His last two fights he's fought the number 1 and #2 ranked fighter in the division. That should get props, but he still should have fought Cotto before he lost to Margarito. Margarito was undeserving at the time, but Cotto had an awesome resume. He should have fought Cotto.
He still needs to fight Pacquiao after this though. He can get credit for fighting Ortiz, but there still needs to be Pacquiao on his resume.
This poster sums it up best.
Floyd has fought top competition in his last fights, the only problem is that he retired precisely when the 147 division was blazing. At the very least he fought Mosley.
I honestly think a lot of hate Floyd gets is purely from people wanting to see him fight Pacquiao, and the reason as to why they get mad is because he has skills, otherwise they wouldn't complain about how bad of a mismatch these fights are.
I can't complain about Victor Ortiz, though. Ortiz is a young, southpaw, with power, and has certainly redeemed himself in his performance against Andre Berto. He's also Mexican which will greatly boost sales.
If anyone wants to lynch me for saying it, go ahead. Victor Ortiz (at this stage) is a better opponent for Mayweather than Mosley, Margarito, or Clottey was for Pacquiao. The last time Pacquiao was in a credible fight with someone who actually deserved to be there in with him and actually put up some kind of resistance was Cotto back in 2009. I sincerely hope JMM will do the same, and I believe so too.
Once again, we have another situation where boxing fans will be watching, and waiting, to see if one of these two megastars falls apart in each of their fights.
I'd say Ortiz has the better chance of an upset, though but I could be wrong.
I get what your saying but he still didn't fight Cotto or Margarito in their primes. I'm not saying he's not a great fighter, I'm just saying his legacy could be 10x better if he could have beat them. I personally think they both would have given him hell like Chavez did so he was smart and slick to avoid em.
lol
Floyd made Chavez his personal speed bag bro.

If 'hell' is what Jesus Chavez gave Mayweather then I want to see Heaven.
Hatton and Marquez weren't top WWs. Their P4P rankings aren't really relevant. Baldomir was an acceptable fight as he was the lineal champ, but it wasn't a tough opponent. Other than that though, Floyd has fought top WWs and his resume is often unfairly criticized.
Floyd fights the best ..pac fights people after they been beaten fu** that little big headed scared roid loving cheating cherry picking midget hsahsahsahas

You spoke too soon larry, you should have waited until there were threads all over NSB about how Ortiz is a weak chinned, weak hearted b-class fighter who doesn't deserve the opportunity...until he stepped in the ring against Pac of course.
You know, the Mosley/DLH/Hatton syndrome.
There all haters. Floyd fought JMM out of retirement with no tuneup fight when JMM was ranked #2 in p4p. He fought Mosely when Mosely KO'd Margicheato and looked impresive. He now is fighting Ortiz when Ortiz just beat the fighter miss pacman was scared to fight and is doing it coming off more then a year layoff. Miss pacman is fighting all these cans while floyd is fighting guys who are looking impressive in there fights coming off wins. Manny is a joke IMO by not fighting Ortiz. Ortiz looked good in the Berto fight, he's an experienced figher, he's young, and has alota buzz around his name after beating Berto so why didn't Manny take that fight, there's no excuse IMO.
Anyone notice how all the fighters Floyd supposedly ducks are top rank fighters? Bob arum has his fighters duck Floyd, Floyd destroys cotto, marg, pacman, etc
It's hottest??? He's fighting when the division is STILL HOT!!! Ortiz, Braldey and Berto are there.
When Floyd retired last year after Shane most of these dudes couldn't be mentioned in the same sentence with Mayweather or Pacquiao.
I mean when he retired in 2007.
The division is a ghost town compared to then.
Larry, Floyd "retired" when the division was at its hottest with several challengers waiting for him.
Surely you can see the division isnt what it once was.

Larry I'm sure I read you argue Berto/Ortiz wasn't domination and you called it a war etc.
Anyway, you know who people wanted Floyd to fight.
Cotto, Margarito, Pacquiao...
he's fought none of them......
and after he beats Ortiz he's going to disappear until his money runs out again.
Lol, people want Ricky Hatton to come back and he's to busy sniffing coke!! Your ideal is trash.
Hatton wasn't a Top 5 P4P when Mayweather fought him.
But as for the 'Mayweather hasn't fought top welterweights' I'm sure that can be put to bed by now.
