Floyd has fought at the full 154 lb limit before, there was NO REASON for the catchweight other than he got an advantage, that he did not need. The result of the fight became obsolete once he gave himself the advantage
Somehow I dont think that Floyds Peers or experts in the field of boxing think the way you do. But hey you can have your opinion. At the end of the day when a fighter says he got his A$$ beat as Canelo stated I think only the casual fan is concerned about the catch weight!
Really
Dirrell......Runner with no heart
Pascal......Skill Level of a mole
Kessler...........OLD fighter and in his prime still wasnt all that great!!!
Abraham............another JOKE!!!
He eeked out a decision against Kessler, who is all but SHOT and you want to give him credit for that? Thats what your hanging your hat on..........come on i appreciate him for what he is, and I even like the heart he displays as a fighter........but he is far from being a P4P top 10 member IMHO!
Froch's main reason for being in P4P lists is his resume. Just shut up now you're being stupid. His resume is one of the best currently.
Do you not understand what "cleaned the division out except Ward" means. He's thinking of fighting other fighters from other divisions because he has nothing else to do.
Fighting tomato cans does not mean cleaning out the division!!! He is the second best fighter in a division that is one of the weakest in Boxing. You said the key word "EXCEPT"!!!
Anybody on that list elite? So in a nutshell he is the same as GGG accept GGG has yet to get beat! So where does this put Froch.............I would say below GGG!
GGG has a tremendous amount more complete skill level the Froch........now does he have heart like Froch...........that remains to be seen. Carl Froch is an over achiever for sure, but he isnt an elite fighter he is an A rated fighter for sure, but IMHO he doesnt even belong on the P4P list!
I do agree with the majority of your statements I dont believe Cotto was fighter the night he fought May vs Canelo though. May showed some signs of weakness against Cotto that had not been seen before, you have to credit HIM for making the adjustments in his game from that point forward.
Canelo had no chance accept a punchers chance going in to this fight............and he knew it. He is out of position way to often when throwing those big punches.............this stopped him from going after Floyd. He was being conservative for a good reason and him and his team KNEW they could not press like Cotto did because Canelo has a real balance/Footwork problem Just watch the Trout fight and you will see it.
If Cotto ever fought Canelo, Canelo destroys Cotto inside of 3 to 4 rounds because Cotto can not make Canelo pay for his short coming like Floyd can!
Who has GGG even beat?
Like Froch his resume isnt all that impressive, I even will go on record to say that Froch has a better resume then GGG. But here is the thing......Speed, Power, Footwork, and all around Boxing skills GGG is hands down a better fighter then Froch!
Has he been tested yet.........Nope, and we can debate this all day long...but here is the think Carl Froch like many UK fighter............pretty much Suck!
Really?
I love B-Hop for what he has done, but there is a point and time when you just have to STFU! Floyd isnt going to fight anyone at 160...............to fight at 160 lbs he has to add 10 lbs of muscle mass...........thats going to change him physically in every dept.............yeah............................ no!
All I will say is is he deserving of a P4P..............thats not for me to decide. What I do know is that if he ever fought Froch..............you might as well reserve a hospital bed at the local hospital for Froch because that Jaw will get broken.
Kind of irrelevant but I will play, Roy was the better athlete, Floyd was the better all around boxer.
For the person who said Floyd hand picked his foe, anf that Floyds resume isnt as good as Roy's..................Geez dude go read both of these fighters resume's PLEASE.
Roy is in my the top 10 favorite fighters ever............but he fought a lot of bumbs along the way...............there just wasnt anyone. This was the start of the end for Roy................should have never gone up in weight that far.
Easy Answer.....................he already beat the man!
Floyd has gotten better with age, Oscar fell off with age!
Floyd, Floyd, Floyd!!!
Love him or hate him the man is Great!
No he isnt shot, but he isnt a elite fighter anymore either, his best days are looooong gone. Comparing 1 fighter vs another vs another isnt a reflection of ones status in the fighting game.
Canelo isnt hyped either, he is a very talented kid who ran into the best fighter I have seen sense Roy Jones in his prime " Only Better "! Canelo was out matched and should never have taken that fight at anytime in his life................Floyd beat him handily last night, would beat him handily in 1 yrs, 2 yrs even 3 yrs from now.
Back to Cotto styles make fights, and Cotto was a better match-up then Alvarez was but if those two fought I pick Canelo easily............he is too big and too strong for Cotto! Cotto is a welterweight that moved up because the div was owned, dominated by Money!
Because of the body work that Alvarez did I would go with Alvarez, but I ironically watched both fights again last night and I gave each of them 3 rds.....................however Alvarez had a better defense the Guerrero.
Oh Boy
You truly have to love America...............one of the few places still left on earth where stupid people have the ability to publicly Say Stupid ***** and get away with it. Lets not confuse Cowardly with Intelligence! If there is enough money in it, and there is a chance of a win..............I think Floyd fights ANYONE within 15 - 20 lbs of his weight class.
I think if Pac beats Rios handily then it might happen........however I think Rios looses but it wont be a dominating fight by Pacman. It really wont matter if Pac fought Floyd anyways..............Floyd destroys Pacman.
Manny is out of position a lot, he hasnt fought anyone to make him pay the ultimate price other then JMM. What do you think is going to happen to Manny when the best counter puncher of all time pot shots him all night long?
Come on guys this fight back in 09 - 10 maybe was a split for Floyd, Manny was on a terror and had all the confidence in the world, but now Its all Floyd 9 rd to 3.
P.S. Floyd DOES NOT need Manny for his Legacy, that is pretty much set already. As good as Manny was he will never be mentioned for the GOAT and Floyd already is!
Obviously when you have that much money and are comfortable in your own skin and dont give damn what anyone thinks you can rock that outfit.
P.S. the man is RICH and you boys are not, do you really think he gives a DAMN what you or I think? Would I rock that..................NO, but at the end of the day I dont have a billion dollars either.
Depends on the criteria!
I tend to break things down more then what is mentioned here. I could never many pick many boxers of the past............main reason not a lot of video footage to go off of.
SRR was a great fighter but had too many loses IMHO to be the Best ever. Ali was in the same boat. I go off of Skills #1 this is by far the most important criteria in my book. Then the resume followed by the record.
Hands down with no real competition its Floyd.
The perception of Fighting and boxing somehow gets mixed up..........a lot!
This is a funny thread!!!
JMM is a DAMN good fighter who was getting his aZZ handed to him him when he shocked the world. That win was his greatest victory and he should be commended for landing that punch. However 1 blast and 1 KO over Pacman does not deserve to be spoken about with Floyd Mayweather.
There is NO part of my being that thinks that Floyd Mayweather is afraid to fight Pac.................not one. Now you all can jump on that train and ride it as long as you want, my personal belief is Floyd new there was a chance for a loss...........WONT deny this one bit, and being he is Floyd that arrogant being he is and demanded certain things from Manny and that IDIOT Bob Arum to ensure that if he did take the risk he was #1 going to be rewarded and #2 that the playing field was even...............just like he made, Shane, Ortiz, Cotto, Canelo who all had no problems with the testing. But somehow in all the minds out there in Boxing land certain people want to say that Floyd was scared to fight Manny!
THAT IS EVEN FUNNIER!!!
I didnt see the animal side of Floyd at all in any of his fights, the only thing I ever see is a surgeon slicing and dicing up his foe. What cracks me up is the statement Floyd is a defensive fighter, is going forward peppering Canelo, Guerrero a defensive type fighter.
Watch his fights boys, going forward, peppering your opponent making them defensive isnt a defensive fighter. Floyd is so damn good and smart that he does not use combinations aside of an occasional 3 punch combo to keep himself from be caught. That isnt defensive.............that is being the best boxer out there who knows how to WIN!!!
What is greater mean?
JMM and Pac are very good fighters, JMM jacked up Pac while getting his Butt kicked for most of the fight. These 2 match up well against each other and while 1 has a KO over the other the other has knock down the other so many times I cant remember the count.
So no I wouldnt say JMM is greater I wouldnt call either of them GREAT. Both of them are very good and skill wise JMM is better, determination and a combo of being powerful and having a very odd style give Manny his edge over others. I call them equal!
Basically if Floyd fights a guy with experience you say he's "shot" and if he fights a guy with youth you say he's "inexperienced." When Sugar Ray Leonard fought Hearns and Duran he was about the age Canelo is now and Canelo has more fights! Stop making excuses and give the man his just do.
They cant do that, that would require rational thinking and wisdom! Come on now one always has to disrespect the guy that wins all the time. I hated Michael Jordan............couldnt stand the man and I wanted him to loose BADLY.........but at the end of the day I still respected everything that he did on the floor. But these guys.................they just find every excuse in the book! It truly is remarkable!
hold up....you dont consider him a great...but say he should be top 30?? you do realize top 30 is amazing right?
No I dont consider the top 30 Great, I consider the top 15 Great and the bottom 15 Really Good fighters.
Oh I say even with his Joke of a resume he has to be somewhere in the top 30 or so! I dont consider him to be Great per say but again he did beat up an old RJJ, and an old B-Hop!
He has said repeatedly that he's not moving up though. If the Groves-Froch PPV goes well, I can see the likes of Stevenson, Hopkins and maybe even Kovalev dropping to 168lbs to fight him.
In assessing greatness perception of skills doesn't matter, all that matters are the wins on his record.
I say perception, because we can only perceive because we're not in the ring with him to know how skilled he is. On the face of it Wladimir doesn't look that skilled either, it seems like he just sits behind the jab but the reality is he's very skilled. They consistently win fights for a reason.
First let me start by saying it again...........he is a top Level 2 B fighter. I dont care how many wins he has. Joe Calsucky had a boat load of wins and ZERO losses and he one of thee Top B level fighters of all time. Carl Froch won against Kessler I wont deny but he didnt beat the man or school the man like a Floyd did to Guerrero or Canelo.
Froch is tough, has very good speed and a good jab, however he is out of position ALOT, gets hit ALOT, anf is very slow footed and not all that smart of a boxer......................YEAH he is a very good B level fighter for sure!
