Are you getting tired of Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant telling you what to think of the fights or is it just me ? Now don't get me wrong I still think they are the best at what they do but I am so sick of them telling me that I am watching a boring fight. It seems a little strange to me that they do it in the first place because you'd think that part of thier job would be to make the audience more interested. Yet all I seem to hear from them now a days is how unactive the fighters are and how bored they are too have free front row seats for all the biggest fights:nonono: .What I can't understand is how they do it without HBO stepping in to say " Hey wtf are you two doing"? It's as if they are telling us all to change the channel half the time. They are two of the biggest faces and names in the boxing world and to me this only hurts boxing by having them speak in this matter. In conclusion why not keep your personal feelings to yourseves and for gods sake Larry stop with the Jerry Springer type final thoughts. Like I said I think they are both great and would miss them dearly if they were to leave. I just think they need to change their approach on "bad fights" .
emmanuel steward is the best of the three. I like merchant but he's wrong 70% of the time, and Lampley is good but annoying often.
Honestly the best thing for boxing would be WWE style announcers that push the product, though not without any honesty whatsoever like those guys.
yeah i loved before the spinks/karmazin fight when jim grey basically toungue in cheek made fun of spinks for getting knocked out after rapping on his way to the ring and asks if hes gonna do it again.
and spinks says something along the lines of...
cause thats what corey spinks do and corey spinks always gone do what corey spinks do.....
and jim grey goes...
"well tell me corey, what exactly do corey spinks do?"
Jim Gray is Larry Merchant in training...lol
I think Jim Lampley overuses some of the same phrases way too much. Like this one where he is like:
Winky Wright pumps his fists as to say. Blah blah blah.
You guys know what i mean?
yup, just like lennox's "definitely" or "absolutely."
except merchant doesn't bother me as much.
hilarious! I love Lampley though, its fun trying to impersonate him. He gets into it so you gotta try and say it with emotion.. lol
Larry is a trip but he's entertaining at times with some of his off the wall commentary.. lol. Oh and lets not forget his classic "trytolookclever speeches."
Speaking of Roy Jones, I honestly thought he was a pretty good commentator, believe it or not. He knew what he was talking about and spoke about it through a fighter's perspective, which I found refreshing.
McAlister, well, i don't think he's much of a racist, if he is one. there are certainly black fighters that he does seem to like.
i have noticed a general theme with the guys you listed. they all are basically loud mouthed, generally disresepctful, arrogant fighters. bernard is more of an exception as he doesn't come across much like judah or toney, etc.
maybe he just doesn't like arrogant people who take 10 minutes to walk to the ring.
This might just be me but mostly I see this in HBO fights, one of them will be talking a bunch and a guy get's knocked down and the guy who's talking still keeps fucking talking.
For real huh? They just continue on like nothing happened.
Larry Merchant is a HATER
can we relax on calling people "haters"? that term has seemed to have lost it's meaning with the abuse of that word by the youth of these days.
So if ruiz vs rahman 2 happens on ppv, what should larry say? lol i mean come on. Larry is annoying by sometimes disrespecting fighters but atleast he speak the truth. Larry won't cheer for no fighters like jim does all the time. Larry is also honest i remember when big goerge for all over tito and larry is like " tito is not doing anything to make hopkins afraid of his punches, hopkins deserves all the respect in the world for his performance tonight" and larry hates hopkins.
i think you got the wrong impression - i like larry most of the time. i was just giving a little advice on how to get past the commentary if a person wants to.

i understand what you're saying, but do like i do if a commentator gets a bit on my nerves - watch the fight and pretend your sitting ringside or something similar. it takes a little of the focus off of paying attention to the commentary.

I like Larry but he more then anyone sounds like he hates being at the fight . Maybe it's just his voice or maybe he's lost love for the sport, I don't know. But when they tell us Barrett has never beat anyone worth mentioning you are telling the part time fans and non fans that the fight is not worth watching. It not only hurts the sport but it also then hurts HBO and the fighter named.
Larry don't like watch boring fights aka ruiz. Remember when larry bash stone? that was a classic.

I agree it shouldnt be a big deal but you just made another point in that they sometimes seem to be trying to sleal the show from the fighters...... I re-watch the fights without the sound for that reason and because it's easier to see what's going on.

I find it very strange that Merchant complains about fights being boring. He's not exactly encouring people to buy the next PPV. It also gets a little tiresome if you're watching a fight that you're actually enjoying, and he's groaning about the pace or whatever.
