Floyd...superior skill. Jones was more of a genetic freak, and Floyd is more of an intelligent boxer.
Yeah but if they were able to fight at a weight, Roy and his gifts, would beat Floyd and his technique.
Roy...
Was more dominant over better oppostion.
Was hit less
Lost fewer rounds
And had the threat of one punch KO power and could've got ANYBODY out of there from 160-175 if he chose to step on the gas.
Floyd only has Roy beat in longevity. But i wonder what Floyd's staying power would've been like if he had've dropped 2 weight divisions to fight Hatton in his strongest weight class (after facing DLH @ 154) seeing as though he couldn't even lose 2 pounds for a guy coming up 2 divisions to face him... Could he have gotten Tarver'd? :dunno:
And this too.
Prime for prime, I have to go with Roy Jones for many of the reasons stated. His dominance captured the imagination and he beat to better names than Mayweather has managed to do.
The thing is, when I judge fighters, I like to judge the WHOLE fighter, not just the parts that make me feel warm a fuzzy inside. Jones went up like a rocket, light up the sky, but came down like a burnt out comet. Mayweather didn't rise as fast, hasn't burnt as bright but is coming down like a feather and still looking hard to beat despite declining in certain ways.
Both great fighters that achieved so much and increased my love for boxing, Roy Jones was otherworldly when at his peak and I have no need to cut into either guy to make my point.
On point with this.
I am of the opinion that Roy was the most impressive to watch and marvel at but Floyd in his prime was the more effective and efficient boxer. You could say that P4P Roy is quicker and hits harder (although Floyd could bang at 130 - 135 and is very fast himself). Floyd has a better skillset, better chin, better defense, better in ring IQ, more versatile.... and just about everything else... Floyd took the athleticism of Roy and mixed in the IQ and skills of Hopkins and Toney...
the obvious/easy answer is floyd but man was roy jones fun to watch and his hand speed for his size was un human I think both of them are just so much better then competition that they will go down as 2 of the most un appreciated fighters but if your asking who is the better boxer i have to go with floyd

I personally consider it the difference between a once in a generation fighter as opposed to a once in a lifetime fighter. Possibly the fastest fighter to ever lace up a pair of gloves who also had the ability to KO opponents with either hand just seems impossible to vote against.
Again, I agree with everything you just said.

And very skilled. He was far from just athleticism, which people these days seem to mistake him for.

A very fair assessment and much better put than my own post! :fing02:
I'm not sure why it's the consensus that Roy has a better resume. He doesn't. Floyd has been on top longer, beaten more pfp fighters, and been on top in more weight classes. Roy also had a habit of fighting embarrassing opposition. With the exception of a few guys at 140, Floyd has pretty much always fought top guys.
James Toney was always a very beatable fighter (cement feet) and Hopkins wouldn't peak for years. Both very good wins, but nothing above the caliber of Floyd's best wins.
With that said, I do think Roy on his best day was more unbeatable.
You're thinking of the punchy current version of James Toney. Not the prime one.
Roy Jones Jr is the greatest fighter to ever lace on a pair of gloves. At his prime when he was at 168 there isn't a single fighter in the history of the sport I would put above him. NO ONE.
Back in the day it really did feel like he could do anything. Maybe he could.
Based on the video, who was the better fighter Roy or Floyd?
Rjjr and It's not all that close in my opinion.
Roy didn't really lose in his prime (Griffin DQ) while arguably, Floyd did.(Castillo I)
Going up in weight: Roy won the HW title from a fighter who weighed in 58lbs above his own ideal fighting weight. Floyd won the JMW title from a fighter who weighed in 14lbs above his ideal fighting weight.
Beating P4P fighters: Roy moved up a division and beat the #1 P4P fighter in the world. Floyd beat the #3 P4P fighter who was moving up 2 weight classes.
Defeating ATGs: Roy beat a consensus top 5 MW Hopkins at MW. Floyd dominated a past prime LW Marquez at WW.
Defeating HOF caliber fighters: Roy dominated a prime James Toney, beat up an old, inactive and bloated Trinidad(Roy was also shot), demolished a past prime but still decent Virgil Hill(the bodyshot was amazing though), and shut out a significantly past prime Mike McCallum. Floyd has a dominant win and a close fight with a prime JLC, a dominant win over Castillo, a KO over Hatton, an easy UD(discounting 2 right hands which had Floyd hurt) over a significantly past prime and inactive Mosley and a close but clear win over an aged and inactive DLH.
Technical ability: Floyd
Defense: Floyd
Offense: Roy
Reflexes: Roy
Speed: Roy
Power: Roy
This is a great post. I agree with it all.
