I made a similar post regarding the difference in how Pac and May are treated on their respective PTI visits. They talk over Floyd and lambast him about his fight choices and about fighting Pac. Yet when Pac is on there they talk about Philipino congress (like it matters to American sports fans), his "Bieber" like hairstyle, and about how Floyd don't want to fight him. It's slanted and bogus.
It wouldnt be as big of a mismatch as most of you suggest. SRL wasn't that great at mid fight adjustments. I think at 40 and below Floyd win and 47 and up is SRL.
Cotto is still shot. His performance didn't impress me. Yuri didn't have enough pop in his punches to raise that doubt in Cotto's head. I promise the next time Cotto gets cracked, he'll revert back to being a shell of his former self.
Pac and Floyd havent fought, so how can u say its common sense he is a hypejob?
Based on ur prediction of a fight which hasnt happened?
Thats not common sense.
I also believe Floyd could shut out Manny, but that doesnt mean he is hype. Im basing that on his achievements so far in his career to date.
IMO
Over rated is when a fighter has genuine success, but is believed to be greater than his achievements show.
Over hyped is the same.
But hype job, is when they are nothing but hype. Not great at all. Nothing special.
Very few can do what Pac has done. If he is simply fighting weak opponents in many weight divisions, why arent loads of fighters doing that?
Because they cant.
Therefore Pac is special.
Thats all im arguing. Not that Pac is an ATG, fighter of the decade, better than Floyd or whatever. But that when compared to almost every other fighter, is indeed special.
When I said common sense, I'm speaking in terms of skill set. Take away the names, take away the personality, and just base it off of what you know about boxing and what you deem as distinguishable advantages, and I'm sure most people would walk away with the thought that Floyd's skill set is better than Manny's. This isn't based off of a fight that hasn't taken place. Just strictly off of what I know about boxing. Which just happen to be my personal opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.
And regards to Manny moving up in weight being his crowning jewel, I give him props on that. But it's limited. We're in an era where guys are walking around at 180 but fighting at 140. It's known that Pac didn't stay where he was because he could no longer make the weight. He was just another guy walking around 20 pounds more than his fighting weight at the time he was fighting in the lower weights. I'm not too impressed with him now fighting guys at his regular weight. This is where he belongs. I cringe when people are still playing the little guy card with Manny.
I dont see how a man who has moved up so many divisions to fight the best is a hype job.
Very few fighters ever have come close to doing what he has.
U could argue he is over rated and isnt nearly a p4p ATG. But to say he is a hype job is ridiculous.
A hype job is ranked very highly without ever really backing it up. Pac has fought great competition, and won most in style.
It isnt about his skill set. Its about his accomplishments.
If Pac is a hype job, what does that make every other fighter?
The only reason I say he's a hype job is solely based on the use of my own common sense. I've witnessed him snatch belts from Diaz and Cotto (at a catch weight). I understand, as a fighter you're a product of your era. If those guys are the champ and you beat them, congrats. I have the same qualms about the belt Floyd snatched from Baldomir. On paper, yes Baldomir was a champ, but common sense tells me there were better fighters in the division than he was. So I don't put a lot of stock into how many belts a figther has. Boxing is hit and not be hit. If placed in the ring together, I believe based on their skill set that Floyd is miles ahead of Pac and would ultimately embarrass the kid. Thus creating the hype. There is no way the Fighter of the Decade could be put in a fight with someone and potentially get wiped out. And outside of a puncher's chance, many believe that would be the most likely scenario.
I think he does watch film. One of the Laws of Power is to make your work seem effortless. Never reveal the hard work portion of whatever you're doing. That's why his sparring is never filmed. Judging by those 24/7's and what Floyd says, you would think he spent his whole training camp jumping rope, pad work with Roger, shopping, gambling, roller skating, etc.
For the entire decade, champion only for 7 years. Even Ivan Calderon was a longer Champ than Floyd.....I could name a few other fighters who was longer if that is the basis of your fighter of the decade.
Floyd won his first world title against Genero in, I believe '98 or '99. That "0" on the right side of that hyphen suggests he has yet to be defeated as a world champion.
despite being filipino, floyd is my idol in the ring str8 up. regarding this fighter of the decade award, to me there's no doubt that BWAA has picked the right person. what pac accomplished for his size is pure magic. win or loose vs floyd, it doesn't change what he has already accomplished.
I'm not disputing the Fighter of the Year. Hell, if it was the Fighter of the past couple of years I wouldn't have a gripe about it. But Decade?? You can't totally discount the earlier part of the decade based on 3 fights (Oscar, Hatton, and Cotto) especially when Floyd beat 2 out of the 3 before him. Think about this upcoming generations boxing heros. Oscar, Tito, Roy, Shane, Marquez, Kostya, Hatton, Bernard, etc. And even the new breed like Pac, Devon, etc. While all of them came and went or rose from obscurity to become champions, one constant remains. Floyd has been a world champion the entire time. That amounts as a bigger accomplishment than stringing together 3 great wins.
I don't agree wholeheartedly with the article, but it's sprinkled with some truth. Pac is a hype job. And there's nothing really wrong with that either. He's exciting to watch. And that's about where the props stop for me. I'm a fan of boxing skill set. And it's clear that his skill set isn't on par with Floyd's by a long shot. But this is boxing, and he has the same chance that the other 40 opponents had against Floyd.....and that's just a puncher's chance.
I'm just wondering how the BWAA, and all these other organizations are going to feel if Pac is downright embarrassed by a superior boxer. Especially if said boxer credentials warranted just as much, if not more, recognition throughout the decade.
True there are many more divisions now. But still very few fighters are capable winning titles at so many weights. Therefore what he has done is remarkable. And he is no hype job.
Like i said, u can say the wins are over rated, but if someone states as FACT, Pacs opponents all lost their previous fights, then they are wrong.
I believe Floyd would beat him.
I think JMM beat him twice.
Im not saying Pac is the fighter of the decade.
Im saying he isnt just some hype job.
That is utterly stupid.
I think its objective to look at his achievements as very very good.
You're splitting hairs. Overrated. Hypejob. All in the same family. When your accomplishments are clearly not up to par, yet are being flaunted as the next coming of Ray Robinson, then there is a level of hype surrounding that individual. In my original post I stated that I don't care if he is a hype job. I enjoy him. But I know how to put what I'm witnessing into the proper context. I know the real deal when I see one. He is not the real deal.
Manny is lightweight fighting way over his natural weight class. Floyd is a 100% true welterweight.
It's really not that difficult to rationalize.
Pac's been fighting at this weight about the same amount of time Floyd had when he was beating Zab and Baldomir and everyone was jumping on him for not fighting the "bigger" more "dangerous" welterweights. Not to mention, Floyd is not Andre Berto. He's not a 160 pounder cutting down to 147. He came up in weight too.
Glad to hear this news.....sad to see Ali peddled around like a two bit whore. I bet most of those teens that know Ali, only know the image of the shaking old man who raises his hand or throw a slow jab when announced at events or on tv. Ali's importance in American history is being distorted and a lot of people love Ali just because they're supposed to because society puts forth the image that he's the lovable Parkinson stricken ex fighter who said funny quotes. Enough of my rant.....much props Ali!
And this is how it starts......someone in Martinez camp said they were option #2, people who want to see Floyd lose start nitpicking the advantages Martinez have over Floyd and talk themselves into thinking this is the guy, Floyd "maybe" doesn't fight him, then we'll have the new guy who wasn't on the scene 3 years ago now holding the key to legitimize Floyd's legacy.
Here we go again with theTop Rank Manny Pacquiao bull shit. The fight fell through the first time because Manny Pacquiao agreed to his own terms which was a 24 day cut off not a 14 day off. Round 2 of negotiations Manny Pacquiao and his brainless crew have been flooding the Media with this "im agreeing to March 13 terms to call bluff". Stop it please. The whole time all the could talk about was clottey, and BAM he fought CLOTTEY and made FLoyd look like a dodger.
Round 2 and its back to the same shit different TOILET. Manny Pacquiao has "agreed to all of Mayweathers terms"...what terms? Mayweather promotions wasnt even negotiating the fight at this moment, it has been GBP & Top rank and they dont run floyd. FLoyd is his own boss and he is on vacation. Now they throw a time limit on it and stress COTTO II and Margarito. *Notice how Arum keeps saying "Floyd may want to take the rest of the year off, which is fine cuz we can try again next year"??? WTF does the mean?
I'm riding with Floyd......but this is a bad argument!
The point is we wont know until they get in the ring. I think Manny has the power to knock out just about anyone at 147, and Floyd was wobbled in the Mosley fight. I just think if it goes past 5 without Mayweather significantly hurt, he'll adjust to Manny and beat him down.[/QUOTE
It's funny to keep hearing people harp on him being wobbled by Shane. This guys career spans over a decade and one punch is being used as the standard bearer that there's a chance he may get knocked out. Shane has one of the better ko % in his wins in boxing and he couldn't drop Floyd. I'm not saying Floyd has granite for a chin, but the notion that a guy that hasn't been legitimatly dropped his entire career is subseptible to being ko'd within 5 is laughable.
Who coined the phrase "Safety First" and applied it to Floyd's style? First off, I don't think there's an active fighter that has more lineal champions on his resume than Floyd. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly accept that. So, I don't get how his opposition can be clowned. Like Roy said....Y'all Must've Forgot...."they say I ain't fought nobody, I just make 'em look like nobody." They're all threats and formidable until Floyd make them all look the same. Stop hating.
Secondly, the most confusing thing of all his how people call his fighting style "cowardly". You know how brave you have to be to rely on tucking your chin and turning your shoulder while your opponent is trying to knock your head off. The trust this style on defense is one thing, but to do it as a counter puncher, thus keeping your eyes open (unlike the head first guys that close there eyes ala Cotto, Pac, and Shane). Watch how he counter jabs and witness his mastery of simple things in the ring like range, position, punch setup, etc. The jabs are mere inches away from his face and he doesn't get hit, but lands counter rights all night long.
I can do without some of his antics as I get older because I have kids and I've gotten more conservative to such things as language and so on. But I'm a fan of boxing, not boxers. It's mindboggling how little respect he gets on here for his sheer boxing ability and skill set.
waiting for flomos to read up on tax brackets (like they did with drug testing procedures) to defend this move...
j/k :D
There's no beef with this decision. Sorta how Pac ( I believe it was for the Hatton fight ) moved his training camp outta the States because of some bogus rule about immigrants working x amount of days within our borders before they are subjected to some astronomical tax figure. I want the fight, but I understand it's a business too. If this is true I might dissapear from here for awhile cause both sides (Manny and Floyd fans) will bicker back and forth over local tax codes and who's ducking who.
martinez and pwill are too big for pac.
bradley got a date w/ alexander. both those guys should clean out 140 lbs before they step up.
JCC jr. is trained by roach. those two will never fight.
Mosley at least needs to win another fight to prove he isn't shot before he can get a shot at Pac.
Marquez gotta prove he can hang at 140 first. he can't. he's a lightweight and I don't wanna see it if JMM gotta come all the way up to 147.
the only guy, and the guy I wanted pac to fight, is berto.
I hate to do it but.....why are these two TOO big for Pac, but these are the very same opponents that people say Floyd is ducking? I could've sworn both Pac and Floyd were 147 and claiming to be the very best....just wanna know why they have different standards of greatness?? No diss to you, but I see it alot. People are quick to say Pac is the greatest, but have lower standards for the FOTD than they have for Floyd.
Get your reading glasses ready.....nothing but subtitles! This 24/7 won't suck because any true fan jumps at the chance to see behind the scenes footage of a boxer getting ready to put his life on the line. It kills me when I hear people claim that the show was boring, stale, or "I won't watch it." Makes me wonder if they only watch fights others tell them will be good.
I like Larry because I don't take him or Lampley serious. They're fun to listen to sometimes and I think Lampley does a great job of moving the fight and dialogues along for the most part. Yesterday's performance by that crew sucked though. Just filled with so much hate. Both Haye and Wlad wrote checks that neither one of their performances cashed. Yet, it seemed like HBO put the onus on the guy that was 4" shorter and 30lbs lighter to deliver. They spent so much of the telecast talking about what Haye wasn't doing that you barely heard them talk about what Wlad WAS doing. The only assessment I can take away from the fight is that it's alot harder to take advantage of the visible weaknesses in Wlad's game once you're in there with him. Haye marked him up and rocked him in the 12th, so the performance wasn't a complete embarrassment as they verbalized. Haye just wasn't the man to capitalize on Wlad's flaws. 'Nuff said. If anything, the narrative of how Wlad looked supremely pedestrian against a guy looking for one shot, with a suspect chin, and was 4" and 30lb his junior needs to be getting more discussion. But, the victor writes the story, so kudos for the win, Wlad. I would just like to see Larry, and the rest of the boxing media, be a little more unbiased in their "calling" or "reporting" of a fight.
But no...how can one santioning body for another champ from another santioning body to fight?
I'm speaking from the standpoint that with each being the champ, it would thus make each other the de facto #1 contender to the others belt.
If anyone wonders why people deem Pac fans as delusional...just look at how many pages a thread stating "Pac is more accurate than Floyd" has gone. This should have gotten the obligatory "arguing for argument sakes" 2 pages and vanished in the bowels of this site. 39 pages and counting??? Terrible. And most of these guys claim they're boxing fans....
put up a midnight deadline larry...just like what arum did to floyd. and then invite all flomos for the countdown vigil.
I'm glad you realize how pointless that fake tactic was.....unless it was legit when Arum did it during the "2nd negotiations", but now a point of fodder when making a joke to a poster on a boxing forum?? Oh geez...I can't keep up with the flip flopping.
Perhaps you should consider the possibility that some of us know exactly what Haye and his camp are doing and why, but still disagree with it.
I think that accusing Manny Steward of illegally wrapping someone's hands in a way that can increase the risk of serious injury in what is an already very dangerous sport is going too far.
Claiming that you saw someone break the law and attempting to ruin a reputation that they have earned with several decades of hard work and sacrifice is out of line, the fact that it's being done to try and hype a fight and get under someone's skin doesn't make this Fitzpatrick guy any less of a cunt.
By the way, comparing Haye's critics to Mayweather-Pacquiao fans is pretty wide of the mark, considering that those two particular camps and fanbases seem to have so much in common with Haye's approach of mudslinging and idiocy.
And I say all of this as someone who has never been a Wlad fan and who isn't cheering for or against either of them at the weekend.
Defamation suit in 3...2...1....
Get real and take the skirt off. Now gamesmanship, trash talking, baiting, etc has a limit? I bet this new generation of Pac...I mean boxing fans, would want Riddick Bowe arrested for assault for stealing on Larry Donald during a press conference.
You do know he gets tested before and after every fight right?
You do know that Floyd refused to show up when the judge asked him to present evidence as to him being on PED right?
I know you know very little about criminal justice and court proceeding so maybe instead of spending all your time in jail or on Boxingscene you should read a fukking book.
You know very little about criminal justice and court proceedings as well. Floyd failed to appear for a deposition. That's nothing more than a recorded Q&A session with the lawyers present. It's neither a court proceeding or a chance to present any evidence. But I digress.
B-Hop overstaying his welcome. He got hit quite a bit in his last two fights. I think this is the typical "Bernard does enough to lose the fight but also enough to complain about the outcome". I think Chad has enough to close the gap in the experience department. Close but exciting fight.
i said he admitted to doing steroids. you called me a dummy & said he didnt admit to doing them, then in the next sentence you say he admitted years later.
dumbass & dazed much?
its was quite obvious that mcgwire was juicing as there was plenty of circumstantial evidence against big mac during the homerun chase & there's been lots talk against mcgwire his whole career & jose canseco, someone who is known in the game as a roider; accusing mark mcgwire.
again, where's the evidence against pac?
Circumstancial evidence? Is that the card you're going to play in regards to the Bonds, Marion Jones, McGwire's, and Clemens of the world but ignore it when it comes to Pac? Just a few years ago I witnessed this guy floor JMM multiple times in the first with clean hard shots and they simply had the result of a flash knockdown. Fast forward a few years later, and this same guy disconnects Cotto from his senses with one punch. Or maybe the graphic HBO displayed prior to the Margarito fight how Pac's output INCREASES with added weight over the last few years. If that's not enough circumstancial evidence for you...take into account what you know about the history of boxing (which may be asking too much of you). The greatest athletes this game has ever seen...from the SRL, RJJ, Pernell, etc...they all compromised something when they went up in weight. Except the guy who used to get dropped on one shot body blows, huh? How about we just simply take the physics route. Look around. You see those other guys that fought in those "exciting" round robin Barrerra-Morales-Marquez-Pac square dances perform now? Do you see any other fighter on the plus side of 50 fights (50 training camps included) and over 30 years old throwing more punches per fight with more power than at any time in their careers?
But hey...what do we know. He's never tested positive. And here I thought Pac using 112 different excuses was enough to raise an eyebrow...but that's my fault for selling his fans short.
Pacquiao is already disappointed in Floyd for ducking the court date which Floyd was to prove that PAC was on peds.
Another clown who clearly doesn't know what a deposition is. Just give it up.
Lupe Fiasco calls the POTUS a terrorist...he gets an invite to a talk show to discuss his reasoning. Pac get called out for possible PED usage...they hand out supoena's for court proceedings. I wish people realized how petty this all is. Just take the test or don't even bother talking about fighting the guy anymore.
