I'm watching the replay on ESPN 3, and damn Teddy treats Bernardo Osuna like sh*t! Openly disagreeing with all of his observations, and really talking down to him like he is completely new to the sport. I bet Osuna is tempted to say something, though he's probably afraid Teddy will go crazy on him.
Yeah, Teddy sounded like a narcissist tonight.
Ryan did this to himself for uploading a fight poster of him against Pacquaio before there was anything concrete.
Oscar is out here telling the truth letting us know there has been nothing substantial negotiated or discussed with Manny's team. Ryan starts throwing a fit. He has the ego of Canelo without the resume or accomplishments. Bad sign.
Subscription is ideal but it fails to deliver the truly big fights. Maybe a combo of both is the best solution. Triller is showing that there's still a market for PPVs.
Fury Vs Joshua, Canelo Vs Charlo, Ryan Garcia Vs Tank. Those fights are likely ending up on PPV. Not a subscription service.
I think it's very important for both companies to get this fight on their platform. If Plant ends up fighting on DAZN it sends a message that PBC are just a feeder promotion. All of their 160-168 fighters would be regarded as B side fodder for Canelo and DAZN.
If DAZN loses Canelo, what exactly are you getting for your 20$ a month? Losing both Canelo and Golden Boy? They'd be in a tough position to attract subscribers in the USA.
We'll find out how committed each company is to boxing.
Leaving DAZN: Better late than never. DAZN cannot be trusted. They refuse to honor their contracts and their management is incompetent.
Signing with Triller: Not sold on this yet. I feel with Ryan Garcia you can entice a traditional broadcast network to partner with. It's yet another app building from the ground up.
Best news is they're leaving DAZN.
He's the Golden Boy. Almost every boxing superstar in America the past two decades has had to go through him one way or another. Mayweather, Pacquiao, Canelo, Ryan(next in line).
Love him or hate him, anything he touches turns to gold.
He has his core fan base that will tune in, but the hype will depend on who he ends up fighting. Like when Mayweather fought Berto or Canelo fought Yildrim. There was no hype.
Tyson is the exception, he's just special.
Is DAZN broke? They're the ones who refused to honor their original contract with GBP/Canelo.
It sounds like Oscar just missed being inside the ring. He's been engrossed in the sport since he was six years old. He just loves boxing.
Out in the real world, boxing fans are fans of boxers, not the suits who promote them. I've never really liked Frank Warren, but I didn't stop being a Tyson Fury fan when he left Mick Hennessy and signed with old fish eyes. Neither did I only get interested in BJS when he left fish eyes and signed with Matchroom.
And I don't see why Ryan and Virgil would divert Mexican American fans away from Canelo, especially with them all on the same platform. Being a boxing fan isn't a zero sum game. You don't need to stop being interested in one guy to get interested in somebody else.
Oscar isn't your typical promoter in a suit. He's a legend who is still an inspiration to many in Southern California. A poor Mexican American kid from East LA who won a gold medal and became a HOF.
Don't underestimate how tribal boxing fans can be. If GBP leave DAZN they won't be on the same platform. Ryan and Vergil are becoming must see attractions. They have higher ceilings due to being able to speak English fluently.
I'm not hating on Canelo btw, I'm a huge fan, but he's being naive. He's one loss away from being offered substantially less money, something he was protected against with his past contract with DAZN. A contract they refused to honor.
Once GBP leave and take Ryan and Vergil with them, DAZN will likely bleed subscribers in the US market.
It does appear that Oscar still has influence with a lot of Mexican American fight fans. A lot of their attention has diverted to Ryan and Vergil. Less subscribers in Canelo's core market can't be good for his visibility, his popularity has likely plateaued.
Under 500k. Fury Vs Wilder 3 would sell more PPVs than Fury Vs Joshua. There is minimal demand for that fight here. I sense zero buzz. Most casual boxing fans here know AJ as the guy who got knocked out by the chubby Mexican.
Mike Coppinger says Fury vs Joshua will do over 1 million PPV Buys in America. https://theathletic.com/news/joshua-vs-fury-fight-deal/ojG9wL8kY7UX
Delusional. Only fights I can see selling over a million are Canelo Vs Plant/Charlo/Benavidez on FOX/Showtime PPV or Ryan Vs Tank.
Bob Arum calls the arbitrators ruling on Fury-Wilder a "preposterous decision." Says the plan is to move ahead with Fury-Joshua in August and try to sell Wilder on facing the winner in November/December.

Wilder needs to demand the fight period. Fury has said he has Wilder's ass, mojo, soul and balls in his pocket... Wilder surely wants redemption, he can't go out like that.
There's no guarantee he'll ever get another shot at Fury after the Fury Joshua fight. This could be his only chance.
Thats probably why oscar set up ryan-fortuna? So he not only sets up ryan to lose but to lose to a complete unknown to casuals?
Ryan signed a 5 year contract with Golden Boy in 2019. If you want to get conspiratorial, one theory is he pulled out of the high risk low reward Fortuna fight because someone whispered in his ear about a huge multifight deal with Triller once GB's deal expires with DAZN at years end.
Oscar needs to be more diplomatic when it comes to the Canelo issue. Take pride that GB played a huge role in developing the #1 P4P and the face of boxing. Use that fact to your advantage, it can help lure new prospects.
Didn't PBC just pay 27m in combined purses for a PPV that struggled to sell 250K PPVs? That was with great promotion from FOX.
You should be asking yourself how sustainable that is in the long term, their projections for the Wilder Fury 2 fight are very inflated and not realistic.
DAZN is the true premier boxing platform as long as Canelo is fighting there exclusively. When a PBC fighter sells 1M PPVs back to back to back, let us know.
Where are you getting that it was $27 million in combined purses?
NSAC listed Wilder's pay at $3 million and Ortiz' pay at $1 million.
https://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=1-28137130
Per the Nevada State Athletic Commission, here are the official contract purses for Saturday night's PBC/Fox PPV card in Las Vegas: Deontay Wilder $3 million (but his guarantee is really about $20 million), Luis Ortiz $1.5 million (but his guarantee is closer to $7 million), Leo Santa Cruz $750k (but he's guaranteed about $2 million), Miguel Flores $100k, Brandon Figueroa $200k, Julio Ceja $50k, Luis Nery $300k, Emmanuel Rodriguez $75k.
He deserves it, the haters have been trying to discredit his Kovalev win, it started with claims of unfair rehydration clauses (doesn't affect Kovalev per his words), to saying he's been shot and is past it (despite avenging his KO loss and KOing a strong contender), and then finally after running out of ammunition, they start claiming the fight was fixed.
Canelo is an ATG, he is a once in a generation fighter. He has a few more years in his prime, it's going to be fun watching him prove that he's the best from 160-168, the haters will be frothing at the mouth the entire time, refusing to recognize greatness.
Golovkin never had the nuts to find out.
This. How many fantasy fights has Golovkin had and won on this forum? Canelo is out here making history knocking out the #2 ranked LHW while GGG is fighting Szreremata...
They advertise the series, Thursday Night Fights. There were press releases earlier this year about how they were going to start airing on DAZN and regional sports networks.
So the Golden Boy Thursday night fights will be aired on DAZN now?
Yes, this fight is showing up on the DAZN schedule for tomorrow. It's a monthly series they released the dates a while back.
I think people have grown accustomed to Canelo fighting on Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day weekend. This is an odd date for him, just like the Fielding fight last year. I did see a few TV ads while watching the NFL this weekend though...
There are so many sporting events during this time of the year. NFL, NBA, World Series. It's never going to break into the mainstream. There's people talking about a UFC fight here, I would not have been aware of a UFC fight if it wasn't mentioned within the boxing news sites I visit. Combat sports will never break into mainstream unless it's a mega fight. This is not a mega fight.
