boxing fans hope bad fights do poorly b/c if gives promoters, networks, etc incentive to produce more compelling match ups, if fights where one guy is going to clearly beat the other consistently do well, why would that fighter choose to step up his level of competition, and why would the networks make him? they wouldn't and we would keep getting fights with a star vs. a no hoper, simple as that
I think this is one of the best threads out there about floyd in some time and I agree with the premise to a certain degree...I think it's a myth most boxing fans believe that the way to beat mayweaher is go balls to the wall and forget about defense, just attack and swarm like castillo did for the most part, I believe a fighter needs to be just as focused on his defense as his offense to defeat mayweather...I would have loved to see a prime mayweather vs. a prime winky wright, I think that would be a great battle
One thing that always intrigues me is his opponents don't seem to be more inventive in their approach. They head hunt and he shoulder rolls. They try to bring a left to the body and he counters with the right.
I would forget about trying to land clean shots. I'd step back a bit and take what's easily available, or indeed just given.
1. The left bicep. He has no way of defending this. If you hit him in the arm for 5-6 rounds it will start to hurt, a lot.
2. He stands very side-on. I'd go just above the left hip.
As an orthodox fighter, I'd just use my left jab/hook to the bicep, and straight rights to the area just above the hip - even venturing towards the kidney area and test what the ref will allow.
And from there I would try to frustrate him. Head movement, keeping busy with those basic bits, and try and take him out of his comfort zone by winning rounds with activity whilst keeping out of range by just targeting the bits of his body that are nearest with straightforward in-out 1-2 hits.
Something tells me that I'm not the first guy/fighter to think this though.
As Iron Mike liked to say, we all have a plan until we get hit.
good points but I'd counter that floyd's body defense is severely underrated and if your main gameplan is hitting his arms for 5-6 rounds, he's going to win those 5-6 rounds and leave you seeking a KO to win, and floyd can't be KO'd, he's too smart and defensive oriented for that
Dude, you act like Peterson was imposing his will on Ortiz or something? Give me a break. Btw, the fact that Ortiz was trying to get a weight advantage is irrelevant: he was draining himself. Secondly, I'm sick of hearing about the Maidana fight. Ortiz was beating his ass most of that fight. Ortiz made the mistake of not using his superior boxing ability and took too many shots. He could easily have beaten Maidana. Also, Maidana has never been close to as threatened since then. Tell you what, Ortiz may not have had a title, but he sure as well was capable of hurting ANYONE at 140. No question about it.
peterson did impose his will on ortiz for the most part, in fact he was walking ortiz down most of the fight while ortiz rode around the ring on his bicycle, that being said it was a draw, ortiz won rds 1,3,4, and 10 with peterson pretty clearly winning the rest, 6-4 peterson minus 2 kd's equals a draw, worst performance i've ever seen from ortiz though, he looked leaps and bounds better in the berto fight
haha I think we all know what tony morgan was trying to imply, floyd's not gonna be fighting the same victor ortiz, hmm why do you think that tony? OSDT perhaps? he's doing everything but coming out and saying ortiz was juicing
Do u think so?I didnt take it like that,But could be true.Fcking sore loser
puto :bottle:
I'm pretty sure that's what he meant, he said it wouldn't be the same ortiz twice and than said he thought so for "personal reasons", that's how I took it anyways, I agree tho, sore loser, ortiz whooped berto fair and square
It was just an error on the screen with the scores flipped at certain points, lederman gave berto the first 3 rds and zaveck the 4th, meaning 39-37 berto, I personally had it 39-37 zaveck, but no surprise lederman favors the hbo hypejob and ineffective flurries (Devon Alexander-andres kotelnik all over again)
all articles like this are crap, i could easily write an article saying why mayweather would beat all these guys and no one could disprove either of us, besides all of these guys lost to guys less skilled than mayweather in one fight or another so why couldn't mayweather beat them on any given night?
sorry TS, the mayweather deception is a dumb video, didn't change my opinion one bit, i've watched enough boxing that i can score a fight at real speed, i don't need slow motion replays, mayweather won that fight easily
am i the only person in the world who thinks floyd won the first castillo fight by a wider margin than the second (besides the judges of course)??? i thought floyd won 9 rds the first fight and 8 the second, either way the only reason people say floyd lost the first castillo fight is b/c harold lederman scores ineffective aggression vs. floyd (just like the ricky hatton fight which he had extremely close unlike the real judges who had it a floyd blowout)...please keep hating tho all you pactards b/c i can't wait to drop 5 figures on floyd when pacman finally steps up to the plate and the odds will prolly be close, easy work, easy money
lol you guys complain so much about judges but THANK GOD no one on this site is a judge...9-3 or 10-2 floyd, complete domination...sorry i don't give points for ineffective aggression and blocked punches but jlc couldn't find floyd the entire fight...this fight was almost exactly the same as the hatton fight and dumbasses like the previous posters and harold lederman thought that fight was close when it was stopped yet the real judges and me had it 8-1 floyd...same as the jlc fight, haters say jlc won but it wasn't even a close fight
Am I the only one who thinks floyd dominated jlc in their first fight and the judges cards were pretty accurate?? (i had it 9-3 floyd 116-110 w/ the deductions) i also thought their 2nd fight was closer and had floyd winning only 7 or 8 rds...i had pac winning the first fight with jmm by 1 pt and losing their second one by 3 just to go full circle
It would be one of the biggest upsets EVER for me, because I think he's going to throw the fight. No WAY he comes to fight against Manny. No way. It's just not going to happen. Too much money to be made with Manny Pacquiao right now.
this talk is crazy...i think pacquiao will easily beat marg as well, but let's be real here, marg is a 3.5 to 1 underdog in this fight...comparing this to buster-tyson as others have done is insanity...any hw other than haye beating one of the klitschko's would be a much bigger upset
That would almost make sense in a sport such as soccer (football), but not in boxing. I agree, I do not quite understand what he means by that.
kicking a soccer ball is a perfect point...everyone is either left or right footed as well as left or right handed...some people are left handed/right footed and vice-versa...cotto's left footed and left handed but fights out of a righty style
cotto's a southpaw turned orthodox which means he's not only left handed but left footed as well...while it's rather easy to turn the other way and fight right handed, it's a lot harder to fight right footed as well, and cotto does not as he uses his left foot as his lead...this is why i hate turning fighters stances b/c it ruins their footork and causes them to get caught flatfooted and take more punishment than necessary a la miguel cotto
Floyd suppose to be real 154 champion and he want none of 154 pounder Martinez, instead he goes after 140 pounder Ortiz
Haha so you're going to criticize Floyd for fighting a so called 140 pounder even though he's a champ at 147, but PAC gets no criticism for fighting a 135 pounder who Floyd alread beat 12-0 at welterweight, that's pactard logic for ya
Anyone notice how all the fighters Floyd supposedly ducks are top rank fighters? Bob arum has his fighters duck Floyd, Floyd destroys cotto, marg, pacman, etc
haha margarito would stand no chance against floyd. even if he had his favorite gloves on (the loaded kind), funny to see people compare this to castillo, they are two completely different fighters, not to mention i had floyd comfortably winning both fights against castillo, only pactards and people that score ineffective aggression think JLC got robbed in the first fight, i actually thought the 2nd fight was closer than the first, margarito's a punching bag and floyd would not lose a round to him unless he took one off
people make way too big of a deal about resumes...floyd beat all comers at 130-135 and then went for the big money fights at the higher weight classes...so what if cotto beats all of floyd's opponents ar 40-47, floyd would still destroy him and conversely floyd beats all of cotto's opponents at 140-147 including the 2 cotto lost to, margarito and pacman
He lost to Orlando Salido on the Mayweather-Baldomir undercard back in Nov '06. Even though it was changed to a NC it still doesn't look pretty good. I am a huge fan of Guerrero and want him to get that fight against Khan.
he got whooped by salido and that should not be a no contest because salido passed a blood test the next day...also who has he beat?? he outboxed the limited katsidis, but who else? a washed up casamayor? klassen? litzau? lol don't make me laugh...granted he looked excellent against katsidis but katsidis is tailor made for his style, remember styles make fights, i think khan beats him fairly easily if the fight happens
anyone remember one of floyd's sparring partners talking about how floyd was sparring 2 days before his fight against mosley, and he looked fine, yet pacman went running 2 days before the fight and that's why he looked horrible...complete bs
nice video but floyd obviously lied when he said he's never heard of pacquiao, even after his 20 lb leap, he was cheering for him in the front row versus erik morales...these fighthype people definitely need a reporter that can ask a few better questions, but either way floyd still dominates pac-man whenever the fight goes down
There's a clear pattern when the "hometown" fighter (promotionally or locationally) is usually the one benefiting from the "incompetence" of the judges.
There have been robberies before and always have been, but recently there has not been a single boxing weekend without a disgraceful decision. It's as if they do not care about the appearances anymore.
One factor is that we just don't see enough decisive finishes anymore. The quote about not leaving it in the hands of the judges rings more true now than ever before. You have to go into a fight with the mindset of knocking your opponent out, and even that may not be enough (Maccarinelli-McPhilbin).
It has nothing to do with hometown fighters, I doubt judges really care about that crap, it's about making sure the A-side of the fight wins while the B-side who isn't as well known or not as big of a draw (Lara, Abril, campillo, Molina, Marquez vs the PAC man, kotelnik vs Alexander, etc.)
i'd say rematch berto, if berto wants it, take his ibf strap and fight these guys like khan who will be moving up in weight in the near future, i'd be interested in vic vs. pac as well, think pac takes it no doubt, but it'd be a good scrap
