Pascal complained loudly about the stoppage in the first fight - he said nothing at all about the stoppage in the second fight.
In retrospect, the second fight should never have happened. Pascal has to set his sights on fringe contender types and stay away from P4P fighters.
Let's not have short term memories here. Hopkins at the time being a golden boy fighter was fighting on showtime. When Stevenson moves to showtime the logical big fight for him on that network was Hopkins. Hopkins himself said he waited and waited on Stevenson. Said days turned into weeks and eventually he realized Stecenson had no interest in the fight. He then moved to Kovalev who also made an offer and HBO was willing to accept.
This comes directly from Hopkins.
And your assessment hat Hopkins chose to Avoid Stevenson is beyond ridiculous. When has BHOP ever been afraid.
I wouldn't say afraid, but at his age you pick your shots a little more carefully, which he did.
Also, Hopkins is a slick, self-serving, spin artist. He would have made a good lawyer.
Exactly.
Just ask Hopkins about negotiating with Stevenson. He knows first hand, this guy is not serious, which is why he said last night Stevenson is not serious and the fight to be made is Ward vs Kovalev.
Hopkins chose to fight Kovalev over Stephenson. He said that Kov was robotic and that he could exploit that. In retrospect he was wrong, and likely would have lost to Stephenson as well, but he definitely chose to fight Kov and avoid Stephenson.
I think both fighters genuinely want the fight. It's a big payday. It's a unification for all the belts. Stevenson is the lineal champion. Kov is undefeated. Both are punchers. Both are confident. It would be a great fight. Way better than a clinch-and-tie-up festival with Andre Ward.
Bottom line, HBO is holding a grudge. Behind the scenes boxing politics strikes again.
Great fight. Wasn't there talk of Lemieux vs Quinlan?

Bizier was busier and fought with real desperation.
Yes, he lost to Jo Jo Dan but will do much better against Brook (than Dan did) and likely go the distance, still lose but go the distance.
Styles make fights.
The referee for this fight is Marlon Wright. The same guy who ref'd Bute-Andrade 1.
Now that makes things a little more interesting.

I thought something was wrong, and Dan Raphael mentioned this on Epix, that Bute entered the ring to some random music, and not his usual "Where The Streets Have No Name".
I thought of it a bad omen.
Kinda like Ricky Hatton abandoning "Blue Moon" when entering the ring against Floyd Mayweather.
Thing is, for a guy with a reputation as a slick boxer, every time Bute got hit, he froze, which allowed Froch to tee off.
I think, for all of Bute's confidence, mentally, he was just never in it.

A boxing town is a place that has cards, that not only attract large crowds, but where you can feel a tangible buzz in the arena and leading up to the fight.

Well, I was going to start a poll called, "Who is the blindest poster who doesn't understand that ideas and opinions evolve and change from time to time", but there were not enough options to choose from:
a) LFC
b) nobody else
May I ask why you voted for Joe Cooper?
I voted for Cooper because he struck me as being blatantly biased instead of just incompetent.
Pushing is technically an infraction, but it's the least serious infraction a boxer can be guilty of, some pushing off is normal and allowable, and I've never seen a point deducted for it ever before, not to mention in a very close, championship fight,
Then he deducted a second point for the same thing?
Why didn't he deduct a point from Peterson for coming in with his head? That's a more serious infraction and he was doing it all night.
It was a very technical fight but not necessarily boring. All depends on your perspective.
Pier Cote provided fireworks in the prelim. He's a kid to watch.
