweather to fight Marquez at a catchweight, and even much more rediculous for him to come in over weight.
The fight should have never happened and proved nothing
Ward has fought world class fighters in their prime:
1. Mikkel Kessler
2. Carl Froch
3. Arthur Abraham
4. Chad Dawson
5. Sakio Bika ( not a walk in the park)
None of these fighters were drained, beaten up or handicapped in anyway like alot of mayweather and pacquiao fights have been for the past few years. In all honesty paciquiao hasnt impressed with lackluster performances againts
1.Timothy Bradley (uninpressive outting)
2.Manuel Marquez (uninpressive outing)
3.Shane Mosley (uninpressive outing)
4.Margarito (no plaster, weight drained)
5. Cotto ( weight drained)
6. Clottey (b fighter)
7.Hatton (dammaged goods, drug use)
8. De la hoya ( weight drained, drug use)
Mayweather hasnt really impressed me much either
1. Cotto (good fight at 154 for mayweather)
2. Victor Ortiz (ok fight to begin, ****ty conclusion)
3. Mosley (went toe to toe, still not too entertaining, too old)
4. Manuel Marquez (undersized)
5 Ricky Hatton ( only spectacular fight since mainstream stardom)
6. De la Hoya ( boring but impressive step up to 154 for a small welterweight)
The point being that neither P4P top fighter has had legitimate competition or threat put their way in a long time.
Andre Ward is taking dangerous fighters back to back and winning in spectacular fashion.
How is Mayweather going to slow down Canelo? He doesn't have the power, he doesn't throw many combinations. As I mentioned above Mayweather loves to lean against the ropes, he will eats shots all night. What "Tricks" will Mayweather impose on Canelo? Elbows?
The same tricks he used on mosley, de la hoya, and cotto.
His adjustments will make the difference. when it comes to choosing styles and game plans, mayweather will throw the kitchen sink at you.
-He doesnt have tremendous punching power, but when he puts it in the right place, it hurts. He is the best in the business at doing this, when an opponent has a game plan he uses precise punches to stop them.
-Saul is 22 years old, he wont know how to deal with cagey fighting. Most people dont realize how many different uses mayweather has for his elbows
-Mayweather elbows obviously to create room for set up, he uses it to pull opponents heads down so he can impair their breathing with his shoulders/body. He uses it alone to cover an opponents face (obsuce their vision and breathing) while keeping his counter hand ready.
I could write 10 pages on different things mayweather does that Saul will have no idea how to handle. The kid is 22 years old.
mayweather didnt look at 154 against de la hoya either, but saul is very young and mayweather will use all the tricks. The difference in skill level will nullify the size advantage
There is really no one for him to fight at light heavy with a name. Pascal would be about it. Im sure he'd rather get chavez or somehow get martinez. I cant logically think of any other contenders. I would bet that kessler would not fight ward again even on home turf.
There are a few huge factors that make the comparison between zab and pacquiao bad:
First: Zab is taller, with a 5 inch reach advantage over pacquiao,
(pacquiao has to constantly use his footwork just to stay in midrange)
Second: Zab and pacquiao style are very different, very different
Zab's jab is alot more effective against mayweather because he does not have to come inside just to land it,
Third: Zab judah had won 4 rounds against mayweather, then he got annihilated, it was a landslide, judah cheapshoted mayweather when mayweather got his number, he knew how bad he was getting beat
Zab won 4 round, with 1-2 rounds big rounds, Mayweather won 8 rounds with atleast 6 big rounds,
Lennox Lewis was commentating on the fight and he could not beleive some of the things mayweather was able to do in that fight:
Mayweather was throwing hooks off of his left after jabs, he wore zab down so much with body shots zab had no choice but to head hunt for a big uppercut, which allowed mayweather to eat him alive with straight rights,
floyd demolished judah in his prime period
Fourth: Judah's money shot is his left uppercut, which fundamentally works tremendously better than a left hook against floyds defense. Judah could got beneath mayweathers high guard with his uppercut, something pacquiao does not have in his arsonal.
Another thing that mayweather would also be able to do to pacquiao that he couldnt do to judah is a flat footed straight or jab to the stomach like he did against hatton and marquez, he will do this against pacquiao, it will be very effective
you mean "floyd should prove your not gay by not filing a lawsuit because if you did, you would look very insecure like maybe you were hiding something..."
kessler is a badass and i really like the guy, hes a tru warrior and probably one of the classiest boxers out there, very professional
his body punching was superb, hes very powerful and can take a punch
his problem though, like many of the european fighters is he lacks the lateral movement and instincts
hes got a ton of natural talent, hes strong, he hits hard, he can take a punch, hes in great shape, he works the body well,
andre ward is a difficult match up for kessler, ward knows all the tricks, has the speed of a young fighter, hes got great movement, thats the key to the fight
it doesnt matter how hard you hit if you cant land or get glancing blows
Andre ward not only has the physical tools to be one of the most elite fighters, but his skill is beyond his age, he makes mistakes like anyone his age would, but in many aspects he fights far beyond his age
yeah they do because he doesnt fight all of them, every single person of stature in boxing from 106 at ivan calderon to middleweight at paul williams has called mayweather out, he chooses who he fights, they dont get to chose
these are terrible arguments, though i dont agree with mayweather
the simple answer is
Sugar Ray Robinson was greater because he was more prolific, he fought over a 100 fights without losing, and over 140 in his career,
Ali was the second greatest because he had the character and charisma to match his talent, he was a heavyweight boxer which is naturally a larger draw, but he boxed like a smaller man, using alot of movement and footwork
most importantly he was a likeable guy and commanded much more respect
As far as skill goes, neither of them really have anything definitively on mayweather, its a matter of opinion
Ive been saying this for a while Mayweather is certainly not the greatest boxer, but he probably could be the best boxer
Klit Bro's are great
Extremely underrated on this forum
Name a more dominant fighter than Wlad over the last 6 years?
....Either of the boxers in your avatar
If you know anything about boxing you would know that his footwork is superb, hes losta half step comparing him to his lighter weights, but his footwork is still near flawless
its funny that you wouldnt have posted such a stupid comment if Freddie Roach had never mentioned it, his comments are political, not accurate, hes trying to mess with Mayweather
I do like both calzaghe and ward, but i would have to say wards style i think would be difficult for calzaghe to handle,
calzaghe likes his room and likes to move, ward presses forward and ties up, i dont think calzaghe would be able to get off against ward and i think that ward is physically stronger, so it would be a dirty one, but ward would pull it out
if mayweather and hearns fought 20 years ago, you guys wouldnt even remember hearns because thats how biased you are all
nostalgia doesnt not make great fighters god,
sugar robinson leonard ali,
duran hagler hearns were all good fighters, just because you have memories of their bouts doesnt make them invincible, they are all men
you could not sit here and say that hearns would destroy mayweather ina hypothetical fight because you really have no idea the circumstances of how it would take place, you just like to think of fighters of his era as golden gods
Hypothetically if this fight did happen, floyd would get on a bike to avoid hearns jab, mayweather would probably sucker him into throwing big right hooks like mosley, which his game plan would be to take it away, he would use his footwork to force hearns to chase him, lock him up and beat him up on the inside,
hearns would have a hard time getting off agaisnt floyd
mayweather made one mistake by letting mosley hit him witha big right, he didnt go down, hearns is not in another league of knockout power than mosley is, regardless if you are living in the eighties and think that no one ever could beat anyone from that era, except robinson of course
