If guy that didn't know the 10-6 thing was that inexperienced that he didn't know how to score a 3 knockdown round, how can you really trust his scorecard for the rest of the fight.
if he didn't know he could score a round 10-6, you can't trust him to interpret the rest of the fight the right way, either.
Why is Cotto ranked No.1 at Middleweight over Gennady Golovkin just because he beat Sergio Martinez.
Anybody knows that Golovkin could have done the same thing, but Martinez was too scared to get in the ring with him. Also, it is quite obvious that Golovkin would destroy Cotto…well at least that is what I think.
But the main reason for saying this is that Cotto is not even willing to defend his title at 160 pounds against other top middleweights. How can he call himself a champion when he hasn't even won a fight at that division.
Because Cotto beat Serg, who beat Kelly Pavlik (even if Pavlik was hitting the bottle.) Pavlik took the title from Jermain Taylor (a war.) Taylor, took it from B-hop (which I'd guess he'll put on his epitath.) Hopkins became THE Middleweight Champ by beating Felix Trinidad(a fight)filing the vacancy Toney made, I guess.
And that's how boxing lineage works.
That motherf*cker defies all logic. He's the only guy I can think of in the history of boxing who managed to be the biggest star in the sport without being exciting.
The Baldomir fight did that. The ringwalk, the not trading with Baldomir, the larry merchant interview after. Oscar gave floyd his biggest payday, but Baldomir made floyd, cuz he made so many people wish he would lose.
Let's say Frazier "miraculously survived" the first half of the fight Scott.
Please explain for all of us exactly HOW Frazier would pose any form of problem for Tyson in the hypothetical second half of the fight?
It's called Joe Frazier's Left hook
Don't tell me Tyson gasses against Frazier :lol1:
This fight isn't going more than 30 seconds.
Frazier hurts Mike and Mike stays the course, just like when Bruno hurt him and everyone after.
Mike hurts Frazier and Frazier stays the course ect.
If you want to know what would happen to Joe, watch Tyson vs Marvis Frazier.
Marvis wears the label of "not living up to his father". But in reality, there was very little difference. The division changed.
Aaron Pryor jr. has the will, heart, hunger Aaron Pryor had when he was fighting. Pryor is lucky he wasn't fighting at 168 in the 2010s.
Frazier's kids will never be able to say they had dad's hunger to win the title, because he was World Heavyweight Champ, because his fights with Ali were the highest grossing in 50 years after inflation.
Marvis Frazier isn't Smokin' Joe Frazier.
There was a version of Ali who was much better (Holmes) and a "Frazier 5.0" (Tyson). He wouldn't have a hope in the 80's.
Frazier wouldn't survive the sturdy solid competition posed by guys like Smith, Witherspoon etc, let alone Holmes, let alone Tyson.
Bonecrusher Smith makes easy work of Prime Joe.
Tim Witherspoon makes easy work of Prime Joe.
That's not worth arguing.
Not true, like your Pryor story but reversed, Frazier's kids could very well have the same heart and will as their father did.
That was sarcasm.
Comparing Pryor's kid to Hawk is insanity.
jr. isn't the fighter Hawk was because he was raised in the good life after Hawk won the titles and got all the good tv time; That's exactly what I was saying about Marvis. Marvis was born with silk pajamas, daddy earned um for him.
Joe Frazier was a different breed of man to his son. Same with Pryor and his.
And he wasn't ****ing featherfisted
According to Boxrec. That line tells you everything you need to know about that chump.
All boxrec told me was dude has 10 KOs in 12 victories, and that he's the biggest fighter since Valuev retired.
After reading that, it'll probably be Hayden driving Wlad to the ER for stomach pains.
Damn, I never knew Naseem Hamed ducked Marquez. But I can see why. JMM would have been a horrible match up for Prince.
Yeah, Steward mentioned telling hamed to avoid him on HBO a couple of times.
Why people think Sergio was some slickster in his prime is beyond me. The BEST Sergio is when he fought who? Pavlik? You realize that Pavlik is much slower than Cotto because of his size and is less skilled than Cotto, because Cotto is the much better technical boxer. Pavlik landed 45% of power punches on Sergio, that is NOTHING like Roy Jones, nothing. Martinez has always had sh*t defense and got hit ALL THE TIME because his hands were down. People come in here as fans of Martinez because he is in great fights, fun to watch fights.
Guess what? If Martinez was slick his fights would be boring like Floyd and Roy, but they aren't because he gets hit a lot and he wants to hit a guy. Cotto beats the sh*t out of Martinez any day of the week and twice on Sunday at any time in their careers.
My exact language was Martinez was a "pretty good" fighter. Roy Jones at his best was an all-time great.
Martinez did try to imitate Roy in the ring, any one of his fights after he reached the top show that. He wasn't the best at it, because he just didn't have Prime Roy's reflexes, ever.
Martinez did a "pretty good" Roy Jones impression.
Martinez didn't have legs when he fought Cotto. He moved around like he was boxing with boots on.
Martinez vs. Cotto would've been fun if Martinez had his legs. I've got nothing but love for Cotto, he beat Martinez and always comes to fight. Both guys are true Champs, both guys fought with a lot of courage, and never took a nickel from me they didn't earn.
I think Cotto beats all of them at middleweight NOW, in the way I think he beats Basilio and Fullmer now, in the same way he beats Carlos Monzon now, in the way he beats Marvin Hagler now...
Cotto's all heart, but Sergio when he was at his best, which was
"pretty good," resembled an argentine Roy Jones. Hands all low, avoiding punches purely with foot movement and a little bending at the waist.
That, and he had a good chin with power and a showed lot of heart when he fought Cintron, Williams, Pavlik, Jr. Murray even Cotto.
Too much power from all of the listed fighters. Everyone of them get Cotto out of there by the middle rounds.
I'd personally like to see the Pavlik that beat taylor the first time fight GGG; That would've been fun TV. I'd favor GGG.
Serg was a Pretty Good Middleweight Champ, not quite great. His wins over Pavlik, Williams and Jr. are why. It wasn't his fault Pavlik was an alcoholic during their fight. He still took the fight back from Pavlik in the later rounds after he looked like he was slowing down. He completely devoted himself to that overhand left he stopped Punisher with. He frustrated Jr. for 11 rounds and took his best shots and got up.
Serg said he ain't Carlos Monzon, he knows it and so does everybody else. But he was still a pretty good champ, and I think his best would be a toss up with GGG that just stopped Rubio.
The last good(above decent) boxer Bernard beat was in 2011 and before that it was in 2008 against Pavlik who had to GO UP 10+ pounds. But he a legend doe.
Please no Roy Jones. We all knew he was a former shell of himself.
Pavlik had the Taylor rematch at 168. It wasn't his first fight that far north of 160, and the taylor was still very live.
After the the decision was read (a draw) Jim Lampley kept saying Shane Mosley won. Lampley called the decision an injustice.
What did you think about the verdict?
Shane Mosley vs. Sergio Mora 18.09... by begemotya85
I think Lampley knew what he was doing. He was moving the product, validating a future mosley-pacquiao match up. Kinda like all the stuff he was saying about Floyd on the fight game. Floyd being who he is and not being on HBO had a lot to do with it. Lampley has his masters like everyone else.
And the fight was ****.
Pascal has better power than his record lets on. I expected to see him make Bute do the Andrade shuffle when they fought, it's just this damn obsession he has with fighting like Roy (Roy being his trainer doesn't help)
Pascal has killer instinct, but Roy didn't get the KO over Griffin fighting like Roy, he went Sonny Liston on Griffin like there was no tomorrow
Pascal should've tried focusing on another style earlier in his career, it probably would have got him a bit more success. But trying to mimmick Roy did get him to a World title, so what do I know
