1st - 10-8 Cotto Even though I thought Clottey had won the round till the KD.
2nd - 10-9 Clottey
3rd - 10-9 Cotto
4th - 10-9 Clottey
5th - 10-9 Clottey
6th - 10-9 Cotto
7th-11th Clottey
12th - 10-9 Cotto
115-112 Clottey
I gave the 4th and 11th to Cotto making it 114-113 Cotto.
I thought the 11th was closer than the 4th but I still gave it to Clottey. He pressed the action & landed the harder punches while Cotto was backing up trying to shoeshine.
I love it too, especially when it's not De La Hoya being called out for a change. He called out a guy he wants to expose, and I think that's awesome. He probably knows Margarito won't fight him, Cotto is going to be in hibernation for a while licking his wounds, and Williams would probably handle him. Berto is a great guy to call out.
Clottey wants Margarito next but he thinks Margarito doesn't want the fight. So he said if he couldn't get Marg than Berto would be next.
Clottey beats him & probably stops him. Berto has some serious lapses in his defense & he couldn't afford to do that against Clottey. David Estrada buzzed him in their fight & gave him all he could handle for a while. Clottey being more durable & solid at this point would be too much but it would be fun while it lasted.
clottey was healthier than margarito(rust+wrist and ankle injury....requiring surgery...) the first time...clottey seriously lacks consistency....
Maybe, but Marg had those injuries before he got in the ring with him. To get an injury during the course of the fight has to be pretty tough & mentally taxing.
I'd love to see Margarito vs Clottey II. There's no way in hell Marg's walking over Clottey in any fight. He didn't do it in the first fight & I still think a healthy Clottey can eek out a decision against him.
Nobody's forgotten it. No excuses, Tony didn't do shit early cuz he couldn't. Paul wouldn't let him. Tony took over the 2nd half but I had Paul takin the 12th to seal it, 115-113. Nobody can deny Williams his shine for that win. He's 1st in line for a shot at Tony now.
Tony's not looking at a Williams or a Clottey rematch. He's looking at $$$$$ for a DLH fight but doesn't have chance in hell of happening. Can't say I don't blame him for it either. He's had a good stretch the last couple of years.
Overtraining or not, i am not making any assumptions, im going to reserve my thoughts until saturday.
Is that you Black Jesus? I think Clottey's gonna stop him.
actually, he admitted on camera that he ducked Margarito. guess it doesnt matter now though.
He turned down a Margarito fight when he was trying to get his confidence back after his Winky loses. He fought Cruz & Estrada I believe in that time frame & said he wasn't ready for a Marg fight. I wouldn't necessarily call that ducking.
You would if it met your agenda.
He had two tough loses against Winky & changed trainers. Would you want a fighter to step into the ring with a fighter like Marg after that? Boxing is also mental & his mental state was not ready for that kind of fire he would go through. But after his fights with Vargas & Collazo it seemed like he got his mental edge back.
Good post Reed! This article shows EXACTLY why negotiations broke down for a Hopkins/Jones rematch & why the rematch probably will never happen. People who actually follow boxing know this wasn't all Jones holding up the fight.
Hopkins is the naturally bigger guy. He started his career off at 175 when Jones was a Jr. Middle or Middleweight. After his first few fights Hopkins in James Toney's words "ate like a model" & shrunk himself down to Middle where he stayed at for years.
TKO for Andrade. It really shoudn't have come down to the last few seconds. This fight might've been stopped by a different ref because Bute got battered for the last minute of the fight without throwing ANYTHING back. Meldrick Taylor was stopped by Chavez & was in FAR better shape than Bute.
Shane Mosley should be the most respected man boxing right now for challenging himself throughout the years. I've always thought that the real reason he didn't fight Mayweather was because he knew DLH wanted to fight him him so he gave way.
dirrell did seem to punch harder then he usually does so you never know.:fing02:
I don't think so but you never know. Dirrell did rock Froch with a counter shot late in their fight & Froch has a good chin. Dirrell should have more KO's but I don't think he sits on his punches as much as he should.
Jones said he bought what at the time was over the counter Creatine. And Hall also tested positive for something. That was the only time Jones ever tested positive for anything. They pulled Creatine off the shelves eventually.
I thought it was Ripped Fuel.
Roy says himself during the Hopkins/Allen 3 fight that he was a Lightheavyweight on fight night and Hopkins didn't gain any weight. Said he knew that going into teh fight, which is why he was so confident. Because he was bigger than everyoen at 160.
Are you forgetting Hopkins was a natural LHW? His pro debut was at LHW & he lost. Dropped down to MW, lived like a Shaolin monk & "ate like a model" according to James Toney so he wouldn't outgrow the division. Hopkins was naturally bigger than Roy who started his pro career at 154.
Hopkins was fresh out of prison when he made his pro debut in 1988. He then took two years off to work on his craft and got connected with a real trainer.
Of course JAMES TONEY said Hopkins ate like a model, anything less than 7 Whoppers with cheese from Burger King and large fries was considered going on a diet to Toney.
Hopkins and Roy were both middleweights at the time. Also I think Bhops body frame is naturally leaner than Jones who went all the way up to heavyweight; I think Jones was always more muscular or able to carry more weight. But that meant nothing when they fought at 160 21 years ago!
Anyways, topic at hand - Jones won CLEARLY, but it wasn't a shut out nor did he dominate. It was a competitive fight with Hopkins finding success late, especially with the overhand right. Looking back, this fight was largely uneventful. Both men fought cautiously neither taking too many chances, but Jones did more to win more rounds. This was a big learning experience for both fighter as neither were in their primes yet.
I hear what you're saying but Hopkins still is/was the bigger man. 6-6'1 frame that melted his body down to make MW. Roy always had good muscular definition but don't confuse that with size. You saw what Hopkins looked like when he finally moved to LHW against Tarver right? A natural LHW which was his natural weight.
Why would one not consider muscle with size? Mike Tyson was like 5'10.
6-6'1 is not a huge frame for MW that's the same size as Taylor and Pavlik for example. Pretty typical.
If Bernard "melted" down to 160 he wouldn't be able to successfully do it for 15 years or whatever it was. Hell, the man weighed as low as 156 a couple times and 157 numerous times. He stayed in shape all year round and lived a healthy lifestyle.
Roy wasn't a natural LHW. Bernard did have to meltdown to make MW. Hopkins lived like monk & was on a strict diet during his MW campaign. It's well documented how he lived. Why do you think he had to pace himself so much in his fights? Making MW wasn't that easy I imagine & as he got older it was even more difficult more than likely. That's why his stamina started suffering as you saw in the Taylor fights. Bernard was a natural LHW my man, that's a fact. He dropped down to 160 to maximize his physical gifts.
Lucas was getting blasted in the mid and late rounds. Garcia was landing the harder punches for the most part that is why is production dropped
Quoted for truth. Garcia's power was severely underrated on this site. That's what kept Matty at bay. He knew he couldn't just walk down Garcia because of the firepower he would take coming in.
Garcia landed a nice right to the body that initiated Matty turning to the ropes. Garcia then flurried & landed a left. Matty dropped before he could take any more damage. Matty didn't even dispute the KD either.
Haters are on denial! Did you even see the fugging BODY PUNCH 2 seconds BEFORE the KD? You people either dont know $h1t about boxing, are blind or in denial.........I think that are all three combined!
That body punch its what dropped Mathysse.
That's what I mentioned a little above your post :boxing:
I agree with Jack on this one. When the judges were being announced in the beginning of the fight & I saw Chuck Giampa's name, I kmew Winky was going to lose a decision. He's the same judge that gave Taylor 115-113 in the second Hopkins fight.I also thought Winky won the first round & the 12th. In the first round he backed Taylor up for most of the round out jabbing the jabber & landing some combos. In the 12th Winky once again backed him up flurried & blocked Taylor's one flurry towards the end.
That was funny as hell!!!! Good upload Bozo. I here at work laughing my ass off at that clip. Benn looked really pissed & Eubank looked like he was trying to trying to ignore him. LOL!!!
