Was he winning dominantly enough to keep it from being a 10-8 Cotto round?
BTW thanks for the red K Dutty.
I wouldn't put it that Clottey was dominating the round. He wasn't. But I had Clottey winning the round. I don't think that a flash knockdown deserves to a 3 point turn around.
You give one point for the knockdown. Then what? Forget Cotto-Clottey for a sec. If the fighter that was winning the round up to that point scores the knockdown it should be a 10-8 round. If the fighter that was losing the round scores the knockdown should it still be a 10-8 round? I don't think so. You would then be awarding him 3 points for the knockdown.
So if you're losing 10-9 and get one point for the knockdown does it become 10-10? 9-9? I can see making it 10-9 to the fighter who scored the KD but can't see it being 10-8.
lol at the idiots with 9-9.........newsflash, ten point must system.
knocking somebody down is an extra point, if you give clottey a draw in that round where he didnt dominate and got knocked down, you basically should put a large caliber bullet through your face......
Nope. If you are winning a round and get dropped or a point deduction, you can still get an even round. Watch boxing to learn more.
OK.....so I'm a man. I admit I'm wrong. I still think it's silly and should be able to be done my way....lol
I also walked away with the feeling the fight was won by Clottey but it certainly was a fair decision.....Carry on fanatics. I'm out.....:boxing:
Because of the 10 point must system, a 9-9 round would only occur when the boxer who would have won the round was penalized a point by the referee.

just google it, there was an article somewhere where loads of officials say theyd almost never have a fighter who got knocked down not losing a round, they give 10-9 if he clearly dominated and just got dropped........a fighter who gets knocked down would basically have to kill the other guy to get a draw in a round, and it would have to be 10-10, not 9-9, ten point must system is only affected by deductions...
Wait. But... but... I made a thread where I said it was my opinion that it should be a 9-9 round and therefore I owned some people.
This thread is irrelevant. Clottey got knocked down, by a jab (lol,) and lost the round, which was fairly close until that point, 10-8. Point blank. So all of you people that scored it 114-113 for Clottey using incorrect scoring, can now change your cards in favor of Cotto.

the ten point must is just broken by deductions.......a round you win but get a point deducted for fouls is the only way there could be a 9-9.
a knockdown is an extra point, and if clottey is barely wining the round, he doesnt deserve a draw in a round where he gets put on his butt, simple as that.......the most commom thing judges do when someone wins a round but gets knockdowned is to have them losing 10-9 instead of 10-8, but most reckon the fighter who got dropped should have dominated the round, not land a jab more.......

It was a close first round that I would have gave to Clottey if it weren't for the knockdown, and if I'm correct I believe its an automatic 10-8 round for Cotto because of the knockdown its not a 9-9 round.

just giving it back where it came from
you're welcome
Clottey was winning the round IMO until the knock down.

Bullshit....If both fighters go down you can't score it with a 10....same can be said in a situation like this. 10 point must is constantly misinterpeted.

Awarding Points
For each round, judges determine the score using the ten-point must system. This means that (usually) the winner of the round gets ten points, and the loser gets nine points. There are exceptions to this rule. For example, when a fighter is knocked down, that fighter loses a point. So if the fighter that was knocked down loses the round the score would be 10 to 8 for that round. If the fighter that was knocked down wins the round (which is rare) the score would be 9 to 9. If a fighter is knocked down twice, the score would normally be 10 to 7 for the round. If three knockdowns occur you should have a 10 to 6 round, etc. Also, it is possible for a judge to score a round as a tie, which is exceedingly rare. In this case the score for the round would be 10-10.
If each fighter scores a knockdown, the knockdowns effectively cancel each other out and the score returns to 10 points for the winner and 9 points for the loser of the round.
I won't post the source because it came from another site, but I had to put these two Phuckholes and blast for giving me red K without doing their research.
This is ofcourse in reference to Cotto Clottey rd 1
where I made it known that I scored it 9-9 because Clottely IMO was winning the round up until the last couple secs in which he was knocked down.

Exactly. Lol at them altering the rules to give Clottey the win. Show me a judge that didn't score a round 10-8 that was this close, when there was a knockdown.
thats why you gotta hit the mute button those fockers(all of them) were balls deep on both fighters it was ridiculous
nope no mute, sounds of punches are a good thing to hear......just learn to ignore the commentary..............
where the hell were you guys when I was getting all that flack for scoring rd 1 9-9?
in any case, that's how i scored it and I had the same exact score 114-113 Clottey
Most of these shitheads and many real judges just don't score 9-9 rounds properly IMO. I could see if Clottey was winning the round and was seriously hurt by the KD but a flash KD at the end of the round? He doesn't deserve to lose the entire round that he did some nice work in because of that....and Cotto should certainly get his point for the KD.....fair is fair. It was the perfect example of a 9-9 round.

some people need to form they own criteria...this whole shit is just because steward was licking clotteys balls...it was a close round, cotto was landing more in numbers even if he wasnt as accurate nor as flashy......go watch the fight again without assuming clottey is landing better punches just because they look explosive, its the effect they give that makes em good puches, and if none of them do any real effect, you have to go to numbers.
