Not a fan of pro wrestling (although I liked it when I was very young, Rey Mysterio Jr. was the shit) but I'm as big a fan of MMA as I am a boxing fan.
if a 1-1 pro boxer is the best in ufc, then wow, just imagine what other boxers can do.
Yeah, totally disregard the fact that he made his boxing debut in '98 (a loss). We all know that there's no such thing as getting better in a sport.
And let's be serious Ch@mpBox@PR, if there were a PR champion in the UFC/WEC you'd be all over the sport.
MAYWEATHER SAID IT BEST
"UFC IS A FAD BOXING IS AN ART"
or something along those lines...but he said it. and i agree
anyone can fight and become an MMA star...just go to any housing projects i bet youll find at least 5.
Don't be ridiculous. I understand that a lot of boxing fans dislike MMA, but you're a moron if you think it's a sport that doesn't require talent and training. In fact, there's more to learn to be a well-rounded fighter in MMA than there is in boxing.
And Kimbo Slice is a marketed "star", but he's a joke of a fighter despite his power. Dude got knocked out by Seth Petrezulli in like 30 seconds. Most of the guys he fought in his youtube videos couldn't throw a punch to save their life, it was pretty pathetic.
I'm an MMA lover as well as a boxing lover. It's just advertising and hyping, and while White is pretty deserving of most of the insults he receives, one thing you can't say is that he's not a great advertiser. UFC has blown up in the last few years and now two of the elite, elite fighters are going at it.
I really hope you dont think I brought up Kimbo Slice seriously. A poster said go to the projects and you can find at least five MMA stars. I said Kimbo Slice as an example because he beat up on housing project "fighters" abd got owned in MMA
god dammit
Oh, I actually didn't even see that you had mentioned Kimbo. I was basically saying the same thing as you, in different words.
Hopefully he comes over here soon. It would be intelligent for him to get in the limelight while another Asian boxer is the P4P king, and so many people of Asian descent are paying attention to boxing.
Underrated, unknown to most, and a good champion. It says a lot about him that he has won 5 of his 8 fights since winning the belt by knockout, while he had only 5 in his 16 previous fights leading up to that point.
I just hope that he doesn't become a one-trick pony with that left hand, the way Pacquiao used to rely on it. I feel like he would benefit from training with Roach, but language would be an issue.
Just to specify....
Are we talking about the fairly one-dimensional Manny Pacquiao that fought at 126, or the more well-rounded and evolved Manny Pacquiao that we have today, except at 126?
It is CALZAGHE if you think he is the man then learn how to speel his name correctly......Lefty
Before jumping on someone for a spelling error, you should learn how to spell the word "spell".
It's a very close fight and the winner was the guy with the knockdown, just like the Cotto/Clottey fight. In the end, the judges gave it to Pacquiao. It could have gone either way, but it went to Pac, end of story.
The thing is though, that welterweights in search of a big money fight need Pacquiao. He's the hottest commodity in boxing right now. He's not the one who has been calling people out, it's been Shane and to a lesser extent Floyd who have been going on about it.
If the welters want to fight other welters, why don't they call each other out?
I think its a good thing. It's more about giving some of the up comer prospects some light to shine. And besides it's only the first show, i'm sure as things go along things will get better.
I totally agree with this.
Here was the fight that holds the all time record. Julio Cesar Chavez VS Greg Haugen in Estadio Azteca. 132,247 attended.
The "Tijuana Taxi Drivers" fight. It's funny watching Haugen get beaten up there.
Just strategic marketing. They know a lot of "urban" demographics are going to be watching so they put out a commercial for a sport that is generally more popular these days in the same demographics.
I'm hoping for Paulie to get his career back on track and get back to Magic Man status. I think that he may be the only slicked up guido in the entire world that I like. I became a fan after the Cotto fight.
Boxing is an art, MMA isnt. UFC is in the League of WWe Wrestiling more than Boxing. Boxing is uncomparable to those things simply because its an art. You wont find former Fake wrestlers becoming Boxers, thats too hard to do. Boxing takes alot of skil dedication and discipline.
The reason the number of Ufc are growing is because its a trend that you're average guy can join or take part in. Also because little kids watch it. It's something more unsophisticated people watch because it's simple.
Like one of the guys said.UFC is T shirts Boxing is Tuxedos. Boxing will never die, it will always be in it's own league.
Right, boxing is for sophisticated people like the majority of people here who do nothing but have preschool arguments about why their fighter's nuts are hairier than another fighter's nuts.
And yes, boxing, a sport that involves using only the left and right hands as weapons is so simple, compared to a sport that involves multiple ways (beyond striking) to attack an opponent with various parts of the body.
The average guy can join a boxing gym just as easily as he can get instruction in BJJ or Muay Thai or kickboxing. It just so happens that MMA is far more popular at the moment, so of course the sport is going to have more new "average guys".
Wow. This whole fiasco is unbelievable.
No, a Pacquiao win would not be tainted.
However, the entire point of this whole mess of bulllshit from Golden Boy and Floyd's camp is to provide an excuse to dig into Pacquiao, and WHEN the fight does occur in March, they will have an excuse to bury an unfavorable result. It's pretty clear that De La Hoya doesn't care for Pacquiao as well.
The best thing to do, as fans of the sport, is disregard this entire jumble of bullshit and hype tactics and just wait for the fight, because it is definitely going to happen. If you want to buy into Floyd Senior's incoherent ramblings, then go ahead. In the meantime, you can also question every win that Floyd Jr. has ever had, every win that Yuri Foreman has ever had, every win that Miguel Cotto has ever had, every win that Ricky Hatton has ever had, every win that Vitali Klitschko has ever had, every win that Bernard Hopkins has ever had, etc etc etc because none of them have ever had to undergo Olympic style testing for a professional fight. It's unprecedented for a reason, and that reason is that the Nevada State Athletic Commission does a fine job as it is. If Olympic style testing is going to be used here, it needs to be used for all fights. Why is it OK for a top-10 (but not top 2) fighter to use things that might possibly be detected by a blood sample but not urine? It's just stupid.
Wasn't Floyd saying how Marquez was a tougher fight and that he ranked him higher in the P4P list than Manny? Funny how their camp didn't make Marquez give blood half a dozen times in the leadup to the fight. As I said in another thread, I love watching Floyd as a boxer, but his family (blood, and connections) are a grouping of douchebags.
How could anyone say no? I mean, we're talking about Pacquiao only going threw with the match up unless the testing wasn't gonna go down. That should raise a suspicion.
I really think that people are forgetting how legitimate the NSAC is. People are also forgetting (or just not reading?) the fact that Pacquiao's camp says that he will give blood immediately after the fight.
