I remember hearing him a while back saying he wasn't going to train anybody anymore because he was tired of the commitment, only to see a fighter not listen, something like that...then I thought I heard recently, he was going to train some guy from the Cruiserweight division that is coming back...so what is going on, is he training somebody, is he not?
Also, what are your thoughts on his knowledge of boxing history, competence as a trainer, and how does he compare against other trainers like Roach, Goosen, Steward, etc. ? obviously he can't suck if D'amato trusted him to train his fighters, Moorer loves the guy, Briggs praises him, but what are your thoughts anyway?
What about compared to Kevin Rooney overall, or at least how would Tyson have been different if Tyson listened to Atlas, different, no different?
Wasn't it his sister?
Atlas can eat shit n die for all I care.
LMAO.
I think it was his niece, or sister in law.
Whatever, Tyson's tendency to grope helped Teddy's future career.
I heard the young girl Tyson was messing with was Atlas' daughter.

Oh shit...I already replied to this post...NM
Teddy's prefight on ESPN is the best breakdown analysis in my opinion for fights. Especially since he shows exactly what the fighters do and what they need to do by having a partner demonstrate it.
(Looks like Teddy has a quick jab too! Joking)
That's what I like about Goosen, Steward, and Teddy also. Instruction in the Corner during a fight. Very good technical analysis. This is where I think Roach lags behind as a trainer, he's great in the gym and before a fight. But in the corner with his fighters he doesn't offer much in my view of what they need to do, or how they should proceed if something isn't working in a fight. Almost sounds like one of your homegrown trainers you have known your whole life who just say "How do you feel? Just keep hitting him with the jab and follow with a hook."
Just my thoughts. I don't know if Teddy is training anybody right now.
That is a good part of ESPN. I'll give him that.
Teddy is training Henry Maske to fight Virgil Hill, after Maske has not been active for a decade.
If Teddy does a good job, I'll give him his props.

Teddy is too much for me at times.
I think he is Ok, but can be very annoying and is seemingly a head case.
He makes it seem like he is the supreme boxing commentator/historian etc.
Bert Sugar is the worst, though.
Guys not only dumb, but annoying as well.
What pro fighters have done well working with Atlas other than Moorer (who won a close decision over a Holyfield having an off-night)???
Atlas is so overrated, and I can't believe people buy into his crap.
Atlas clicks with certain fighters and is very good for them, but overall I'd imagine he is hard to work with. A trainer has to change his methods to work for their boxer, as Dundee famously did for Ali (by using positive reinforcement instead of negative). He can't expect the fighter to change his personality for him.
He's a good trainer but not on Roach's or Steward's level and the proof is just in the pudding. But Teddy is a great personality and I'd rather have a beer with him and talk boxing than with Roach or Steward.
There are limits to what any trainer can accomplish. Only one percent of all the boxers in the world have the required talent to reach the championship level, and that is why there are many more trainers than champions. Just because Teddy Atlas has a lack of champions on his resume does not mean he is a bad trainer, and just because he is on TV does not make him a good trainer. You have to work with a man day after day to find out how good he really is.
Also, what are your thoughts on his knowledge of boxing history, competence as a trainer, and how does he compare against other trainers like Roach, Goosen, Steward, etc. ?
he doesn't compare.
steward is a great trainer with a brilliant track record. he trained hearns from the get-go. he devised the game plan for holyfield to beat bowe in their 2nd fight. he trained mccall when he beat lewis and took advantage of lewis's poor balance.
goosen is a solid veteran trainer who has trained successful guys for a long time. roach has trained champions for years, not just recently as everyone thinks.
atlas's whole reputation as a pro trainer is forged on moorer, who already ko'd like 26 straight guys before atlas, and showed more heart than ever with roach in the holyfield rematch.
I heard the young girl Tyson was messing with was Atlas' daughter.
Actually it was his sister. I for one cannot stand Atlas, He's so full of himself it's sickening. His # 1 favorite past time is Tyson hating. Like many others I've heard the guy scream like a banshee during a fight if a fighter is hurt...STOP IT, STOP IT, THEY NEED TO STOP THIS FIGHT. Next thing you know he's trying to get into the ring. Then he slams the Referee for not doing what he thought he should have done. His "Keys to Victory" thing makes me throw up in my mouth. I try to change the channel before he does it, sometimes I'm not in time. Pop Pop, then come with the left.
:tapedshut I like to mute the TV if he's doing a fight. Actually I have to or I'll throw up in my mouth again. And his scar...WTF? Oh well, who cares.
Tyson by KO
He's an excellent commentator, but I don't know if that translates into being a good trainer. If he was that great a trainer, he'd still be training fighters. I love his commentary and I think he really knows his stuff, but as far as training fighters goes, I'd probly pick Emmanuel Steward or Joe Goosen, but only if he ditched those really tacky shirts he wears.. lol.
Teddy Atlas is a good trainer, but he gives up on fighters. He tries to break them down then, build them up, it doesn't always work for the good but i've noticed thats his technique.
he's not a very good pro trainer.
the most success he's had is when he was given all this credit for his speeches when moorer won the title, but i think it had more 2 do with moorer outjabbing holyfield, holyfield having an off-day, and a scoring error.
what else has atlas done?
i think atlas is a good trainer, but then he doesnt train me so i dont know
