Utter nonsense. Hopkins fans act like this was Pacquiao-Margarito or Mayweather-Marquez. Ridiculous.
please tell me one round Pascal won after round 3? He had a 5 point lead after the first three rounds and still lost that fight clear as day. There wasn't a single round after 3 you could give to Pascal. And if so, tell me so I can watch it again.
Agreed... well-put.
well, calzaghe as much as everyone hates on him didnt go 46-0 for nothing... guy was a really good boxer... and to be honest, i thought he had hopkins totally frustrated in that fight, thats why bernard was going on with all of his shenanigans like acting like his nuts got chopped off when calz barely hit him below the belt.. either way that was a really close fight... i think calz kinda made bhop look bad though when he resorted to those little tactics..
He did pull out... a little to late 8th round but he pulled out.
No mas from the stool.
If he was going to quit, he should have quit like he did against Hopkins, before he got seriously pummelled.
I would've not made weight , bring on the penalty still getting paid.
Agreed. SO what happened? Did he take off too much weight too soon and then put it back on and have to lose it again last minute?
I don't understand how any of you can say that staying in one division your whole career and fighting (often naturally lighter fighters) isn't less impressive than moving up in weight and fighting bigger people, all other things equal. That's just not a credible argument.
There are other ways to defend Hagler's greatness.
Wait... are people here really questioning whether performance-enhancing drugs that increase stamina, strength and muscle recovery might significantly improve a boxer's training and performance??? Like, if two versions of the same fighter met in the ring-- one who had used PEDs like EPO throughout camp and one who hadn't, you really don't think the one who used PEDs would have a significant physical advantage over the other? That's either nonsensical or dishonest trolling.
You can't be serious. PWill and Martinez are both junior-middleweights. Andre Ward is a real super-middleweight. Ward is bigger, faster and stronger than Martinez and far, far more difficult to hit than Williams and Pavlik. There's absolutely no logical reason to think that Martinez would have a good shot of beating him, barring horrible officiating and judging.
LOLs.............................................
lol all you want but real talk... Hopkins, the man who lost to Jermain Taylor (twice), is just too lazy in the ring to beat someone with Ward's skills and motor.
puh lease..Chad Dawson beats Hops, but Hops schooooooooooooooooooools Ward. just cause you clinch Allen Green to death doesnt mean you beat Bernard. Bernard needed to leave 160 alot sooner then he did, heck he was almost 40 and still cutting the weight. thats why he looked bad against JT . above 160 he schools Ward..
What makes you think Bernard Hopkins has anything for Andre Ward in 2010? Seriously, how do you think Bernard wins that fight? How many punches would Bernard throw a round, let alone land?
Nothing against Cotto, but Yuri just ain't good enough to truly gauge what Steward has done for Cotto. I think Cotto would have still won in the same fashion.
Agreed. Cotto only has problems with guys who bring the fight to him and put him under pressure. After seeing Foreman's complete lack of firepower and physical strength, I think this would have been a safe, easy fight for him regardless.
An Over the hill B-Hop still beats 95% of fighter out there.
Even now I think he'd give every fight from 168-175 a very tough fight.
Hopkins is not an easy fight for anyone, if Ward and Hopkins fought today it would be like watching a young hopkins vs a more experienced, savvy but less athletic Hopkins.
Ward would easily outpoint the Hopkins who fought Calzaghe.
man ever since hopkins fought jt he has been a complete bum
the trainer has nothing to do with it
and he was badly hurt by that punch, watch the reply he holds on for dear life like an infant
"badly hurt"? I don't know about all that.
puh lease..Chad Dawson beats Hops, but Hops schooooooooooooooooooools Ward. just cause you clinch Allen Green to death doesnt mean you beat Bernard. Bernard needed to leave 160 alot sooner then he did, heck he was almost 40 and still cutting the weight. thats why he looked bad against JT . above 160 he schools Ward..
Still funny. The Ward underestimation in this thread was already comical in 2010 and it's even more hilarious with hindsight.
Ward cannot out box Joe, everyone with eye can see this. Toe to toe Ward has no chance he can't flurry doesn't have the upper body movement nor the output or footwork of Joe. That's a fact any sane boxing fan will tell you.
*BUT*
Some People think he could beat him using his box (1 punch?), grab and maul style right?
Well let me ask you this: if Bernard Hopkins; the master of grab, maul and inside fighting could not maul Calzaghe what proof do anyone have that Ward could?!!?! Unless you're saying Ward is a better inside fighter than Hopkins who is a recognized ATG..........
Lets go one further. if you watch the Hopkins v Calz fight you'll actually notice how Calzaghe - who has never really fought maulers before - superbly nullified Bernard's inside fighting by beating him at his own game and tying his left arm up and tucking his body in making bernards' rabbit punches impossible.
So I have to ask again: Why are people here - and on other forums - saying Ward beats Calzaghe. Styles make fights I've just broken it down for eerbody in this fight HOW can Ward beat Joe!?!?!
The Hopkins analogy is worthless. Ward is naturally bigger and stronger, and far hungrier/far more active in the ring. A more active Hopkins would have easily beaten Calzaghe, so I don't see why it's so outrageous to think Ward could take 7 rounds off him.
You just solidified my post. At 140 he's a bully at 147 he's a normal puncher.
Manny is a more dangerous puncher at 147 than he was at 130 and can take a better punch than he could at 130...how is this possible based on the history of boxing ?
You're in an argument with some Pacquiao stans and you're trying to use logic and reasoning? Good luck bro.
Sweet Pea is a Southpaw. gives mayweather trouble all fight.
I think Floyd would be more likely to figure out Sweat Pea than vice versa. Floyd also has a 3-inch reach advantage and looks physically much stronger at 147 than Pernell ever did.
There will always be excuses when the fight is over no matter who wins. The "He was too big" excuse will be all over the place if Marg wins. Just watch this forum after the fight lol.
I pick Marg to win this fight...I see him being able to walk down and stop Pac in a very fun and explosive fight.:boxing:
I think the "he's too big" bs is being spread around by Pac's cheerleaders and hype people, so that when he dominates Margarito, they can try to sell it to the ignorant masses as an impressive accomplishment.
Yeah I have to agree on the homie's post above me. Pac man is waxing everyone's ass. Just that some of his fans (not all of them) are some of the most dumb racist, multiple fake account making mutha****ers that ever lived.
Agreed! His mindless, non-true-fan cheerleaders make it hard to root for him. After arguing that he was a top 2-3 p4p fighter for years, I had to jump off his bandwagon a couple years ago.
