What's kind of funny/sad is take Mayweather and Pacquiao out of the equation and Brook has the most significant win at 147 with Porter. It's a shame he totally pissed away any momentum he had.
Roach could say the sky is blue and I'd wonder if it was gray and cloudy. not saying he's lying, but I'd trust a talking panda that just learned English over him.
Larry makes Golovkin threads now :lol1:
GGG has got hardcore boxing on lock, but he has yet to fully connect with a wider audience like a Pacquiao or Mayweather.
At 34 his window of opportunity is closing but he's good for at least 2 years I think. Hard to see the current crop of MWs beating him.
I'm interested to see how much longevity GGG's career is gunna have. Fortunately for him his skills rely on basic fundamentals and power. He's not someone who relies on speed or athleticism which tend to fade quicker.
I might be in the minority but I'm just completely not feeling this fight. Every fight since like 2012 Pacs team has said the old Pacquiao is back and looking to make a statement and we get the same Pacquiao every time who lacks that killer instinct. Bradley is what makes this interesting because I truly believe he's the best fighter he ever has been with Atlas, but I dunno, this fight is just really meh for me. I think I might just end up watch the college hockey championship for free instead.
Excellent post, hopefully people will learn to accept Mayweather/Pacquiao are gone or going. If the Heavyweights live up to the hype i think we will be in for a treat over the next 7-10 years.
I think the Heavyweight division is primed for a resurgence right now because of all the catchweight divas. In recent years we had Mayweather willing to fight Canelo only at 152. Canelo holds the 160b title but is only willing to fight 1lb over the JMW limit. GGG will fight Froch and Chavez at 168, but Ward must come down to 164. Ward was only willing to fight Dawson at 168. Broner and Porter had to be at 144 or 45 or whatever it was. I'm not even willing to write up all the times Pacquiao abused catchweights because there was just too many. Heavyweights will benefit from the incompetence and diva behavior of the lower weight champions.
I think there's a few reasons for that.
1. Mayweather and Pacquiao were consistently doing great numbers and skewed fans idea of what a top talent boxer can produce.
2. Boxing is very fractured right now with many rival promotions unwilling to work together.
3. The Mayweather/Pacquiao effect. 2009 would have produced a better fight between the two but you'd be an idiot to claim that it would have done better financially. So now you have top fighters unwilling to fight other top fighters at the moment because they believe, and perhaps rightly so, that if they wait a while and "let the fight build" it will be worth more.
4. Because of reasons 2 and 3 a lot of top talent boxers may be considered at the top of their division, but they lack any career defining wins that put them into that special category. They're not building legacies but building towards big money fights.
He has been pro for 9 going on 10 years and is 33 almost 34
compare that to others and what they achieved in 10 years
Does Boxingscene pay you to make bullsh1t troll threads to drive website traffic? You've been a member for 5 years and average 25 posts a day with over 46,000 total. I have a hard time believing you could be that fvcking stupid to not know why the first part of GGG's career sucked.
It bothers me that BJS is a champion and unwilling to fight another champion. Having said that I will admit that's it's nice to see a guy who can't win basically admit he can't win.
answer these questions...
what did guerrero do to earn a shot with mayweather?
what did rios do to get a shot with pac?
what did berto do to get a shot with mayweather?
what did algieri do to get a shot with pac?
yea, thats right..
Guerrero had beaten Berto at a time when he was the gate keeper to Floyd and let's be honest no one claimed that was some great fight leading into it.
Rios did nothing but Pac had just gotten KTFO and needed a punching bag to bounce back.
Berto vs Floyd was universally laughed at by everyone and considered a joke.
Algeri had beat Provodnikov. If Khan had the balls to fight Provo it would be the most dangerous fight he's had since Danny.
i dont agree with this. its not like pac has gotten his opponents seriously hurt but couldnt finish it because he lacks the killer instinct that he used to have. its the fact that his opponents knows how to fight him now. they dont just come in trying to bully pac like before.
so now its making manny harder to hit them clean with a flush shot. if u look at manny's fight pre 2010, all his opponents come at him right out the gate trying to bang with him. age does play a factor in this, pac is also getting old slowing down but the whole killer instinct is still there.
its just that manny cant delivery a ko because his opponents knows how to fight him so they wont get taken out themselves. if u're a fighter, stuff like finishing off the fight just dont suddenly disappear from your arsenal. he still have the killer instinct.
Fair point. You can't compare fighting Bradley to fighting Hatton. Just for me though this fight doesn't have me super excited. I think it'll be a good and entertaining fight, but I don't feel the need to see it. Part of the problem also is Pacquiao and Mayweather have already fought so there's not too much to look forward to if Pacquiao wins. I think Bradley wins this fight but what's next for him? I'd put money on a Vargas fight. I'm just sick of the Top Rank match ups. I'd be much more excited about this if it meant a possible Bradley vs Brook/Thurman/Porter/Spence or something but realistically it's going to be Vargas win or lose so once again we get another rematch from Top Rank.
Contrast this to the Khan Canelo fight. I think that's a much worse fight but it's much more intriguing because you have the what's next factor. What happens next if Canelo wins? Khan will lose but what happens next if he wins? Bradley vs Pacquiao lacks all of the what's next feeling.
But now you're just exaggerating.
It's not that big of a jump as people are making up. It's only one pound above the junior middleweight limit. Khan is a big welterweight and his walking weight is 153. It's not as big a jump as people are making out.
People are letting their view of Khans below average punch reinsure be cloud their judgement.
It's not just the weight. There's so many factors going against Khan. Yes he's basically only jumping one weight class, but Canelo drains himself to make that weight class. And yes, Khan's chin is a big factor in me totally ruling him out. He was getting rocked by freaking Algeri!!! And to top it all off one of my favorite things about Khan is that his natural reaction to getting rocked is to fight back, but that's not going to help him. There are so many factors that make this a total mismatch.
Khan doesn't have the chin to receive a career changing beating. He'll be knocked out before any permanent damage could set in. Margarito took a career changing beating from Pacquiao because he had the chin to get punched for 12 rounds. Khan didn't have that.
I understand what you're saying completely - there's a LOT of factors against Khan. BUT he's better than both Rosado & Clottey, due to his assets of speed and movement I'd say he definitely has a better chance to beat Canelo than the former two as he possesses the assets which Canelo generally struggles with.
I think he was poor against Algeri because he was struggling to make weight and possibly underestimated him, also Algeri is a very good fighter people just focus on his peformance against Pacquiao.
And just from a business point of view the fight makes sense for GBP & Canelo. Rosado, Clottey & Monroe bring nothing to the table financially. Khan has a huge fan base and everyone is lapping the fight up barring sections of hardcore fans who due to attitudes they're showing in response to this fight put people off boxing!
If Canelo wins its not a huge wins by any means, but it's a decent win.
If Khan wins, well there's nothing to say really!
I'll agree that Khan has a better chance than Rosado or Clottely but that doesn't mean much. However he also has a much much higher chance of getting KTFO.
I also agree that Algeri's better than people give him credit for, but his power is properly rated as low IMO. It's not the fact that the fight was close that I had a problem with but rather Khan's ability to take his punches. If Algeri can rock Khan than Canelo could end him with ease.
Roman Gonzalez is a better fighter than Deontay Wilder, doesn't mean he'd have a better chance against Fury. Sh1tting on this fight doesn't make you a hater, being okay with this fight makes you beyond a nuthugger.
Obviously lost. Remember when someone said something about Canelo fighting Rosado and people were ripping it apart? Yeah Rosado is 10x the fight this is. Most people weren't exactly holding out for him to take on a killer before GGG, but they wanted a legit 160lber at or at least near 160. Canelo went the exact opposite direction.
This isn't embarrassing as a Canelo fan, this is downright embarrassing as a fan of the sport of boxing.
A lot of people have pointed to Paul Williams as some one who didn't use his height as well as he could have.
You could add Bradley in some fights since he doesn't have the power to effectively brawl.

I think a Martinez movie would be great, except for some reason I see Mario Lopez doing it which just sits wrong with me.
Just like to add thanks to everyone contributing. It's nice to see what a thread looks like when it's not pure nut huggery or blind hatred. It's great to see Boxingscene coming together for the sport.
Yeah, tyson gets first place due to the fame recognition, but tapia and camacho's stories from the cradle to the grave would truly be some entertaining stuff.. Just so much material and ground to cover, these would be 3 hr epics
Did you by any chance catch that HBO special about Tapia? I've been meaning to watch it but haven't.
well HBO already made a Tyson Movie
I ain't counting HBO or made for TV movies, I want legit, big time actors in this stuff. Boxing deserves it.
Hopkins
...
I think we need some time before we make a Hopkins movie but in no way would I disagree.
