Watching the 24/7 again, and Oscar looks so thin & weak. Like 3 weeks before the fight he had already made the weight limt, 147. He had tottaly messed the weight up and should never of been fighting there.
Do you think he should of pulled out of the fight? With a excuse, and the say lets do it ar 154 instead or leave, and go after a title at 154lb?
I just really do feel he had no right being in the ring that night, he his body was complete weak mess.

Cotto, hatton and cheato fought pac in their weight classes, pac did the same annihilation!
DLH thought he has a good chance coz he got a competitive fight with floyd.
little did he knows that Pac was a much greater fighter!!
He did pull out... a little to late 8th round but he pulled out.
No mas from the stool.
If he was going to quit, he should have quit like he did against Hopkins, before he got seriously pummelled.
I would've not made weight , bring on the penalty still getting paid.
Agreed. SO what happened? Did he take off too much weight too soon and then put it back on and have to lose it again last minute?
Why?
De La Hoya's ego wouldn't have allowed him to anyways.
He felt in his heart that no matter what condition he was in, that this was an easy payday against a lightweight. And throughout 24/7, he boasted about being in the best shape of his life, which he clearly wasn't.
To salvage whatever dignity he had left, he claimed Pac still couldn't really hurt him. But when Pac was accused of using PEDs, he changed his story and said Pac hit just as hard as Mosley and Vargas, two noted steroid users.
lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oscar had a great career. I just try to not put too much emphasis on his last few years.
It had nothing to do with the weight drain, DLH was already past his best and on his way to shot. You saw it in the Forbes fight, how even a light hitting Forbes was able to bust up DLH's face.
which is why I was one of the few people that predicted a Pacquiao win. also no one pays attention when Pacquiao had already been weighing 147lbs in 130lb fights, so I knew hed have no trouble moving up.
this thread doesn't make sense at all... oscar is the one who challenged pacquiao... pulling out will make him look dumb... also, oscar had said before the fight that he is on the best shape of his life... i wonder what would happen to him if he is on the worst shape of his life during the pacquiao fight....
I'm glad he didn't give that cheating scumbag a big payday. I'm sure Margacheater would have worn his magical wraps against Oscar.
Haha, If Oscar woulda fought Margarito back then, there would be no Nazim Richardson to catch those bricks in Tony's gloves. Oscar woulda got mauled.
Dude, your as bad as DLH as I am about Roy Jones.
I agree with DLH cherry picking or trying to after he was a part time fighter, but please he had a go early at some very good guys.
I am not a DLH fan but I really enjoyed the Quartey, Vargas, and Tito fights.
I think he rates because of those.
I too started hating him a bit later.
But not as bad a RJJ jr after Ruiz.
I don't know what was there to hate about Roy after Ruiz, if anything it would have been before Ruiz but I guess.
Anyways, yes he fought Tito even though he ran for his life in the last 4 rounds OK.
But, he always said he would never fight Vargas, he would not give Vargas the payday, would not fight him and then after Tito soften him up and Vargas was getting drop by Rivera and looking like eh against 'Shibata' Flores that is when the ol great warrior Oscar decided to fight him and saying he knew where to hit Vargas at now pointing to his chin.
He jumped on Quartey when he looked vulnerable against Lopez, he was dropped and hurt in that fight, and Oscar had to postpone the fight with a cut that nobody saw and fought Quartey after Quartey had a year of inactivity.
Jrosales is blinded by his DLH hate...he will never give him any props. DLH gave us a lot of exciting fights, but most of these young cats wouldn't know because they didn't watch boxing in the 90's.
I have been pretty excited about almost all of Pac fights. Should we not criticize Pac decisions cuz' he gives us exciting fights? WTF?
Jrosales is blinded by his DLH hate...he will never give him any props. DLH gave us a lot of exciting fights, but most of these young cats wouldn't know because they didn't watch boxing in the 90's.
True.
Just like people don't believe that Roy as good as/better than Pacquiao in the 90s, all they remember is the dude's most recent fights.
Oscar was a true warrior.
Who would have thought Oscar would be "shamed" in that fight?
A lightweight champion who will go against a junior middleweight in a welterweight match?
No one could have predicted the outcome of the fight. Not even the boxing writers who wrote about the the fight as a farce and a circus. Not even Oscar himself have predicted that he be "massacred."
He even belittled the skills of Pacquiao in his interviews before the fight with all the confidence in him leading to the fight.
He was simply demoralized beginning the first two rounds..that brought his mind at a loss, because he could not keep up with the speed.
IDk... should Roy have pulled out of his first fight with Tarver because he looked like a zombie. Should Tarver have pulled out after coming off a movie set, losing a lot of fat and feeling "flat" against B-Hop. Truth is Oscar thought he was picking the easiest, biggest money fight available, but he fukked it all up coming into the ring looking like a homosexual male model with an eating disorder.
He should have never taken the fight. For him to pick on a small guy like Pacquiao was a disgraced. The fight was a circus act in many eyes. The only suprised was that Oscar got his azz kicked hard instead of Pacquiao.
Yes, bur Oscar is a warrior so he gave the fans everything he had.

He totally cherry picked Ike Quartey too.
And Tito, what a bum.
LOL.
Well didn't he fight Quartey after he say a ***** in the armor when Quartey fought Lopez? And, then to make it even worse suffered a "cut" to postpone the fight which made Quartey in active for a year.
Yes, I agree with you again except for the last sentence :D
Yeah...what a cherry picker. Instead f just fighting the unstoppable Margacheater he went on to fight the easiest guy out there that any bum can beat...Oscar is such a duck!
Yea that duck after saying I will fight the winner of Cotto-Margarito then decided to duck the winner
then his happy cherry picking decided to pick on a LW who only was at LW for just one fight mind you who barely moved and was going to move even 2 more weight-classes.
Yea I agree with your last sentence.
The only difference is between Oscar, Floyd and Pac. Is that Oscar is not good enough to win his cherry pick fights unlike Floyd and Pac who cherry pick no doubt but at the end are ATG fighters.
Too bad that Oscar was too much of a cherry picker to take that fight huh?
Yeah...what a cherry picker. Instead f just fighting the unstoppable Margacheater he went on to fight the easiest guy out there that any bum can beat...Oscar is such a duck!
I wonder
I wonder what Nacho was thinking leading up to that fight. I seriously doubt that DLH looked good against his sparring partners.
Judging from his performance and the fact that he made weight so quickly, I bet even his sparring partners should have seen a difference. I would hope that Nacho could at least see that DLH was too slow.
In that case he was but you got to admit Oscar fought a crazy list of opponents throughout his career.
I also admit that he cherry pick more than just that one time against Pac.

Should Of De La Hoya Pulled Out Against Pacquiao? | BoxingScene Community
