Yes there's a reason: He's black, a loudmouth and undefeated. Any of these separate features would by itself make people want to see Floyd lose a fight, so you can only imagine the impact of three put together. Has any black fighter EVER retired and finished his career undefeated? No. What about letting a black guy, who also happens to be an huge trash talker retire undefeated? Ask the Merchants of this world what they think about it off camera :boxing: They are not used to it, they are used to see all our greats have boxing retire them instead of them retire from boxing, they desire no changes to this. Once Floyd loses his 0 and i'm sure he will eventually as he gets older, you will see the Mayweather train completely derail, real fans disappointed how he failed to manage an extremely successful career after all he went tru, pretend fans grabbing on to whoever is undefeated at the time nuts. It's all good though, just don't ask me to like guys like Calzaghe or Marciano. Hope you understand.
If Duran is strong because of that, then Pacquiao is the Hulk. Pacquiao started at 106 and has fought all the way up to 147. You also have Roy Jones starting at 160 and fighting all the way up to Heavyweight. De La Hoya's debut was at 133 and he has fought as heavy as Middleweight. Floyd started at 130 and has fought as heavy as 154, Mosley started at 135 and has been champ at 154 also. There are a lot fighters who are "strong" with this logic.
Mosley was the champ at 154? Anyway if Duran fought in today's era there was more than 50% chance he would be the best in this era taking nothing away from floyd, pac and company,,,
Name 1 future HOF fighter Joe faced in their prime?
This pretty much ends the thread. I haven't read but i would bet they will ignore that to avoid looking stupid.
hey atleast terrell owens played against the best didnt make up an excuse not to play against them
10% of the population, 90% of the final 4 that's all i have to way wigga.
on a second thought boxing is NOT a team sport. Floyd for president!:boxing:
You're an idiot, SSM isn't even an ATG
But Calzaghe is? WTF? hahahahahaha Of course he is, but Floyd is the best to lace them up this era. Simple as that.
Actually: http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?cat=boxer&human_id=31593 I don't see anything special about Lacy in his resume and to be honest i didn't know who he was until Calzaghe fans started saying he was a good fighter (after Zaghe beat him up of course) to hype the Zaghe up. I can see he has never beaten noone undefeated, fact and that he's never was a champion, simply a belt holder. At best a Mayorga quality fighter imo.
I'm gonna be honest with you brits, apart from Lennox Lewis there were never a great fighter out of the Islands, i'm sorry. Eubanks, Calzaghe, Hatton, even my man David Haye are all glorified B class fighters who can only win vs poor or fading opposition. I think you know this too and not need to admit it. Well what can you say, it's a small place. You do a good job keeping the illusion on so many fan's hearts by coming by only once in a while for that fight you know you're gonna win "because your opponent can't really fight 12 rounds". Apart from those situations there's nothing else. There's one special Island though, Puerto Rico. The British Islands are not it!!!!
BTW i will still be rooting for Hatton and Haye in the future but oh well...
The boards are blowing up with this like suspected, but I'm still mainly concerned with the fight tonight.
the fight's tonight?! :lol1: There's only one... Mayweather :D
As a hatton fan i feel disgusted and let down because hatton boxed like an amateur. After all the talk of how improved he was and a 12 week training camp with a fantastic trainer, he goes charging in and used no boxing intelligence what so ever. 25,000 brits travelled in the recession and that is how hatton re-pays us! what is the point in learning new things if your not going to use them? My congratulations go to the pacman, and id advise hatton to hang them up right now. There are top line boxers out there who have more than 2 losses, but hatton has had 3 major fights, won 1 of them against kostya and got hammered in the other 2. definatly the end of the road and a sad way to bow out.
The real problem were those 40+ fights where hatton got no real valuable experience whatsoever. You can't fight bums and mandatories your whole career and expect to be able to beat prime p4p fighters, who won't fade in the later rounds, no way. The best he could have done was a Calzaghe like career where he'd hold on a little longer in europe taking mandatories and still with his egg intact and with a 45-0 record and the support of everyone and their mothers, finally travel to the US to take someone like Floyd Mayweather, 32 years of age, undefeated but coming out of a 2 year layoff. Ricky could have probably won that fight fighting the same way he did in 07, which he would having not suffered any of the mental and physical wear and tear of fighting tough fights and retired then with a perfect 46-0 record. I'm sure he'd be considered an ATG, we are talking about the same Ricky Hatton who got outclassed for 2 rounds vs Pacquiao, bare to mind, an ATG! Comes to show how a few details can redefine a fighter completely, and his legacy.
Oscar was close to the same size as Floyd.
Floyd is forcing an age 36 boxer who's fought below 130 until well into his 30s to move up two weight divisions to fight him.
If Floyd is so small, why didn't he move down to 135 to face JMM? For your information, JMM can still make 130 if he wants to, he only moved up to 135 to seek a fight with Pacquiao.
And yes, perhaps Floyd should fight PWill, because it would be the only time in his entire career he wouldn't have a reach advantage with his 26" arms. A real ATG like Duran fought the taller, longer Hearns.
Bold part is bullshit. The rest of this isn't any better. But hey what to expect really lol...
How about it. Most had Floyd pegged for this mythical title before last night. Has Manny surpassed him?
I'm a Floyd but and Pacquiao fan. Pacquiao is the man now. Floyd, in his prime, skillwise was a monster but Pacquiao earned the fighter of the decade by making history yesterday.
Adamek has a great chin, but then again so did Fragomeni, and as he showed, there's only so many bombs you can take before you start to crack. Haye has the speed/power advantage and i think a late stoppage would be on the cards for Haye.
Yep pretty much. And it's not like Adamek has a great defense, he lost to Dawson on points having an KD advantage. And it wasn't even close. I say Haye would win, at Cruiser and Heavyweight.
ROIDSLEY, who ADMITTED taking roids, is the last out of all people to have someone send to jail for trying to cheat against him. This is the same guy that took performance enhancing drugs and had a huge unfair advantage in a fight. Tony was caught because his cunt of a trainer tried something new to make his fighter gain a dangerous advantage also.(and before you run your mouth, ROIDSLEY HIMSELF said that Margarito himself should not be blamed for this. There it is, the man you believe told the truth about his cheating is agreeing with me.)
hahahahahah this is another IQ = 89 guy. You are totally bias. Margarito cheated. Mosley DIND'T. The roids he tooks made him lose vs winky and forrest later on so it hurt him on the long run.
I'm a Mayweather fan. But at the end of the day I want him to fight Mosley. I think he can win the fight and also prove to the critics that he is willing to fight the best at WW. Floyd would be the draw in the fight no doubt but due to the circumstances Mosley would get a lot of support and more people would tune in due to the fact many feel Mosley has what it takes to beat Floyd.
after the fight: "lol you call mosley, a 38 year old with 5 losses the best?":gives:
Floyd Mayweather doesn't have to justify anything to you. The boxing world needs him, he doesn't need the boxing world or it's critics. People want to see him regardless. They want to see him lose of course and he sells that product beautifully! It's genius of Floyd if you think about it.
Sure you can do it too fraud jr. but you wont get respect for it.
However when mentioning Oscar's career no one forgets Pacquiao or Mosley as some of the best he faced. Hypocrites.
...He could've been the P4P #1, and posibly even the "Greatest of All Time" if only it hadn't been for:
- Guinness
- Luis Collazo nearly beating his ass in his American debut.
- Jose Luis Castillo being a corpse by the time Hatton got his hands on him.
- Joe Cortez working in cahoots with Floyd Mayweather Jr to screw him.
- Billy Graham dropping the ball in the Mayweather fight.
-Mayweather Sr's stops off at "Taco Bell" before training sessions.
-Roger Mayweather infiltrating his camp like "Solid Snake" and gathering notes for the Pacquiao camp.
- Lee Beard not actually having a beard.
- His only fan being a fat retard born with water on the brain.
:(
:lol1:
IMO Calzaghe had less talent than Hatton in raw but made much better use of it. It comes to show how far away from warriors these guys and their fans are. What happened to actually being the best, not just appearing like you are and then run? Makes me sick one of them got away. They will even make some movies about him (that's when i'm throwing up). Pro boxing is no sport! K1, Japan based MMA, those are combat sports. They have the warrior spirit, that's something you can't buy or implant. If your DNA has coward written on it, if you feel nervous for things u dare not to talk about, you are a coward and that british boy calzaghe is one."peeleft:"peeleft:
What American fighter really gets support over there? I dunno but from what i've seen the American fighters don't seem to get the same support as the Mexicans, English etc.
Maybe because most of the big fights happen over there? I went over to Las Vegas for Hatton vs Floyd and there really wasn't many Floyd fans at all, alot of the Americans we were watching it with (Didn't have tickets) were even on Rickys side.
Also if Manny fights Floyd who will the Americans support? I'm English but i just love how Floyd fights but i also love Manny so am torn between the two. I really hate Mayweather when he's hyping fights but i like to look past it and see the hard work he has put in and how well he's mastered the art.
For me: Dawson, Kirkland, Pavlik, Ward, Williams. Floyd should be retired and is there to under perform and eventually lose.
Thats a pretty dang good commercial from Nintendo.
I wish Pauli was a better fighter. Boxing needs guys like him, really does, him, Judah, Mayweather all those shit talkers, boxing needs these guys
It would depend on who I was hitting. If it was Joe Calzaghe I would wind up some big blows while he was out.
If you did that Rick James would have come out of nowhere and slap you right in the face! "We slappers stay together, you hit one you hit us all! :P"
This article says all what to say what?
I dont get it.
Floyd has been callin out Shane for years...and shane ducked him...at 135 and most recent...with the toothache fiasco.
Shane that following friday on fnf said hed fight Margarito....its funny how his tooth pains and his needs for a vacay went away after Floyd was in talks with Oscar.
Shane is just looking for a pyaday...
No Floyd is not fighting you after a 2 year layoff....hed be dumb too...
I always thought u would want the guy your facing to be tip top condition....not rusty as hell....
Mayweather didnt ASK Hatton shit.....Hatton wanted Mayweathers belt....
The WBC Lineal WW Title.
We can equally say Pac made Oscar drop down to 147 after 12 years from not making the weight.
This article doesnt go hard 2501.
they hate him, they will write allot lol.
I was thinking about this with regards to the comparison with Henry Armstrong as well as the many other little Men that challenged bigger competition.
Today, Pac has his own personal trainer/nutritionist guru. Everything is mapped out to increase the evolution of Manny Pacquiao. He has not only been able to increase muscle size, but he is seemingly stronger, more powerful, and maybe even faster and has great stamina despite moving up many divisions in quick time at his current age.
However, during Armstrong's time, did he really have such advantages?
The quality of Protein Powders; Vitamins; Supplements; Science backing to understand nutrition and training made specific to the athlete...
Of course, there are many top athletes in the sport that have such advantages so the elite guys may balance out...
But how does it compare?
Does it balance out or is there an advantage for one of them.
Note: Not discounting skills since Skill is also a big factor in how far Manny got. Hatton moved up one division and struggled because his skills weren't up to par to enable him to be successful in the next division; he relied more on brute strength and bullying opponents. Manny however, technically, got better with time and that is something different.
And what about competition and skill of fighters in the division for time comparison.
I think Pacquiao is not only comparable to Henry but he may have surpassed him. While it is true what you said about the nutrition science being what we all know it is today, Pacquiao's opponents also benefit from that same advantages whereas Herny's opponents had a much wider range of physical preparations. Some were fit, some were not, some were smokers and some even had alcohol problems. A great comparison would be soccer, would Pele, regarded as the best ever, scored 1000 goals in today's soccer, which is played at sprint speeds and the pressure is IMMENSE? I don't think he would have scored 1000 goals in today's soccer. Same goes for Henry. So your narrative should really be applied to Henry Armstrong, not Pacquiao because if anything, Pacquiao has it harder, much harder than anyone in the past.
 i highly doubt Dawson is way better than Johnson and Jones, considering Johnson beat Dawson and got screwed.
Listen here idiot: Dawson beat Johnson in a close decision. He beat Johnson WAY CLEAR THAN CALZAGHE BEAT HOPKINS if you want a comparison. Dawson will not waste time on these fighters who won't improve his record (but will improve his skills and experience allot which is a good thing). He will go for Froch next. Only the best have the right to be looked at as the best.
From what I saw right now this man would get outclassed by Hopkins and even Calzaghe. The guy dissapointed me big time.
He didn't look too good tonight i was also a bit disappointed. For a 26 year old he's WAY too economical... He may be hiding stamina problems that's why he fights in spurts.. At 26 you aren't supposed to fight in Spurts. I haven't seen too many fights of Dawson but if he won vs Adamek he must have been more active in that fight. Maybe that was respect for Tarver's left... I don't know, too soon to tell for me at least. His defense is phenomenal though.
I'd favor him vs Calzaghe and Bernard at this point because one's a fake ass one trick Poney (zaghe for clarity) and the other one is too old for pro boxing. Dawson would never let Zaghe off the hook after the mandatory 1st round KD and would Ricky Hatton him out of there. Bernard is too old and can't fight 12 rounds anymore really.
UFC 100 will destroy Mayweather-Marquez. The Mayweather fight isnt even that big a deal to me. I mean, im glad Mayweather is back but i only really wanna watch Mayweather fight when he is fighting another HUGE name... which Marquez isnt
hahahah the p4p #2 isn't an huge name? why don't u guys be honest and say what u really want, see mayweather lose. u don't really care who he fights as long as it's a much bigger guy.
Ali, then Mayweather, because he was black and in that time, more people would have wanted to see him lose. Mayweather would be alot more hated :haha:
very little has changed... but yeah there's definitely a parallel between Ali and Floyd and their personalities.
