People talk about Mosley being able to KO Mayweather. It's possible.
But to me the key for Shane is his strength. Not necessarily punching power. I believe that Mosley has a nice strength advantage over Floyd, which very few have had. I think at 154, Oscar was stronger than Floyd, and you saw Oscar able to push Floyd around and get him on the ropes.
He will need much more than just his physical strength to beat Floyd, but IMO he has to use it to his advantage if he has any chance to win. My only apprehension to Mosley utilizing that advantage is Floyd's inside game. He is much more skilled and precise with his inside punching, and knows how to work weird angles and land punches from any position, including the clinch.
I'm rooting for Mosley all the way, but I really think he's going to struggle all night if he's relying on strength for the win.
Floyd's too good be bullied about, and he'll capitalise on Mosley moving in to do so. If there was some huge difference in strength then I could see it, but that's not the case here.
i dont see shane bullying floyd ala the hatton + castillo model, hes going to be more intelligent than that, and at 38 he will need to be more economical if hes going to last the distance. Hes probably best trying to draw floyd into a fight, rather than trap him on the ropes. Its too much work to get floyd to that position, keeping him there would be too much hard work for old mosely i feel.
The key for Floyd will be to use his feet.....move well and jab jab jab....if he uses the jab the same way he did against Corrales he will beat Shane....if he can't i see a rough night. He needs to jab and move for the first 6 rds and then in the later rds he needs to sit down on his punches, pick his spots, sit down exchange and then move out......my thinking is that Floyd will be more active in this fight in terms of punches thrown.
Shane's strength is indeed the key. He's not going to win from long range. His best punches here are a sweeping right cross, a short arc hook, and his body shots. Fighting the fight he needs to fight means close quarters exchanges, fighting on the ropes, and almost certainly some clinches. Shane's a strong WW and he can muscle PBF in close. He needs to do it a lot to win though. If he can find a way to cut off the ring and keep the action close, this fight is all his.
Oscar after the fight said Floyd was way stronger then he expected. The dude is a gym rat so that doesnt shock me. I actually think Floys strength is underrated Shane wont be able to bully him. Floyd as you said is the much better inside fighter. Lastly Shane doesnt even have the foot speed that Hatton has to do that he'll also have to worry about Floyds fast hands, his reflexes and his jabs. Shane is in trouble.
Floyds strength is under-rated but if Shane an finds a way to impose his he will KO Floyd........but imposing your advantages over PBF is easier said than done....but i will be honest and i have said from day one i can't see this being easy for Floyd......SSM has got too many tools for this to be easy.....if Floyd wins and makes it look easy i will be an even bigger fan......but also i wouldn't be surprised to see Mosley win.
Im pretty sure Mayweather works on clinches alot in his sparring sessions that we dont see, He knows the ins and outs of the clinches and he will not be bullied around by Mosley, but it is a tactic Mosley needs to try to test the waters!
is that your opinion, or a regurgitated response of another boxing analyst?
its a legitimate question
It's my opinion. I'm thinking about how this fight will go.
I don't think Shane can bully Floyd, but he needs to assert himself and try.
I think he will. I know going he believes hes bigger, stronger etc. I think we'll see him try to do that.
