He should be fighting Pacquiao. Mayweather has chosen to avoid Pacquiao and chase after Ortiz. Is Ortiz an elite fighter? No. Is Ortiz a great fighter of his generation? Certainly not at this moment in time. Is Ortiz in his prime? No. Does Ortiz's style cause Mayweather problems? Not really. To answer this question, probably not. With maybe another two or three fights at 147 he would be hitting his peak. BUT Is Mayweather in his prime? and also lets point out that whilst Ortiz is "probably not" in his prime he is INFINITELY closer to it than the versions of SSM, Margarito and now JMM that MP will fight. So to sum it up Floyd is fighting a bigger, stronger fighter, ranked behind only himself and MP at his natural weight close to his prime. Wlad and Hopkins turned down similar requests. I would like to see testing in boxing improved, but it has to be done by the commission. What Floyd was offering still left gaping holes to use and 7 days cut of would not have made any difference at all. Unless you think Pacquiao would have been doing his most intense training in the week leading up to the fight.

As soon as he beat Berto and people started talking about him fighting Pac or Mayweather I said I thought he needed a few more fights under his belt before stepping up to that level.
