In a really surprising bit of news, Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is saying that unbeaten WBO 140lb champion Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs) turned down a fight against Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) for April 9th. Roach says Crawford said no to a fight against Pacquiao, and that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said they wouldn’t try and get Crawford to take the fight with Pacquiao yet.
If Arum believes there’s still time to match Pacquiao against Crawford at a later date, then there is a chance that Arum will be able to convince Pacquiao to resume his boxing career long enough to make that fight happen. However, Pacquiao is saying he wants to retire so that he can focus on his political career in the Philippines.
“I think it’s a good fight for him . Hopefully, we’ll get someone to come out of retirement after that,” Roach told Fighthype. Crawford said no. Bob said they won’t try Crawford yet. Crawford is too young for Manny. Crawford may be a future superstar, but he’s not that far yet. They’re still building him. Crawford may be someone down the line, but I don’t feel he’s ready for Manny yet,” Roach said.
So either Crawford turned down the Pacquiao or Arum if Roach is to be believed. It’s one of those two things.
Crawford wanted the Manny fight it's so obvious, he was waiting for Manny to choose his opponent for his presumely 'final fight'. Arum was pushing Pacman to choose Crawford, it was said in many articles, he didn't want another Bradley - Pacquiao fight because fans are bored of it. The bottom line of all of this is Manny Pacquiao ducking Crawford for easier monney and probably a winning record against Bradley. Soon after Pacquiao decision, Crawford took the B plan and went against who was available (Lundy). To me it's clear Crawford would have won versus Pacquiao, probably by stoppage, i know this, Crawford know this, Arum know this, and it look like Pacquiao too knew this. I dont care about what Freddie Roach say to downplay Crawford, he's not rooting for TC, he is for Postol.
either you are saying Pac choose whom he fights or he don't.
make up your mind. :buttkick:

I doubt this is true. I mean a young lion like Crawford wouldn't want to fight an aging superstar like Manny?? Seems fishy to me. At this point in Manny's career, its not like Crawford wouldn't stand a chance...
Crawford's best win is a blown up featherweight Yurorkis Gamboa, Gamboa had his moments wobbling Crawford multiple times in that fight. Believe me when I tell you that Crawford is not ready for Pacquiao.
Crawford will UD pacquiao when they fight.
And it will probably be later this year because pacquiao isn't guaranteed to win the election
Crawford is a smart man, he realises that earning good money against low level opponents while Pacquiao fades further is the way to go.
Not the ballsy move of a great fighter which is lacking in American boxing but it will probably earn him a bigger payday later against a weaker Pacquiao.
As a Crawford fan I was glad to hear he wasn't going to be fighting Pacquiao.
Crawford simply isn't ready. Pacquiao would've pummeled him.
Crawford needs a couple B-level fights at 147 before fighting anybody in the top 10 there.
Pacquiao ain't pummeled **** in years.
Yall need to let the past go. Pacquiao is a great fighter that is past it.
No way he would have destroyed bud.
Pacquiao isn't gonna even pummel bradley
just like what the canelo fans said after he lost to floyd. still too green, and that if the fight takes place 2-3 years later, it would be completely different. Crawford could very well beat manny, just not yet. or if he beats manny now, he'll prolly take more damage than if the fight happens a year later or so. by then manny will decline even more, less threat. its just not a smart move for bob to make this fight now. bob is not desperate yet.
I thought Pacman was to retire... It was only about "passing the torch", doe... :)

I don't understand: if Crawford was the "real deal", then Pacman should have passed him the torch... right?
it's entirely possible that arum wants to make sure pacquiao is completely done before he risks his "next big thing" against him
i'm of the opinion that a pacquiao with anything left in the tank would waste crawford
Roach is pathetic liar. Didn't Manny's team claimed they picked Bradley because he has more of a name and will help with ppv....somewhere along those lines?
So Roach..A part of Manny's team(the one who is consulted on opponents) has to be lying because another member of Manny's team said so....
How about Arum controls both guys and decided not to have his cashcow fight his future cashcow.
no one gears up for postol. that fight is going to be awful. immediately after a clincher wins people seem to forget what they were just watching for the last 30 minutes.
Another one of the useless posters on this site...Yeah it was Postols clinching that beat Lucas, just like it was Garcia's low blows....Lucas is a B level fighter who was beaten by better men..get over it
Postol vs Crawford is the biggest fight in the division after Crawford vs Broner and only a fool who doesn't enjoy boxing would complain about it.
I don't see it. Crawford would pick Manny apart and stop him. The fight would put him on the map in a big way, yet he would turn it down? Freddie trying to save face, again.
You are the worst poster on this site...easily, everything you say is agenda driven trash.

Arum didn't wanna risk Terrance Crawford possibly losing to Pacquiao, but there's nothing wrong with losing to Manny Pacquiao, even a diminished version. It would've been a learning experience for Crawford and the exposure from that fight would have benefited him in a similar way to Canelo's loss against Floyd.
WOW...Crawford could have made huge money. If he'd have won it would have catapulted him to stardom. If he'd have lost...well he's young enough to take it and still move forward like when Canello lost to Mayweather. Personally...I think it was a bad decision to turn it down if it's true.
