I'd have to disagree, I think Cotto would soundly beat Margarito. Cotto is the more polished fighter and even though his power is not really there he can easily outpoint and outbox Margarito, as he was displaying in the first fight. Nowadays El Tornado is just good as a punching bag.
After the Marquez fight... Not now... His outing with Chavez sucked... He needs a good performance against a solid fighter and I'll put my money on him to beat Money May...
I don't know, I think Chaves was pretty solid. Not sold on Vargas, don't think he can compete with the likes of Bradley unless he's truly washed up. Should be interesting though.
Johnson is a very underrated fighter. I remember having a conversation about boxing the other day with the a few friends snd they were like Glen who? Sarcastically of course. But still just goes to show that not many people give the guy a lot of respect even though he's a pretty decent fighter. I will say this though.. he's got some heavy hands!
The biggest display of heart I have ever seen has to be the Corrales/Castillo I fight. Both fighters displayed tremendous heart, but Chico's determination to win that fight no matter what it took is really what got me.
Wow Barrera really looks ripped.. he looks like a diff fighter this time around. Lets see if that translates inside the ring, however I am rooting for Juarez.
I was going for Juarez, but Barrera totally dominated that fight, and he basicly just stood there and popped the jab to win it. It's Juarez's responsibility to take the fight to the Champ, not the other way around. Rocky had PLENTY of opportunities to take some risks and get in there and slug with Marco, but he chose to be idle and not do anything, even when Barrera was not punching. I know people are dissapointed in the fight and it wasnt exciting, but Barrera's only responsiblity is to win the fight. He is one of the best boxers out there and he gave Rocky a boxing lesson. His footwork was far superior and his jab was nice and crisp. Rocky did not pressure enough to get Barrera to exchange, who is ALWAYS happy to counter any resistance that is brought to him. So really its not Marco's fault its ROcky's fault for not making it a competative fight. What, is Marco supposed to just sit there and let you hit him just for the sake of it? I love Rocky but I think he needs to improve his style a little bit. He's far too passive and really needs to get some new life blood in his training. Good job to Barrera and good luck with Pacman!
I think I know why to. It is called racism, I bet you dkknight is not black. Hating on floyd gives him and others like him a sense of satisfaction on the negative side. If floyd were white or mexican he would be considered the greatest of alltime. Floyd beat castillo twice by Unanimous decision....
lol are you dumb or just ignorant?
What in the world does me "hating" on Mayweather have anything to do with racism? I don't care if he's black white or green, I go based on his boxing skillz not the color of his skin. I don't like Mayweather b/c he's a cocky SOB. I don't get any satisifaction for "hating" on him. I think he's a great boxer the best out there right now and one of the greats of all time. I won't take that away from him. But doesn't mean I have to like him. And I guess since he's black then automaticly its "Oh he's bashing the black guy! RACISM!!..." yeah very typical type of thinking from ignorant people such as yourself.
But I digress, Mayweather was beaten fair and square in the first fight and was given a gift decision. Wether your a Mayweather fan or not, you cannot, without a shadow of a doubt, refute that statement. At BEST, it was a draw. And that's giving Mayweather a gift. That's all Im saying. This isnt about "hating" on anyone or bashing a particular race or anything.. I'm telling you how I saw it. Everyone is entitiled to their opinion and how they saw it and that's why I'm here. To conversate with people with similar and opposing views and get insight from diff sources. Bigtime9, you need to grow up.
great article I thought people didn't give Jones enough credit for the win over Ajamu. I thought he did an excellent job in that fight the best I seen him do in quite a while.
Broken hand foot eye whatever, he chose to take the fight and took Castillo lightly the first time around and paid for it. Hes not the only guy in the world to ever fight through an injury. Lets not give him excuses for losing his first fight ever. I know you guys want him to have a perfect record and everything, but I hate to break it to you, he really lost that fight. He was given a gift. The second time, yes, Mayweather did take care of Castillo, but we're not talkign about that fight we're talking about the first one. You Mayweathers lovers just better be happy that the fight took place in LV else ur prize fighter would have 1 blemish on his record.
Isn't that the same thing they were saying about Castillo though? Only difference is that Castillo actually has a hell of a chin, where as Cotto's is rather suspect. After seeing the Castillo Mayweather I fight, my thought's of Mayweather being invincible have ceased. In my eyes, Mayweather has a loss and he IS a beatable fighter. Is Cotto the one to do it? Probably not. But a fighter with endless stamina, decent power and who is able to pressure Mayweather can probably do as good as Castillo did. I love Cotto but he's just not ready for a Mayweather.
First, I am not a Mayweather lover...I like his skills, but can care less if he goes undfeated...I don't think he is the "Greatest Fighter to ever live", at least not at this point, and for him to be considered that in my eyes, he is going to have to do more than what he is doing, but even then, I just don't think he is on the skill level of a Robinson.
Second, you say "lets not give him the excuse", well it is a valid "excuse" if it is true, or at least an understanding as to why he didn't look like his usual self...since he did win the second fight more clearly, which a lot those that rip on Floyd forget or don't like to mention, it does show that there was the possiblity that Floyd had an "Off night" either do to injury or whatever the reason may be...that doesn't mean Castillo didn't have an "Off Night" either for the second fight.
It is also probably harder than you think to cancel a fight so close to fight time...a lot of money is being invested in the fight, people get pissed, including the fans that spent so much time and money with plane tickets and hotel rooms
If your not a Mayweather lover, than the post does not apply to you does it? :) Mayweather didn't look his usual self b/c was presented with a fighter who went toe to toe with him every step of the way and pressured him constantly and went to the body and slowed him down. I've seen Gatti fight throw broken hands and he still goes out there and gives it everything he has and I don't see him making excuses. And yes, it may be hard to cancel a fight but if your getting paid millions of dollars to do so, I'd think that you would want to fight either way. And if you DO decide to fight either way, then there are no excuses.
i agree, i dont see the point of insulting someones hair. if u dont like it, leave it alone, who cares, its not like he seems like a bad guy, and no matter wat u say, i think you have to admit he has some skills.
I think the reason he's getting a lot of negative publicity is b/c of the way he came out. Very arrogant, almost on the point of being disrespectful, and the "slit ur throat" gesture was uncalled for, as if he was going to romp all over Cotto or something. I don't really think he's really like that though as a person. He probably did it to try and throw Cotto off his game. After seeing him fight, I had a lot more respect for him. He's got some boxing skills and a lot of heart. In his first title fight against a top notch talent, overall I think he did very well. If he can continue to improve on his game and maybe develop a little more punching power, I think he would be a force to be reckoned with down the line somewhere.
I agree that people shouldn't be judged by the way they look or on first impressions. I honestly don't think he's the character he portrayed himself to be out there. He gave it his all and that's all you can ask from a fighter. How he dresses or how he does his hair or his sexual orientation or whatever the fuk, that's his personal business. I'm just concerned on how the guy fights. Period.
Wait a sec.. who was the dumbass who even brought this question up? This is probably one of the easiest questions I've ever had to answer.. MAYWEATHER of course!!
Now don't get me wrong, I live Tito I think he's one of the greats, hell I'm Puertorican for Gods sake. However, a fight vs Mayweather would be a worse beating than Winky gave him or Hopkins gave him. Its a known fact that Tito cannot face boxers. He can't beat them. Much less the BEST boxer in the world.. not gonna happen no matter what weight class. I still love Tito though and a final bout with De la hoya would be cool.
Floyd has the biggest nuthugging fans EVER...
Dawg, seriously, get off that shit already its getting old. I hate Mayweather I hope he gets his ass whooped. But I'm also not stupid enough to say Tito is gonna be the one to beat him. Put someone in there more suited to beat him like De La Hoya or somethin. Just b/c I don't like the guy doesn't mean I'm not going to acknowledge his prowess in the ring.
From what I saw, it looked like Peter was stealing rounds by putting together combinations the last 15-30 seconds of each round. The scoring was absolutely rediculous. The fight was much closer than that and a draw would have been suffice. I honestly had Toney up by 1 or 2 points, but as I said a draw would have also been fair. This is a perfect example of why the sport of boxing is coming to a slow but sure demise. Maybe they'll start showing some more PRIDE fights over here.. *sigh*
He's an excellent commentator, but I don't know if that translates into being a good trainer. If he was that great a trainer, he'd still be training fighters. I love his commentary and I think he really knows his stuff, but as far as training fighters goes, I'd probly pick Emmanuel Steward or Joe Goosen, but only if he ditched those really tacky shirts he wears.. lol.
I think Jim Lampley overuses some of the same phrases way too much. Like this one where he is like:
Winky Wright pumps his fists as to say. Blah blah blah.
You guys know what i mean?
yup, just like lennox's "definitely" or "absolutely."
except merchant doesn't bother me as much.
hilarious! I love Lampley though, its fun trying to impersonate him. He gets into it so you gotta try and say it with emotion.. lol
Larry is a trip but he's entertaining at times with some of his off the wall commentary.. lol. Oh and lets not forget his classic "trytolookclever speeches."
Speaking of Roy Jones, I honestly thought he was a pretty good commentator, believe it or not. He knew what he was talking about and spoke about it through a fighter's perspective, which I found refreshing.
Tito's strength is in his power and accuracy of his punches. He throws very technically sound punches and gets tremendous power from that left hook. However, when fighting with boxers of superior skill he seems to have problems, as was the case with Hopkins and Delahoya. Tito has been known for getting knocked down early in fights, but after that it seems to get him focused more and he generally ends up knocking the other guy out. He is definitely one of the best boricua fighters of all time.
I have never seen the guy Vivian Harris fight, but I have seen Cotto. Pinto is a good fighter, and sad to say he made Pinto look bad. Remember, Pinto had beat Cotto twice in their amauter careers, and he said that Cotto was not the same fighter. I did notice that when Pinto boxed him and stayed on the outside that he did manange to do a little better vs. Cotto. But as soon as he started trading shots with him, it was over. So I guess Cotto CAN be outboxed. If there's a fighter out there who can be disciplined enough to box the entire time and not trade punches with him, then they might have a chance. But Cotto will be very hard to stop, IMO. I have not seen a fighter with such explosiveness in a long time. Maybe I'm not watching the right fights. :o
Excessive clinching is unbearable. I would get so fustrated in a fight if some guy is trying to hug me all day and stiffle my punches. Which brings in the other side of the equation. Clinching is a technique used by boxers to try and get on the inside of opponents. That's all some boxers have. If they can't get inside they can't win.
So my opinion is that excessive clinching should not be tolerated, but at the same time you can't take away a boxers technical gameplan. A good example of this is when Lewis fought Tyson. I liked how the referee handled the situation by giving Lewis warnings and finally deducting points. That's how your supposed to do it, but unfortunately most referees hardly fit this mold.
Alot of people had it a draw. Fight was close and no one deserved to win so live with it. Oscar ran when he sensed danger, and thats all you need to know. Oscar didn't finish the fight because he didn't want to fight anymore and he deserves to win? Yeah sure maybe to a Mexican-american. I feel sorry for the people who actually paid alot of money to see this live in person and the million + people who baught this PPV. Oscar should of finished the fight like a man. I guess after all the money he got it finally went to his head.
Oscar was afraid of Tito, DLH nutt-huggers always bring up this its funny "Oscar made tito look foolish...*cough* *pause* for 9 rounds" Lol. Come on don't be shy Dela-hermys lets talk about the running for once since its something you always avoid. And I had it a draw, and felt no-one should of won however I'm not losing any sleep over what happened because DLH got what he deserved.
I also believed it was a draw.
You know Silverfox, YOUR the true dickhead. When you see someone down, you don't kick him. Have some compassion for crying out loud.
The guy went through a lot early in his childhood and was probably traumatized. He probly also had some type of chemical inbalance that attributed for a lot of the mood swings.
I have pity for the guy b/c I hate to see anyone in that type of situation. Reminds me of Rocky V when Rocky is trying to tell Tommy Gunn about Duke and how he's a Vampire and living off his blood.. and how they suck em dry and throw em to the gutter when they're not worth anythign anymore. Seems this is the case with Tyson. I hope he can learn to accept his situation and try and live a normal life. This is probably the hardest thing he's ever had to face, as any who have HAD and LOST can attest to this.
another classic snapshot of mike vs tyson, torn between his two personalities
So true, so true.
How about Gatti? No love for my boy? I honestly think Gatti is an all-time great. I like him better than Kosta whatever his name is. On a side note, I alwyas thought that guy was Japanese. Guess he's Russian. I would never have guessed.. lol.
I thought you said that you havent even seen Floyd fight
I never seen a lot of people fight, but that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge that they're good or better than another fighter. Its called a "scouting report." Geez man too many smart asses in these forums.
Jones defeated Hopkins and Toney, who are two of the best out there, Darius would have lost to both Hopkins and Toney.
I have to agree with this opinion. Hopkins and Toney are great fighters and Jones made them look silly.
Belts aside, Jones is one of the most skilled fighters of our time. He had amazing lightning speed, and he had power to go with it. In his prime he could beat pretty much anyone b/c of his speed and ability to dodge a punch, and also b/c of his hand speed. He could throw combinations quicker than anyone. Someone mentioned something about walking Jones down and that's all they had to do to win the fight... that's easier said than done. And even if they did do that, which is what Toney was doing, he could come back with quick combinations and easily avoid punches.
So if you want to talk about belts all day and who was robbed and who should have had what.. go right ahead. But when we're talking about SKILL, theres no comparison and you can't deny Jones that regardless if he was a "paper champ" or not.
I don't know about Tszyu "blasting" Gatti. Tszyu is a lot older than he was in his prime and after watching the Vince Phillips fight, I think Gatti has a good chance. I think it would be a great fight. Mayweather.. now that might be pushing it a little. But I would never count Gatti out in a fight. He has the ability to end a fight with one punch, so he's never far from winning a match. Tszyu vs. Gatti prediction: Draw.
Winky has never been hit by a puncher as hard as Tito. "He's going to get his cajonies knocked out."
If Winky can make the fight go the distance, he has a chance to win by decision if he racks up the points with that good jab of his. However, I think Tito is going to do what he does in every fight. Chase his oppnent down look for a good opening and then go for the big shot. No one really knows how hard he hits until they get in the ring with him. The only person that can withstand a shot of Tito's is Hopkins. And even then, I think if Tito lands a clean one, unlike the last meeting in which he was not getting any good shots vs. Hopkins at all, he would be able to at least stun him.
Prediction: Trinidad over Wright by KO in the 9th round.
