I have already explained these simple facts to the dumbest of dumb Paq-haters on this board at least one hundred trillion times. Blind hatred apparently causes blind stupidity. Facts do not matter when you are an idiot.
The talks with the Cotto camp had broken down because Cotto was insisting that he would not fight lower than 147 if it was for the belt while Manny's team was insisting that the fight be held no higher than 145. Mosley went on t.v. and said that he was willing to go down to 140 and fight for the belt that Pacquiao had just won against Hatton. What about those facts?
Pacquiao does have great speed, but at the same time, as everyone has been pointing out, he leaves his head up and has a tendency to jump in. You can do that against guys like Cotto and Clottey, but to do that against a defensive minded fighter like Mayweather is just asking to be KO'd. You can say all day that Pacquiao has improved a lot from the JMM fights, but there is a reason why there were never any serious negotiations to have a third fight. That is that JMM's counter punching style made it a harder fight than most and after Mayweather toyed with JMM, it would look bad if Pacquiao struggled with the same opponent. Everyone keeps talking about the speed and angles that Pacquiao uses, but with Mayweather's reach advantage, footwork, and uncanny timing, Manny's speed will be a non-factor after the first couple of rounds. As pointed out by Manny Stewart, Judah gave Floyd problems in the first couple of rounds as well with his speed and power, but he adjusted and then dominated him. I see the same thing happening against Pacquiao.
Now, about the testing issue, I understand the pride of not being dictated terms of a fight, but Floyd agreed to all the terms that Manny's camp wanted being the gloves used, ring size, weight penalty, and money split, but they couldn't agree on blood testing that Floyd would be taking too? The first "defense" about that was that a man with tattoos received voluntarily is afraid of needles. The next defense was that it would sap his strength if taken too close to the fight even though both fighters would be tested on the same day and be subject to the same fatigue(any medical professional will tell you that they don't draw enough blood for these tests to have that kind of effect). Even if it were true in terms of complaining about a test during the last week under usual circumstances, it isn't like Manny needs to cut weight to make the 147lb limit so that arguement is made even weaker.
I will never understand why all the nuthuggers are quick to say that Paul Williams should stay at 154 or higher instead of picking on "smaller" guys. If he can make 147 without being drained, I don't see what the problem is. There isn't enough money in the world that would convince Arum to let Pacquiao get in the ring with Paul Williams.
Floyd's style is the perfect style to fight Pacquiao. If you look at the two knockdowns against Cotto, they were landed while Cotto was attempting to match speed with Pacquiao and throwing combinations right in front of Pacquiao. Pacquiao is fast, but you guys keep forgetting about the speed of Mayweather as well as the reach advantage that he will have as well. He'll snap Manny's head back with his jab just like Cotto did, but unlike Cotto, Mayweather has a dangerous right hand that he can bring after it. 1-2 then move all night.
Cotto showed the blueprint in the first 2.5 rounds, but he didn't have the tools to execute. I like Cotto as a fighter, but the main issue with him is that he doesn't have a right hand. His jab and left hook are his calling cards. He has good movement, but without the right hand, it was going to be a hard fight unless the strength difference was overwhelming. His one hope was to try to overpower Manny and when that didn't happen, he didn't have a plan b. Pacquiao's natural style is tailor made for Mayweather's natural style so Pacquiao is going to have to be the one to come up with a different strategy.
Pavlik would postpone the fight then cancel because of a staph infection and then schedule another fight with a bum immediately after so we would never know.
roach will search for whatever bad habit floyd has and study him thoroughly.. i'm a fan of both guys and pinoy at that, but i'm picking floyd to win as of now, but my heart is with manny (pause)
The one bad habit that Floyd has is that he'll occasionally trap himself on the ropes while moving away. He doesn't pull straight back though so Manny is going to have to try to pounce on him when he does get trapped and hope he doesn't catch a counter right hand for his troubles.
Yea I'm rooting for him too. We need new young exciting fighters to carry on.
I can't get too excited about him unless he starts fighting better. His last three fights haven't shown me anything that would suggest that he deserves to hold a belt. Its easy to knock out a lot of nobodies as a prospect is groomed, but he hasn't looked good lately.
I can kind of follow in terms of him actually having to cut to make the weight when he fought Morales, but he doesn't really have to cut to make 147 so that throws that argument out the window. Also, the first thing that came out was that he was afraid of needles, then it was he was superstitious. Also, they agreed to have testing by other agencies but not the one who have confirmed results testing for HGH. Lets not forget that Mosley passed the testing even though he was doping.
Mosley knows that there are only two paydays out there for him now...either with PBF or Pacquiao. No one is going to pay to see him fight Cotto in a rematch so he wants to make the biggest money fight at the end of his career. Its funny though that people are making a big deal about Floyd not immediately agreeing to fight Mosley, but those same people gloss over the 2006 call out that Mosley didn't answer. This after asking for a 10 million dollar purse in 99 as well.
You can still get hurt with headgear and 16's. We got guys in my gym that come and go all the time due to sparring injuries. Granted, pac is a champion and consummate professional, but he can still be hurt. Say porter slams him with a body shot, flush. 16's 14's 12's..it doesn't make much of a difference if its a thunderous shot to the ribs.
And... while it is true these fighters probably respect, and look up to Pac, that won't stop them from trying to tear his head off. That's boxing.
Especially with a freaking financial incentive in place...
In a way, the fiercer your go at someone, the more you respect them, anyway. Whereas if one just goes partial effort, its almost like a show of disrespect. Like they aren't worthy of your full strength, type of thing.
Marvelously risky move by Roach...I hope it pays off and doesn't blow up in his face
I know that...I've been buzzed a couple of times myself, and I've put people down as well. But you fight how you train...if you don't have a guy coming at you with all he has, you aren't going to be ready for the real fight.
I've watched some of that Shawn Porter's fight footage...he ain't no slouch
I wouldn't be surprised if he hurt little pac...he must have like 20-30 pounds advantage, and he's pretty fast for his size, and powerful.
Roach offering sparring partners 1g for the KO is retarded, imo. Some mofos would kill for half that...
that's the way a fighter can get hurt in training camp.
It is actually smart. They are wearing 16 ounce gloves and headgear. Young fighters especially would be just in there not going out as most of the time, they are fighting someone they admire and even if they think they can hurt them, they won't.
I honestly can't give Margarito credit for any of his "accomplishments" since he got caught cheating. That could be the reason why the body shots later in the fight hurt Paul. Same thing happened in the Cotto fight, but Williams is a better boxer and was able to avoid more damage.
Why do people keep making these threads? I don't know why it keeps having to be pointed out, but the fight was contracted at 147. There was a penalty for coming in over 144, but the paper that Marquez and Mayweather signed was for a fight at Welterweight.
Frauds a pussy should fight margarito in jan anyway spadfora already beat up mayflower in sparring a while back
Margacheeto doesn't deserve a big fight after his suspension...he might as well not come back at all.
You can't just look at the punch stats and assume that one person should win. If you actually watched the fight live, you wouldn't think that Mosley had any advantage in any catagory. Cotto controlled how the fight was fought...and it was a clear victory to me...no landslide, but a comfortable won fight by Cotto. I like Mosley, but he didn't win that fight. I was in a house full of Mosley fans(my friend named his dog Mosley, has his autograph, etc, etc) and he thinks that it was a loss for Mosley. The only reason this is coming back up is because Mosley pulled a Kanye and now everyone is looking back at what he's done to deserve to be in the big money fights.
Froch needs a last round knockdown to win this fight if the judging is fair and not reacting to the home crowd. Only Froch nut huggers can say that he would deserve to win this if he doesn't knock him out.
Even if Margarito wasn't a KO puncher early in his career, does anyone remember of how Tommy Hearns wasn't a big puncher in the ams? I sometimes wonder if this shit is just blown out of proportion even though I dislike Margarito for other reasons. And Cotto got his ass beat fair and square.
We'll never know. Margarito sure isn't going to admit to having cheated before as that would definitely kill any hope he has of getting in the ring with anyone outside of his local gym.
It should be a 60-40 split for Mayweather. He put up bigger numbers with common opponents so to say that Pacquiao should get 50 automatically is wrong in my opinion. Mayweather-Marquez put up more than both Pacquiao-Marquez fights put together.
Margarito has little chance of becoming relevant again. While there is no solid evidence that he cheated before, I find it hard to believe that he didn't. No top WW is going to give him the time of day. He is going to have to start from the bottom fighting no names which is going to be hard to entice any top names to give him a second look. He is going to have to hope some young, hot prospect on the rise wants to use him like a stepping stone and that he can pull of an upset.
Jermain has the power and skill to put anyone in this tourney on the canvas...the question will be if he has finally figured out how to finish a fighter off, or at least finish the fight without gassing. I was extremely disappointed with his loss to Froch, but it seems like he has learned things from his previous losses. I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up winning the tournament all together.
come on for 50% of that fight they didn't engage, that means the crowd is only watching half a fight. The other 50% Dirrell engaged then ran.
Horrible horrible stuff, you're not straight if you want to watch one man chase another round the ring.
So basically you just said that one fighter only fought for half of the fight, but the other fought none of it, yet deserves the win? That is interesting logic there......
Change your ****ing name
I'm sorry, there has to be at least one intelligent person name inferno in this forum. Dirrell landed more clean shots than Froch but apparently, that doesn't matter to his nuthuggers. The nuthugging in this forum is bad, but you Froch fans are worse considering what happened in his last two fights.
he did not quit. i thought it was a lot of punishment he was taking. he was pretty exciting. Arreola vs Haye should be fun
What is so exciting about seeing a guy get his ass beat from start to finish? It just shows how far the American heavyweights have fallen over the years that the top guy was beaten so handily.
