We've already established that the Pacquiao camp are afraid to fight Martinez. But why did Mayweather also avoid Martinez now?
If the answer is, "because he needed a tune up", then why is this fight going to be PPV? Why will they charge people to watch a tune up? Is it going to be promoted as a tune up or is Ortiz going to be marketed as a challenge for Floyd?
If it IS a challenge for Floyd, why not then choose the BEST fight out there? The biggest challenge for Floyd which would be Martinez? Or is Ortiz a better, bigger risk than Martinez now?
Isn't there a patter developing here from Floyd?
Retirement.
come back from retirement and choose an opponent with no chance, less risk, but can be marketable to maximize revenue.
Go into limbo
Come back and take a considerable challenge, make money.
Then go into retirement once again.
come back from retirement and choose an opponent with no chance, less risk, but can be marketable to maximize revenue.
So basically, within 3 years, Floyd's only would have 3 fights. 2 of them which offer no severe challenge or risk.
Does it not seem like Floyd is scamming the fukk out of fans and the sport just like Pacquiao has?
Floyd nor Manny are not going anywhere near Martinez. But they don't have to.Look at these boards & look at what the casual fan says.Excuses,excuses,excuses.The fans are gonna continue to dish out big bucks to see Manny beat no-hopers & watch Floyd come out of retirement to outdo him while never fighting each other & staying wayyyyyyy clear of Martinez.
Why the Fu*k should Manny or Floyd fight Martinez, next you'll be asking them to fight one of the Klitchko's!!
Martinez is a middlewight, Floyd and Manny are welterwights, why is that so hard for some to understand. He is the one desperately trying to chase Manny and Floyd, so it's up to him to come down in weight if he wants the fight.
SIMPLE!!
Ortiz was chosen because he's going to get schooled.
Floyd going to be be landing at will and picking Ortiz apart.
Sure Ortiz is young and hungry but he ain't in the same league as money.
Floyd is going to be looking fresh and too good for Ortiz from start to finish.
Ortiz is a decent fighter and legitimate Welterweight champion nobody can debate that. However, it's clear they took time to select their opponent and i think Ortiz is going to be an easy night for Mayweather.
Mayweather won't brawl against Ortiz so don't expect to see his Berto heroics, he will box him to death and Ortiz is not good against those kind of fighters.
mayweather is just constantly choosing better opponents then pac to make that lil midget man up. if floyd will once again be considered number 1 p4p then the roidhead will have nothing to lose and perhaps fight mayweather.
Better? Ortiz was Pac sparring partner. Why not fight Pacquiao? Sorry I forgot. Floyd ducked Cotto and Margarito what more Pacquiao who destroyed both. lol!
house rules!!!!...thats why Sergio is gettin snubbed by those 2...but I can't sh!t on Vic dancing with Floyd....its a good scrap imo....Floyd can stop Vic and Vic can stop Floyd ESPECIALLY if Floyd decides to shoot it out with the young bull....so imo its gonna be very interesting....IMO Floyd will stop him...I get the feeling Floyd is out to make a BOXING statement....I think the GREATNESS of Manny and B.Hop has lit something in him...idk man, I like this type of Floyd....Manny or Sergio might be next but then again...Khan is in the "house"...but if I'm right about Floyd...then Manny or Sergio will be next up....:boxing:

Simple. Martinez is not a Golden Boy fighter.
How is this a tune up? WBC WW champion and is a top WW (He looked 10x better than when he was at 140). It was a different ORtiz @ 140 too. He'll make more $ with Ortiz too imo. Not long ago people were saying he would never take a fight with Ortiz cause he's too dangerous, young and hungry now all of a sudden he's not all that?
Are we forgetting Khan and Pac getting KO'd? They came back and redeemed themselves, Ortiz is no different he did a lot to shut his critics up. Even the pessimistic pac loving Dan Rafael could find no fault in this match up, if you have a problem with this match up your problem lies somewhere else.
If you would've asked how a Mayweather-Ortiz fight would go a few days before the Berto fight, you'd get more honest answers.
Of course and he proved us wrong, its like saying Khan would've coped against a puncher before Maidana, most were very skeptical about his chin. The doubt in Ortiz was his heart not his skills or w/e, I think he answered that in the Berto fight where he took some vicious shots and kept on moving on like we've never seen him do before. Anyone with a pair of eyes would realize he's much more suited @ 147 than 140, even Roach has been telling him for YEARS, so yes 1 fight is enough to make that call.
Same for Pac, which is why both of them get heat from the media and boxing fans alike.
Did you criticize the Pac-Marquez 3 fight ? If not that's incredibly transparent.
No, I think Floyd has this one in the bag, the only thing I'm still questioning is Ortiz's heart, now if Ortiz somehow continued to handle adversity the way he did against Berto (And he'll have to do it against Floyd too) then I can honestly say Victor is a solid WW, a good skilled fighter.
He looked stronger, better stamina, even in one fight I can honestly say he's a much better WW than he is a Jr WW. Even Mayweather acknowledges that.
Even if it was all true.
It would still be a farcry from coming close to matching Pac or Mayweather in that division. Is it a good win for Mayweather? Sure, but at this point most of the boxing public is looking for Mayweather to fight the top dogs and retire.

I can see where you are coming from. Ortiz did look better so I'll give you that.
So obvious from only 1 fight at 147?
If you would've asked how a Mayweather-Ortiz fight would go a few days before the Berto fight, you'd get more honest answers.
People overrating Ortiz skills just because he has a FOTY under his belt against what most people thought a protected untested opponent in Berto.

He wouldn't be an underdog against Pacquiao, so really, that doesn't mean a thing. To answer your question, Corrales I think.
Well you are referring about fighting Sergio. And yes he will be a slight favorite against Pacquiao but it's still a great risk. Great accomplishment comess from a great risk. I have not seen that from Floyd.
I think Ortiz like Cotto is a different animal at 147. I don't know, I thought that was obvious...

Only thing Ortiz has going for him is Floyd's lay off.
This is Ortiz-Peterson only ten times worse for Ortiz.

Floyd will never take that challenge. When did the last time Floyd came in as underdog in a fight? He is very calculated on his moves.

It's not a tune up, it'll be somewhat competitive in the beginning (First 3-4 rounds) then Floyd as always will adjust, take over and stop him late in my opinion. Ortiz will put up a good effort. It's a good fight, Floyd should fight Martinez after.
I've always said that Mayweather should forget Pacquiao, it's most likely not gonna happen and FIGHT Martinez. From the start I was saying he should fight Sergio, that fight is so much easier to make too. Floyd vs. Martinez is a great fight, I hope we get it.
Only thing Ortiz has going for him is Floyd's lay off.

Do you think it's fair to expect Floyd to fight a guy like Martinez coming off a layoff of over a year? Let's wait and see what happens after the Ortiz fight.
