this is exactly why a pacman-floyd fight makes so much sense, it will determine who is the greatest fighter of this era
Even if Pac lost to Floyd he could still be considered the FOTD if Floyd doesn't step up and take on a few top welters. Manny has beaten better opposisiotion, in my opinion, and has shown a willingness to take chances and tough fights that it seems like Floyd has avoided. Its all a matter of opinion, but there is more to take into consideration than just a head to head match up.
probably this last decade , with all the others guys getting old midway through the decade , probably floyd is the best technically.
just on technique , it's probably floyd. i can't think of other guys better without taking into account physical skills such as strength , handspeed , punching power , stamina , etc.
floyd really benefited coming from a boxing family. i think floyd sr. is a shit trainer but he knows boxing enough to teach his son.
Right, this is the reason why mayweather is rated as the best by some, he hasnt got the best resume, we all know that, its his skills and the fact he dominates the majority of his opponents, often going through entire fights and hardly being touched by the opponent.
If you consider a boxers skill level and dedication to the sport in your best of the decade, this is where I think mayweather has the edge over pacquaio. However pacquaio has the edge in other areas, such as willingness to take risks, probably best wins on resume and moving up in weight.
Hatton was exposed before fighting Mayweather. The fact Mayweather picked Hatton over Cotto or Margarito at the time was weak. But Paq's smaller then Floyd and he still took out Ricky more decisively. All in all a win over Ricky seems to be highly over-rated.
First of all, people have been dying to see mayweather hatton for YEARS, it was easily one of the most anticipated fights ever on this forum was being discussed when they were both at 140, when suprise suprise mayweather was "ducking" hatton and hatton had the style to beat mayweather like castillo did. It was a huge money fight, ricky was undefeated, large amounts of people picked him to win. Floyd exposed him, he was never the same fighter again.
Secondly, beating someone more decively than someone else means f.uck all in this case imo. If mayweather jr ko's marquez does that make him p4p no 1 because he destroyed someone pac barley got decisions over? Hatton ko'd castillo with one shot, mayweather went the distance with him twice, hatton still got beat up.
Carl froch just knocked out someone Bernard Hopkins couldnt beat in 2 attempts, what does that mean?..........Absolutley nothing, other than Carl Froch can beat taylor.
I got a shit load of respect for manny pacquiao, but everytime a top boxer wins, on NSB the dicklickers begin to flood the forum with stupid threads, often about the same thing, concerning shit which doesnt add up one bit.
Straight up IF and thats and IF, floyd beats marquez, I still think Pacman has a real chance against floyd, f.uck what happened between pac and marquez its about styles. So why the f.uck people are talking about pac knocking out mayweather I dont know.
pacquiao , barrera , morales , marquez of this decade is pretty damn close to hearns , duran , leonard , hagler of the 80's.
obviously duran and them are held to a higher regard and are much bigger names , but the quartet at 122-135 this decade ain't too shabby.
I agree. Pac has steadily won me over fight after fight. I am now firmly of the opinion that Manny is the best fighter of this decade and starting to push for consideration in the top 20 of all time stakes. He's a delight to watch.
Mayweather has always had the capacity to be the best but for the first time in his career he must actually chase someone else to regain the top position. This is a great situation as Floyd is a wonderful fighter but has never done more than he needed to do to be top dog. Floyd cannot continue with his prior ethos and exceed Manny Pac. This is especially true if Manny keeps on taking risks and big challenges.
Manny can now afford to lose against great odds and still be 'the best'.
Floyd can now no longer 'just win'.
Come on Floyd. Step up!!!!!! You can do it. You always could. But didn't!
I actually think JAB is right here, Pacquiao's name being mentioned with the likes of Whitaker, Leonard, Hagler and Hearns aren't that preposterous. He's a great fighter.
Hagler and Leonard?
This is gettin ridiculous. Saying Pac is the best of this era is ok, but putting him up there wit Leonard and Marvin? C'mon now...
Those guys beat HOFers in their prime in 15 round fights. Let's not get ahead of ourselves...

With all do respect to Leonard and Hagler, Manny seems to be a throw back to the likes of Mickey Walker and Harry Greb. Not saying he's greater than Marvin or Ray, but he seems the type of fighter to take chances like some of the greats from fargone eras.

Nobody would be getting ahead of themselves if they read the post in its proper context. Capiche'?

Im sorry my friend....You think Pac is the fighter of the decade, or Floyd would or could be if he beats top welters?
I actually think both are true but that post was in response to the question asked in the title. I think Pacquiao is the fighter of the decade right now.
manny pacquiao is a machine, but he will never be at floyds level..floyd is the one with the 0 on his fighting resume..i dont know why people hate floyd hes the most talented boxer we have since the muhammad ali days..we all know that hatton wasnt the same fighter since the loss to floyd.
Stop. Undefeated is overrated. If Brian Nielson had made it to 50-0, would he still be mentioned in the same breath as Marciano? No. Do losing early in your career and later to an all time great fighter in a particular weight class make you a lesser fighter than one who cherry picks to protect his record? No. Get real.
Pac is the type of fighter you'll see once in a lifetime in boxing, hes a throwback like the Leonards and Haglers

Your choice, both if you like, interested to hear your answer.

This is some disrespectful shit. Bernard Hopkins should be ahead of Floyd for fighter of the decade, Mayweather is clearly 3rd in this discussion.
Nard has to betaken into consideration in my opinion. But do beating Tito,Tarver and Pav surpass the accomplishmets of Manny? I don't think so. As great as Hop is, his accomplishments are magnified because of his age. He has been impressive, but don't think he's ahead of Manny or Floyd. Jmo.
I have Pac inching ahead as fighter of the decade simply because of Floyd's inactivity due to retirement.
While Floyd has been retired, Pac has won 4 fights in that time period, retained superfeather title, won lightweight title, and won a light welter title and beating the tranny zombie DLH.
It's pretty close though. Floyd has some notable wins in the early part of the decade against great fighters but to me Pac has inched ahead now because of his activity.
Floyd's 1 fight in 2004 doesn't help much either so I give the nod to Pac but if Mayweather can win once or twice this year, I would have him slightly ahead again.
If Floyd had taken on better comp and won at 147would you feel dlifferent? I know I would.
God now they make it sound like Hatton was like Henry Bruseles or Sharmba Mitchell :) or maybe even Arturo Gatti
Nice sig pic. :luvbed:

Yes he is, he earned it. I'm surprised to be even liking this guy, I never though I'd be a Pacquaio fan, but he sincerely won me over. Pacman today would **** up the pacman of the yesteryears.
