Joe Calzaghe was one of the true greats.
Joe would of beaten James Toney, he was a level below Calzaghe.
Hopkin is a more difficult prospect but he would have troube with a prime Joe's hand speed.
Jones would of been a pick em fight.
I wish people would celebrate a great and underrated fighter like Joe more, he was an exceptional talent.
won 46 (KO 32) + lost 0 (KO 0) + drawn 0 = 46
prime roy jones,
had he faced joe,
would have KO'd him in 5,
a shot roy Knocked him down in the first round,
a prime roy would have done it over and over
till the ref stopped it.
a way past it B-hop lost a split decision,
a prime hopkins would knock him out,
or win a UD,
thats real talk bitches.
Comparing Johnson to Calzaghe is ridiculous. Calzaghe has never been defeated and was a World Champion for over a decade.
He might not be the greatest fighter than that tiny island ever produced, but not many fighters have attained wins over World Champions such as Mikkel Kessler, Chris Eubank, Jeff Lacy and Bernard Hopkins.
:lol1:
Jones is the only guy Hopkins fought with better handspeed than Calzaghe. Answer this, who has Hopkins fought with the workrate, stamina, lateral movement, educated pressure, tactical awareness, and intelligent boxing brain Calzaghe has? I'll save you the time, nobody.
And that Johnson was not prime by any stretch, Johnson didn't peak until late in his career. Anyway, you're not serious comparing Johnson with Calzaghe, are you?
Yes
Glen Johnson is as quick as Calzaghe lol
How can Calzaghes hand speed be a factor in Hopkins Prime?????
Hopkins has faced Many guys with Good hand speed and he made them look BAD in his prime. He faced a PRIME Glen Johnson (a man Calzaghe ducked for years) and made him look terrible. Calzaghe doesn't even punch right. i think it would look bad for Calzaghe in a late round TKO or a UD. EASILY.

joe can punch.. when he throws straight PUNCHES he can hit hard.
but when he puts togheter those flurries, he slaps. slaps are slaps, not hard. he probably doesnt need to resort to slapping flurries in sparring.
he doesn't know how to punch straight. He is a slapper. he doesn't know how to punch right.

So why is it some dude on a forum thinks Joe slaps, yet the opponents he fought and his ex-sparring partners say otherwise?
Who's word are you more likely to believe?

he's the greatest of all time. why talk about second best when we got joe calzaghe right here right now.
Step 1. Remove Joe's Balls From your mouth.
Step 2. Get a Cinder block and a 5 foot rope.
Step 3. Tie One end around ur neck, other end around ur feet
Step 4. Throw Cinder Block Off Large Bridge.
Thank You and have a nice day
It's amazing how no one talks much about Calzaghe only a few months after announcing his retirement.
Floyd retired and it was like he never left. People talked almost as much about him when he was retired as when he was active.
Calzaghe gets talked bout enough, and the reason people were still talking about Floyd while he was away was because everyone knew his teary retirement was just a smoke-screen to avoid welterweights. And surprise, surprise....he's back to challenge the lightweight champ of the world.
i dont like joe AT ALL but it is what it is. a very good fighter with an unblemished record who got as far as his brittle has could get him. im sure people told him he'd never amount to much in the boxing world. although he never fought toney,(prime)Bhop or (prime) Jones, he has atleast proven enough to rank him up there with all these guys
i respect him (although i still crack a joke here and there :lol1)
some say being slapped hard hurts too.
Sigh.
These arguments are so lame and tired. Calzaghe would put most of us in a coma. If he slapped and had no power, his 46 opponents would have walked right through his shots. They didn't do it. They ****ing lost! They should be embarrassed by the fact that they got beaten by a semi-disabled Welsh bloke who, according to them, fights like a girl. Pussies.

That style of boxing is disgusting to watch, I really can't stand the fact that he has to resort to slapping just to rack up points.
I started out with the Ingles. I used to do a lot of body sparring with the likes of Bomber Graham, Johnny Nelson and Naseem Hamed. Nelson never had any bottle: he used to nick fights running away. But Naz was f*cking brilliant - so elusive and he hit really hard. Even when he was just 15, he told my uncle to get his autograph 'cos he was going to be a superstar.
Nigel Benn used me seven times over in Tenerife, including for the Gerald McClellan fight. I had a big bet, three figures, on McClellan to win in the first round at about 10-1. And he would've if the ref hadn't kept interrupting. Nige and me would spar half-an-hour a day, then both go out on the piss. We always had a headguard and 16 oz gloves and often I'd outjab him. Nigel weren't a liberty-taker.
But the best I've been inside the ring with was Joe Calzaghe in sparring. Beforehand, I thought he was quite boring to watch and looked as if he slapped but, f*ck me, he punches hard. If he slapped, Bernard Hopkins would've stood toe-to-toe with Joe, but he got on his bike, didn't he? If Joe and Nigel had fought, I think Joe would have been able to take the pain and would've ended up hurting Nigel, bit like Michael Watson did.

That says a lot. Calzaghe never engrained his greatness into the consciousness of boxing fans. The fact that he had great talent is besides the point. A lot of fighters have had great talent but are not remembered as "Greats". Calzaghe will be forgotten by most people in the next 15 years.

Joe Calzaghe is a damn bum. The biggest fraud in boxing. A disgrace.
OK, so answer one question:
Why was getting a win over Calzaghe such a big deal?
Answer one more:
Should anyone who lost to a "damn bum" and "the biggest fraud in boxing" be embarrassed?

jus becuz i feel like being an asshole,
im gonna say it,
calsappy aint shit compared to prime B-hop an prime Roy Jones,
and they all aint shit compared to VINNIE PAZ!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you seriously trying to convince everyone that Joe fought just "one credible fighter" in his entire career?
Just one?
Dear me.
roy was washed up. beating him means as much as berbick beating ali. lacy was a bum, dont give me that u said this and that.. he never beat nobody, not before or after joe. kessler is a decent fighter, but if he was something special his ppl wouldnt protect him so much. that leaves eubank who was past his best but still a solid win, especially so early in joes career. and hopkins, who also was past his best.. but it doesnt matter since i didnt think he beat hopkins anyways.
joe was a very talented fighter, but he was to obsessed with staying undefeated he didnt take the risks he should have. hes a couldve, shouldve but didnt fighter who doesnt deserve to go down amongst the best of his time lil less of all time.
wow..lmaoo
