I don't fault Mayweather fighting Victor Ortiz after Floyd's been inactive for 16 months, especially considering Victor is currently the #2 ranked WW behind Pac. But it got me thinking how much worse the WW division is today than it was just 4 years ago. Then you had better than todays' versions of Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito, Zab Judah, Luis Collazo, Carlos Quintana, Joshua Clottey, Carlos Baldomir, Ricky Hatton and I feel like I'm forgetting someone. Hard to see Ortiz, 9 months off of a draw with fringe contender Lamont Peterson and just over 2 years from quitting against Marcos Maidana, both at 140 making it to the top of the 2007 crowd, at least for me..

Wladimir Klitschko's last fight was on September 11th of last year, against Sam Peter. He was scheduled to fight Chisora last month, but pulled out with a torn abdominal. In April, he's honoring that commitment, but Haye's issued him an ultimatum to fight him on July 2, or else he will never fight him. So Haye's expecting a 35 year old Wlad, with almost 15 years as a pro, to take possibly the biggest fight of his career, after almost a year of inactivity. And somehow Wlad is ducking him for not agreeing? Am I missing something? Keep in mind Wlad had 3 fights in 2008 and would've had 3 fights in 2010 without the injury. He only had one fight in 2009, in large part due to Haye, who pushed a fight all the way back to late June and then pulled out. Now he appears to be playing the same game and Wlad's not having it.

With the Bush tax cuts set to expire in January, taxes will increase for everyone for next year: SINGLE Taxable income from 0 to 8,500 will be taxed at 15% (up from 10%) from 8,500 to 34,550 stay at 15% from 34,550 to 83,700 will be taxed at 28% (up from 25%) from 83,700 to 174,650 will be taxed at 31% (up from 28%) from 174,650 to 379,650 will be taxed at 36% (up from 33%) from 379,650 and up will be taxed at 39.6% (up from 36%) Since he is set to make from 50 to 60 million fighting Pac, he will pay over 2 million dollars more in taxes (closer to 2.5 million more.) That's an expensive vacation.

Since I am precluded from posting in the other thread, the best offense in boxing doesn't have 5 stoppages in his 14 fights above 130 pounds. Sorry. Excellent accuracy and +/- % (by virtue of perhaps the best defense in boxing in combination with the aforementioned.) But best offense? No, just no.

Glad to see the fight finally signed, but shouldn't Shane be taking a tuneup? Seeing as how he hasn't fought in over a year, which will be 16 months by the time of the fight.

A freakishly tall, rangy volume puncher in Funeka is just too much for the short, slicker, faster Guzman tonight. Personally, I think Mayweather Williams would look much the same.

After 8 rounds, Lederman had Diaz up, 77-75, after giving him the 8th round. One round later, he has Malignaggi up by a round, making me wonder how that was possible without deductions or knockdowns. So I look at his scorecard after the 9th, and he'd changed the 8th round, giving it to Paulie. Who knows why, but I thought it a bit strange.

Looks like the 11th round was key in this fight. Just about all of the guys who thought Cotto won (usually 114-113,) gave him the 11th round, and vice versa. Not sure how Judge McKaie scored the 11th, but I'd be willing to bet it was for Cotto. So people saying that it wouldn't have mattered if Clottey finished up the last two rounds stronger, just might be wrong.

My bud Mr. Pink just pointed out that only Hatton and Corrales were in the top 10 at the time Floyd beat them. Pac on the other hand, has Hatton, JMM, Morales and Barrera. Floyd is catching up if/when he beats JMM, but since he's making him jump up two weight classes to do it, mehhhh.

I know his fight night weight is listed at 147. But, in the second Pac/Hatton 24/7 (I think it was the second,) Roach said he noticed the fresh IV marks on DLH's arm, indicating that he was very recently hydrated, and told Pac to jump on him early, as it takes time for that water to rehydrate the muscles. Anyway, Oscar looked very good at 150, 7 months prior, and probably would've looked a hell of a lot better at 147 had he not tried to come in lighter than Pac, perhaps trying to be faster. Either that or he figured he wouldn't get any credit if he came in 12 lbs heavier than Pac fight night, and he was about due to retire anyway, so why not challenge himself more in his final fight. LOL edit weigh.

After demolishing Diaz, DLH and Hatton in a row, I think Pac would much rather have an exciting fight with Cotto, win or lose, than a possible snoozefest with Floyd. That way he keeps improving his marketability to the point when the Floyd fight happens, he'll make tons more money.

Wlad used to be a much more exciting fighter before Steward. Problem is, he left himself too vulnerable like he did in the Sanders fight. He didn't jab nearly as much and threw a lot more bombs, which led him to gas late in fights like the Purrity one. My guess is, he would've been KO'd a couple of more times and probably retired by now. As it is, even though he's already 33, he shows no signs of slowing down (like his older brother) and will probably be a top fighter for at least 3 more years. I just can't see how he would've lasted that long without Steward in his corner.

Oscar was 34, had only one fight in the previous 2 1/2 years and was 9 years past his peak at #1 p4p. He knew he needed some advantages against Floyd to stand any kind of chance. So he got the ring, gloves etc that he wanted, because he was the draw and called the shots. The weight gave Floyd a chance to fight a shadow of his former self for a title in a 5th weight class, so it was good for both guys, but more of an advantage for Oscar in the ring. My question is: Why does Floyd, who was #1 p4p last year, who claims to be the greatest boxer to ever lace up a pair of gloves (and has quite a few people believing it) need such a huge advantage in fighting a past it FW that will most certainly add to his resume? (no matter how many people call it a meaningless "tune up")

I keep hearing this is a tuneup fight for Floyd. But how is someone of JMM's stature being used as a tuneup? And what good does it do to fight a guy that fought at 130 last year, has only two fights at 135 and has never even fought at 140 in his life, at WW? Makes ZERO sense to me. If he's just trying to make money, he should know that most people pay to watch him lose. Fighting a guy at a weight he has no chance of beating Floyd, who in the hell is going to pay to watch that?

Southpaws are extremely vulnerable to the left hook to the body, which ends up in the kidney area. I think Williams would outwork Cotto most of the fight, as long as it lasts, and if it goes past about 8 or 9, he has a chance to stop Miguel on an accumulation of punches, or outwork him to a decision. But Cotto has one seriously good left hook to the body. Paul's chin has shown itself to be pretty solid so far. But what about his body? And there's no way to build up muscle over the kidney area.

Floyd is asking JMM to jump up two weight classes to fight him. JMM, who will be 36 if they fight, a pro for 16 years, a guy who was fighting at 130 last year. Floyd says he can't make 140 anymore. Well guess what? That makes him a WW. Why not fight the best WW in the world? Especially when you call yourself the best fighter that ever lived. All he would need is a tune up fight against a tall WW. Maybe he could fight Demetrius Hopkins at 147?

Than he did against Quintana in the first fight. So I don't think it will be as hard as everyone thinks for him to still make WW.

Cotto was what? 5 or 6 before losing to Margarito? Then Tony takes his spot after beating him (using possibly illegal means.) Now Mosley takes Tony's spot (a Tony without the plaster wraps.) Cotto has a recent win over Mosley, but is nowhere to be seen on the major lists. Something seems wrong with this.

Maybe Joe Calzaghe is better than I thought.

Jan 24 2004, Gatti gets a shot at a vacant belt at 140 despite being 7-5 in his last dozen fights. He beats a guy that never won a title in his career, even still at 38. May 22 2004 Floyd fights Corley in the first of two eliminator bouts necessary to get a shot at Gatti. Coincidence? Judging by him waiting for Judah to lose to a journeyman before facing Zab, then jumping on Baldomir right after (before he loses his belt and Floyd would be a laughing stock for fighting him,) I think not.

Everyone was expecting DLH to weigh at least 160 FN and be much bigger and stronger than Pac. Did anyone see Pac coming in heavier than DLH and looking stronger in the fight?

Breland was a 6'2", hard hitting, agile WW with a great jab and excellent boxing ability. Had his chin been a bit better, he might've been almost unbeatable. How do you think he would've matched up with Paul Williams?
