I've always heard a lot of talk about tall guys who don't fight tall but what about fighters who attempt game plans that are completely beyond their skillsets?
Guys who say, fight fast but don't have the reflexes to pull it off? Luis Collazo and Adrien Broner strike me as two guys who don't have the reflexes to pull off their speed styles and don't know when to give up on it (or don't have the tools too) when they run into people faster than them.
What about guys who try to fight like a puncher when they don't have the ability and suffer from constantly overcommiting and getting caught?
Any other examples you can think of? Any people who regularly sabotage their fights by not playing to their strongest skills?
Josesito Lopez supposedly ran track in HS. He always strikes me as a decent , gritty little boxer who can win fights on points. Somehow though, he always gets lured into all-out brawls--especially true against guys much bigger and stronger than him.
While it's helped him on occasion, I feel like it's at the expense of his longevity. Disciplining his own aggression and employing technical skill along with mental toughness(something a guy who ran long distance track should have no problems with)creates a whole new set of tools to work with.
I was just about to make a thread about this. I hope maidana has showed these amateurs that they don't need to fight like floyd mayweather when they turn pro. Example berto and broner would have been much better if they fought as pressure fighters. I recall a while back Roger Mayweather said 'you have to do something different to be a top fighter'.
A lot of people have pointed to Paul Williams as some one who didn't use his height as well as he could have.
You could add Bradley in some fights since he doesn't have the power to effectively brawl.
