I think Froch and Kessler would both be keen to fight Ward again on home turf but they're realistic enough to know Ward would not travel.
Indeed. Kessler would love to fight Ward again, but never in jOakland. His promotor has also said that Ward would never leave the US.

Ward did travel. 3000 miles to Atlantic City to fight Froch. That ain't exactly "backyard."
There is really no one for him to fight at light heavy with a name. Pascal would be about it. Im sure he'd rather get chavez or somehow get martinez. I cant logically think of any other contenders. I would bet that kessler would not fight ward again even on home turf.

I am a fan of Wards. However the weight IMHO did make a difference. That's not to say that Ward couldn't have won or even done the same at LHW. I believe though that it was less about what Ward could do and more about what Dawson WAS NOT doing.
I've watched both fighters, and Dawson did not look like Dawson in every other fight. Had Dawson tried and failed, that would have been one thing, but Dawson never seemed himself. He was game and clearly wanted win from the beginning. However once Ward was able to frustrate him early on, Dawson could not turn it up.
Dawson is not and never has been a gladiator type who rushes in and just imposes his will. He's a boxer, not a fighter. Still, throughout Ward/Dawson Chad seemed timid, weak and unable to muster up the energy to keep Ward off of him and earn his respect.
People don't like to hear it but weight is the ultimate discrepancy in combat sports. It plays a much bigger role than most believe. Just because Dawson rehydrated didn't completely lessen the impact that making 168 had on him.
Respect to Ward as I have enjoyed watching him take on all comers and still remain victorious, but Dawson IMHO deserves credit for coming down and not forcing Ward to come up.
In fact, I think that Dawson was hinting in the post-fight interview that because he was willing to come and fight in Ward's backyard, Ward should rematch Dawson at 175lbs and see how well he would do in Chad's backyard. It would only be fair.Fans would pay to see it after this last bout.
great post bro :fing02:
How would the Fight have been Different at 175
If Ward went up and fought Chad at 175, how would it have been different in terms of each fighters strategy, particularly Ward's?
I bet on Chad because I thought he would be able to do for 12 rounds what he did in round 1, which was keep his distance and land shots here and there.
It seemed to me, that Ward fought as if he was trying to get Chad out of there. Something that I don't think he would even try, let alone be successful at, at light heavy...
I don't know if Chad was "weight drained" in the fight, but it would be a different fight at 175 pounds...and I now think Ward would win at that weight as well and even though I do not wish to see a rematch, I can't help but wonder what if this bout had been contested under different circumstances.
CONTROVERSIAL?!? That was a straight up beatdown of an across-the-board inferior opponent. Kessler and any of his fans really don't want to see that rematch.
:lol1: :lol1:
Disgracefull performance!! The LtHvy Champion of the World wins the first round by standing tall with his hands UP then doesn't repeat the first round style again!! Weight choice WAS wrong but thats what he did, you go UP in class not DOWN!!! This guy knows how to box but for some reason thinks he needs to take a punchers posture but then all he does IS POSTURE! Terrible peformance from Dawson a real shame how some of the fighters today don't know what their doing in the ring. This is the second time (Pasqual sp.) Dawson turns in a Non-World Champ peformance!!!
Ward did what he needed to do to win, the right hook he got hit with in the first few rounds was eliminated by his counter hook then he got off first with his. Good fighter who came to fight!!! Ray
I got 4 things to say :
1.Ward exceeded my very high expectations. This dude is special, best fighter of his generation right now.
2. Dawson gets whooped by dynamic fighters, I got Pascal beating him again after he spanks Cloud.
3. I want some gifs! DE100 get on it!!!!
4. Nick Cannon, don't quit your day job.
The list of potential opponents is pretty thin. Ward basically cleaned out the division. Of course there was his controversial win over Kessler so the only real challenge for him is, as I said, Kessler in Denmark where Ward has to clean up his style.
Other than that? Maybe Junior but who knows when he'll move up?

I thought Dawson was drained. I didn't expect a dominating performance of that magnitude.
you aint lying man...I didn't see that one coming...as far as Chad being drained?...it did look like he was stuck and his guns was jammed...dude wasn't really firing nothing!!...smh...plus he wasn't taking those shots that good imo...looked weird imo...still props to SOG...he went in and handled his like a OG
Dawson is getting underrated and Ward is getting slightly overrated. Before anyone thinks I'm a hater, I picked Ward to win and win convincingly...and if you don't believe you can always look through post history.
Saying that here is my take:
That was not the real Chad in there, I hate playing this card but if you box or have boxed you can notice subtle things, for example, Even before the first kd in the third Dawson all of a sudden started gulping air and you could see that he was not right, in the first 2 rounds for the most part he was his usual self. But his legs went to complete rubber after that left hook. We have seen Dawson down and hurt before, but this was different he had no strength in his legs whatsoever, he was dipping from jabs. Now if Ward was a destructive puncher than I would give him all the credit, but he is not, he has pop, but I do not believe for one minute that he can hit Dawson that hard that he could paralyse him like that and make him afraid to throw his jab, and that is exactly what happened.
He couldn't take any of Wards power, and that makes it impossible to execute any kind of game plan, you literally can't do anything especially considering the calibre of Ward. Dawson should never have taken that fight at 168, his powers of recovery were similar to Amir Khans when he was at 135. I have always been hard on Dawsons career, mainly because his performance are so inconsistent, and he has never made the most of his talent, but this time, that was not a fair reflection of both fighters. Dawson needs to go back to 175 and take the fight again in the future AT 175. He may lose again, but I'm sure it won't be like that.
Ward's performance is something I won't forget for a long time. Never doubted S.O.G., came through in a big way tonight. Respect to Dawson for taking the fight.
