Oscar De La Hoya to DAZN: Why Was No Executive At The Fight to Witness The Next Big Star in Boxing?

Out in the real world, boxing fans are fans of boxers, not the suits who promote them. I've never really liked Frank Warren, but I didn't stop being a Tyson Fury fan when he left Mick Hennessy and signed with old fish eyes. Neither did I only get interested in BJS when he left fish eyes and signed with Matchroom. And I don't see why Ryan and Virgil would divert Mexican American fans away from Canelo, especially with them all on the same platform. Being a boxing fan isn't a zero sum game. You don't need to stop being interested in one guy to get interested in somebody else. Oscar isn't your typical promoter in a suit. He's a legend who is still an inspiration to many in Southern California. A poor Mexican American kid from East LA who won a gold medal and became a HOF. Don't underestimate how tribal boxing fans can be. ​​​​​If GBP leave DAZN they won't be on the same platform. Ryan and Vergil are becoming must see attractions. They have higher ceilings due to being able to speak English fluently. I'm not hating on Canelo btw, I'm a huge fan, but he's being naive. He's one loss away from being offered substantially less money, something he was protected against with his past contract with DAZN. A contract they refused to honor.

So many US fight fans don't seem to understand that Canelo/Hearn are pulling subs from all around the world. The US market isn't the only market. Just stfu, put out quality content on a regular basis and business will take care of itself and then maybe you will get treated with more respect not only from DAZN but from your own fighters like Garcia. But even then its not enough the pricing for the seats are ridiculous for jis mismatches so i cant imagine when he fights someone good. Munguia has one more fight on his Golden Boy deal, Zanfer won’t continue the co promotional deal w/t Golden Boy after that. Hearn will offer Zanfer CEO Beltran multiple dates for his boxers if he signs Munguia w/t matchroom. Fast Eddie is a snake, he’s been 3 steps ahead of Oscar from the start. First Canelo now Munguia some people just don’t know how to built talent only steal it from other promotions. if he's offering more money, why is it bad? This is prize fighting, and the hurt business. Fighters need to make as much money as possible, and get out early if they don't want long-term damage.

Was that before or after the Canelo situation that resulted in a new deal between them? I remember things got restructured but didn't recall if the duration was mentioned. But I mean if DAZN let's GBP go are they just entrusting Eddie to figure out the US market, are they doing a deal with another US promoter & if so who or are they just giving up on making a serious mark in the US right now? It seems to me for now it's best to keep GBP around even if Oscar is kinda a fook up. This is the Hearn show going forward. There was a report that came out saying that DAZN will be focusing more on the European market in the short-term and Matchroom's contract with Sky is up very soon so you have to assume that he is going the DAZN route. Hearn will be the guy putting on shows on both sides of the pond. DLH has met up recently with Arum and Triller's executive. Trust me, it is no coincidence he's been doing that. Even Fat Dan tweeted that all is not well with GBP and DAZN.

I don't know how big Ortiz would become but there is one thing that I do know and that is he loves to take asswhoopings. Unlike, Canelo this kid likes to get hit. A guy like Ortiz would be a fighter like Terence Bud Crawford's dream. It will be like batting practice for him. A man who stays in the pocket all day eating punches. If they fight; Crawford would potshot and stomp kick the living shit out of him at will because Ortiz is too slow.

I like eddie but hes the only idiot thats willing to pay canelo what he wants. Canelo definitely isn't worth what hes getting paid. Oscar, haymon, bob know danm well its a loss to pay canelo so much and yet take a loss and thats why canelo is kissing up to hearn Oscar, Haymon and Bob couldn't screen Canelo's fights live in over 200 countries worldwide.

Anyone know how long the GBP/DAZN agreement is for? I'd be surprised if DAZN don't resign them. Eddie does well in the UK, but GBP is seemingly winning the US. They are gonna still need content & don't look like they will be showing NFL games for at least a decade. I mean unless they are looking to start showing international ping pong or something. It was for five years but who knows if there was an opt out at some point.

My point was more about the fact that Canelo is not going to show any loyalty after the Saunders fight. Canelo will stay with Hearn for as long as he thinks Eddie can do more for him than any other promoter, and not a day longer. You really think Hearn doesn't know that?

You can't have Munguia/KingRy/Ortiz/Etc and put them on ShoBox. GBP can get a better deal than that one. A partnership with ESPN would be nice. They aren't prospects anymore. I'm talking prospects. Bek the Bully could be on ShoBox, and would get a ton more eyes than some Deadzone undercard. EDIT - but if a partnership with ESPN includes a working arrangement with Top Rank, that could be quite good for the sport IMO.
