After taking a year and 1/2 'vacation' after a 2 year 'retirement', Floyd's coming back to fight a 12-1 betting underdog no hoper. Coincidence? Maybe. But I think not.
I love how you exaggerate the odds, keep soldiering on. Just out of curiosity do you think Pac-Marquez is a legit fight? Floyd-Ortiz is plenty better. These pactards don't even try to hide it. These guys actually think Pac-Marquez is different..... yeah damn that KO in the first round this is a 50-50 fight LOL.
Hypocrisy at its finest.
Who do you think had more heart?
And how does that relate/support your farce of an observation? If anything Meldrick's heart contributed to his punishment, so don't know what you're getting at. Maybe its time to change your thread title since its failed so miserably.
Watch a green Mayweather bang it out in the early days when he actually needed to, he has plenty heart enough for this sport. Now days he's actually improved vastly mainly on his defensive abilities so he's rarely tested.
Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe we'll get a better idea when the full face off premieres, but Floyd seems almost hesitant, and looks down slightly whenever Ortiz looks at him. There's a genuine confidence in Victor's eyes. Usually Floyd knows what to do quickly in these situations, and how to break down his opponent before hand, but I don't think it's happening here. It's not the same Money May expression. It's exciting. Maybe Floyd's not entirely sure about this one.
You are wrong, sure Ortiz will be full of confidence but once he gets to the ring he'll realize what he's gotten into when he can't walk Mayweather down like he did to Berto. This is no different, Mayweather will dismantle him. People are reading way too much into this promo - "Mayweather can't even look at Ortiz he looks down! he's shook". Can't wait tosee Ortiz hitting air for 3/4 of the fight.
Even though he got beaten up pretty badly in his last couple of fights you can't question his heart and tenacity.. if his chin holds up Cotto may be disheartened again when he can't hurt Margarito just like the first time around and usually Cotto is the bully in the ring. I think Cotto can outbox him though.
Fight was close but it was in no way a robbery..... I scored it a draw first time I saw it then watched it again without the sound on (no commentary and crowd influence) and had Mayweather up 7 rounds. You'd be surprise how much the commentary affects your perception of the fight particularly the HBO team . Doesn't matter though Mayweather beat him convincingly in the 2nd fight.
We can't all be jet-setting superstar poker players Mr. Ivey, some of us have to get by in other ways. But I see you playa, I see you

LOL baller
I'll meet you halfway and call it a slight exaggeration. I probably should have used the phrase "noticeable adversity" instead of "significant adversity." You are right that he definitely recovered from both times being hurt and took his opponent apart after keeping them from capitalizing on initially hurting him, but there is no doubt that he was hurt, and things can happen when a boxer is stunned, such as a follow up punch hurting him to the point that he cannot continue the fight and would lose by some sort of stoppage.
Plus, each fight is different. I definitely am not confident or even thinking that a Ortiz stoppage win is probable, in fact, I'd say the chances of it happening are pretty slim. However, if Ortiz does end up hurting Mayweather Jr. (especially early), it will be another test of Floyd's skills to see if they can help him survive long enough to recover. Just because he survived the follow-up onslaughts of Judah (who is notorious for being a poor finisher when he hurts someone) and Corley (he hurt Cotto but couldn't finish him off, so he is obviously not the best finisher in the world either), does not guarantee that he will survive a follow-up barrage of punches from Ortiz if he gets hurt.
I agree on some of your points. Ortiz is the strongest southpaw he's faced imo but I think there's a real good chance Mayweather would be able to recover if he gets caught unless its such a good shot that has Mayweather disorientated and on real shaky legs. I mean I think he has too much experience and composure whereas I doubt Ortiz's ability to finish especially since he had so much trouble finishing off Peterson (granted it was @ 140).
To be fair, half of the six fights where I think he was met with significant adversity against southpaws. The two that weren't were the decision wins against Castillo in the first fight, De La Hoya, and Mosley. The three southpaws that have given Jr. some problems have been Reggie Sanders, DeMarcus Corley, and Zab Judah. In FMJ's second fight against Sanders, I thought Floyd looked pretty poor, and really didn't make a significant imprint on any of the the rounds. To be honest, if those performances came from two unknown fighters, I think there would have been a possibility of Sanders getting a draw or even a decision win out of it. The adversity he met against Corley and Judah is well-known, getting caught with a big overhand right hook (the description of that punch sounds really weird... because it came from a weird angle, and is rarely thrown by anyone who gets on television... obviously the right punch at the right time in that fight though obviously) by Corley, and getting blasted by a straight left from Judah through his guard. To be honest, I've always thought that he just looked a little more uncomfortable and little less dynamic against southpaws. Plus, his most devastating weapon as a boxer is his bulletproof defense, which is significantly less effective against southpaws due to the difference in angle that their punches come from, which will be magnified against Manny, because he throws punches from the southpaw stance in angles that are even considered unorthodox for a southpaw.
Significant adversity is a vast exaggeration, yes he got caught and had some trouble early on but he dismantled both later on, Zab even resorted to blatant low blows because of it. He will have problems early on but its just a matter of time before he adjusts.
Good question, Pac took a lot of damage in that fight, his ability to withstand punishment is astonishing. I think Ortiz may be a little tricky early on and he's imo the best southpaw Mayweather has faced. I expect Mayweather to beat him comfortably though.
as a pactard, i agree with this. i really can't hate on floyd for fighting ortiz.
lets just hope it leads to something bigger
This, he really needs to fight Pac next.
How is this a tune up? WBC WW champion and is a top WW (He looked 10x better than when he was at 140). It was a different ORtiz @ 140 too. He'll make more $ with Ortiz too imo. Not long ago people were saying he would never take a fight with Ortiz cause he's too dangerous, young and hungry now all of a sudden he's not all that?
Are we forgetting Khan and Pac getting KO'd? They came back and redeemed themselves, Ortiz is no different he did a lot to shut his critics up. Even the pessimistic pac loving Dan Rafael could find no fault in this match up, if you have a problem with this match up your problem lies somewhere else.
If you would've asked how a Mayweather-Ortiz fight would go a few days before the Berto fight, you'd get more honest answers.
Of course and he proved us wrong, its like saying Khan would've coped against a puncher before Maidana, most were very skeptical about his chin. The doubt in Ortiz was his heart not his skills or w/e, I think he answered that in the Berto fight where he took some vicious shots and kept on moving on like we've never seen him do before. Anyone with a pair of eyes would realize he's much more suited @ 147 than 140, even Roach has been telling him for YEARS, so yes 1 fight is enough to make that call.
Same for Pac, which is why both of them get heat from the media and boxing fans alike.
Did you criticize the Pac-Marquez 3 fight ? If not that's incredibly transparent.
Yeah ww Ortiz barely won against Berto was dropped and hurt several times.
Real animal.
Barely won? I don't you grasp the concept of unanimous decision, it was clear as day.
147 Ortiz displayed more will and determination, Berto is a bigger puncher than Peterson yet Ortiz didn't back down. Ortiz was stupid in moving back against Peterson.
;10669691']Don't be fooled. De La Hoya is just like every other promoter out there. He's gonna play the nice guy with Ortiz, but after that whole Maidana thing you can tell he has no hopes for him. He has high hopes for Khan, not him. Which is exactly why GBP made this fight. They don't think Ortiz will win, but they know this fight is gonna make them alot of money.
????? Have you been paying attention to the fights they are putting up lately, absolutely craps on TR. Even if Ortiz loses his name becomes more marketable especially if he puts on a good showing. Win win situation for him, no shame losing to Mayweather.
Im really mad about this fight cause I cant believe how Cotto was a champion for so long and a Mayweather fight was never made. Ortiz beats Berto in a gun fight in which he got dropped twice, and all the sudden hes Mayweather worthy.
And then some people actually think this is gonna be a good fight. Its really sickening how Mayweather keeps making people think he actually fights threatening opponents.
He fights an old Mosley who hadnt fought in more than a year, but because his last fight was the beatdown of Margarito, everyone thinks it was gonna be a fight.
Now he fights a Victor Ortiz who got stopped at 140 and got dropped against Berto in a fight he only one because of his heart. After Mayweather exposes his lack of skill, he will probably fight another 140 guy coming up in weight instead of Pacquiao.
He's a legit 147 you idiot, he was draining himself to make 140. I'm curious to see how you feel about Pac fighting Mosley and Margarito and now Marquez. Cotto is no longer a 147 pounder and hasn't done anything after losing to pac.
Absolutely, everyone was crying about Shane off a long layoff, it didn't even apply to Floyd when he fought Marquez and now Ortiz. Comes with the territory though. This is a great fight.
I want to see some footage of Ortiz surfing.
Interesting to see if he uses a long or short board.
Might not be too bad.
He said he had a customized short board on ESPN, sounded pretty dope.
Never rated Berto. When Mosley was going to fight him, the bookmakers made Mosley favourite and rightly so.
If Mayweather fights Ortiz and then signs up to fight Pacquiao, fair enough, if he doesn't, it really is a joke and shame on some of you for falling it.
Some of the stuff that Mayweather has been saying such as Ortiz is better than Pacquiao and thats the reason why he took this fight, come on please.:crying:
That was when he came off an impressive KO victory over Margarito. You're the one crying here.
Cotto > Ortiz, yet...
Floyd Vs Ortiz = Major props
Pac Vs Cotto = 0 credit what so ever
that's pretty interesting as well...
0 credit? Cotto is Pac's best WW win.... even though it was at a catch weight and he wasn't coming off impressive wins.
Margarito hasn't done anything relevant post plaster... FACT. He only inflicted a lot of damage to Pac because he outweighed him 15 lbs+. Until he gets a rematch with Cotto or even Martinez and beats any one of them, then I'll favor him. Anyone who has tried to cut weight at a weight you're draining yourself at know how ridiculously arduous and damaging it is when you're fighting, Ortiz should of moved up to 147 a long time ago.
