I seem to remember him being called the tyson of the heavyweights with his god-like left hook
How come hes been garbage since calzaghe? Did joe knock a few brain cells/damage his confidence or something?
I don't see anything special about Lacy in his resume and to be honest i didn't know who he was until Calzaghe fans started saying he was a good fighter (after Zaghe beat him up of course) to hype the Zaghe up.
Total b*llshit. Other than his record (including four title defences) most UK fans knew little about Lacy, except that he had something of a rep but all the Lacy hype - including the 'next Tyson' thing - came from the US. The US boxing establishment was genuinely shocked by that fight; some of the brighter pundits thought Lacy might lose, but none that he would lose in the way he did.
Actually: http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?cat=boxer&human_id=31593 I don't see anything special about Lacy in his resume and to be honest i didn't know who he was until Calzaghe fans started saying he was a good fighter (after Zaghe beat him up of course) to hype the Zaghe up. I can see he has never beaten noone undefeated, fact and that he's never was a champion, simply a belt holder. At best a Mayorga quality fighter imo.
I totally agree with the game plan of Lacy being self confident. Calzaghe absolutely destroyed his self-confidence and its all down hill since there.
Think the post above has hit the nail on the head about Froch aswell. If Taylor had won that fight Froch would have been on a downwards spiral from there. Glad Froch won though
It's not that Lacy was 'over-rated' so much as that a huge part of his game depended on self-confidence - which Calzaghe totally destroyed. Lacy needed to believe he was the best to fight anything like the best, and Calzaghe just ripped that from him. Froch is another fighter who is much the same IMHO, he'll be the very devil to beat until he does get beaten, but once he loses (except maybe a very close fight against absolutely top-class opposition) I doubt he'll ever recover.
That said, my money is on Lacy for the RJJ fight. I'll think he'll win that against a man now totally shot, get another shot a SMW belt, and get comfortably beaten by Kessler, Froch, or Bute. Then it's time to retire.
He has gone right underneath downhill since he got beat every round, every minute for 12 rounds against Joe C, It would have been better for his career if he got KO cold like Hatton in a round or two.
confidence, or rather, lack of it. He never had as much of it after Joe schooled him. Probably believed his own hype then had a huge wake up call. Didnt have the champion mentality to recover from it
