My initial reaction after watching it in the pub was that nobody won, Haye because he didn't live up to a tenth of the hype and trash talk, Wlad because he couldn't/wouldn't put him away and boxing in general after such a ridiculous build up that failed to deliver.
First and foremost we expect to be entertained, I didn't mind who won the fight, but it was all a bit of a no contest after talk of 6 round knockouts from Haye and the 50th knockout by Wlad. It's all talk, and its rare when these men deliver.
Why do the British always over hype their fighters? People like Mitchell and Murray get all the hype yet authentic world class fighters like Khan cant get a mention in a British newspaper because of his race!
Not sure what papers your buying, but the buildup to the Khan fight has been given a full page spread in the sun/mirror/star the last few days for the buildup to the Judah fight. The only buildup I've seen printed in the papers in relation to the Mitchell/Murray fight has been today in the Mirror, which is a regular, weekly column.
Khan gets a fair crack of the whip in the papers
Cheers for the responses lads, totally overlooked Klitschko and Ortiz (I've watched the HBO highlights of the latter, and it seems like he's been in some wars).
So if you getting 6 to 1 odds that Mitchell will win? Those are great odds, this fight should be a 50/50 fight, both their records are complete crap but the Loss on Mitchell's record is better than anything on Murray's
Not exactly, the 6/1 odds are on the KO/TKO/DQ, so if its going to points it would be a losing bet, the best I've found on the high street bookies in England for a Decision win (Mitchell) is 7/2. Looking at both their records (and I know these fighters come up against some crap early in their career), Mitchell has the higher KO count (23) to Murray's 18. So that price of 6/1 seems like it should be closer to 3/1-7/2, whether it pays off is irrelevant, key to gambling is to look for value and bet accordingly.
My strategy in betting is to heavily study a market and look for genuine value, so theoretically in the long run you win because you find the best prices. And I have been pulling a very good profit when sticking to these rules!
You missed 2 weeks ago when some UK Bookies had Haye and Wlad as 50/50 when Wlad shouldve been 6/1 , lots of ppl made money off that bet.
Mitchell has only 1 Decision win in his last 10 fights. Rest have been KO.
I dont know how good Murrays chin is, I would avoid this fight but if I had say $100 to bet I would do 75$ Mitchell straight up win and 25$ Mitchell by KO
A good mate of mine strongly tipped Wlad on points for months, he had at least £200 on (that we knew about) at around 5/1 on the net, he surmised that based on looking at the cold facts, instead of being seduced by all the rubbish spouted before the fight. So whilst all the drunks were flying in the bookies to bet on Haye round 4,5 and 6, he saw the value.
Good points made there! Agreed.
Who is the fat one? I thought it was a fat dude doin the whole T..B..EEEEE?
He's even worse than the skinny guy. The fat **** with the scrunched up face eyeballing the camera.
Khan has two belts doe

JMM in November would be incredible but your looking at around 20,000 arena fight.
Big risk to ruin the Khan Wembley date.
Froch/Groves (Wembley) was May, Chisora/Haye (Upton Park) was July, Mitchell/Katsidis (Upton Park) was May and McDonnell vs Ceja (Doncaster) was May so you'd think arena fight in Nov/Dec.
It's cold over here in the winter y'know :crying:
"Lucky Punch" is bull****.
Khan showed good snap in the first two rounds, and the most promising part of that was the cut over the eye (and the potential stoppage that could have resulted in). He popped some good straight lefts in the third to target that cut.
Problem is Danny was popping good, concise counters. There was nothing lucky about that knockout, and he closed the fight out like a cool killer.
The split is inevitable, he's already come out today saying that travelling all over the place for his training camps doesn't help (something that surprisingly wasn't an issue before the fight).
If he doesn't get his **** together now, his speed will desert him as he gets older, and he'll have nothing to offer
Very fair opinion. That fight had me on the edge of my seat.
Best thing about that fight yesterday (compared to the Channel 5 Fury farce) was it was a good advert for boxing, and will hopefully encourage Sky Sports to stick with boxing. They've had this, Froch/Bute and Ortiz/Lopez on "free" (if you consider £20 a month free) TV in a very short period of time.
And since they are a company that is dry humping their F1 channel these days, we need more fights at and above this quality to keep it on TV, and avoid the very **** Boxnation getting a monopoly.
The biggest issue with this fight is exactly how popular (and marketable) is Amir Khan? Not how much Team Khan rate themselves (which is head in the sky stuff), but how Mayweather would rate him as a big seller, and therefore be willing to go ahead with it.
His fanbase doesn't touch the big boys in the past few years (Cotto, Hatton, De La Hoya etc).
I doubt his team would be happy with a baby paycheck, and Team Mayweather ain't no charity.
But yes, I'd like to see the fight in the future.
It was a close, competitive and exciting fight, not FOTY though. What made it exciting was Jones eating up all of Brook's attack, walking through them and throwing back. The excitement came from the uncertainty in whether Brook would survive (reminded me a bit of Khan/Maidana).
Wasn't impressed with Brook's excuses in the post match interview though, was even less impressed by the lack of professionalism in his corner between rounds.
The problem for Khan is Mayweather doesn't give a **** about what hardcore fans think, or what belts you have, his interest lies in how much dollar the fight can generate. The Cotto fight was more of a risk than others out there, but the financial reward more than made up for that risk.
As long as the Mayweather team thinks that their financial positioning, and the monetary reward that follows comfortably outweighs the risk involved, they'll take the fight.
We'll be watching Haye vs Chisora next week, a 30,000 seater fight that will be probably sell out. Could Khan pull this crowd against anyone on his level? I'm not confident in Khan's marketability on the gates or via PPV, and that's not a knock on him, but he isn't getting anywhere near 70/30.
What did Ortiz get?
Chisora is an angry man, I don't blame him for being desperate though. His purse was obliterated by his moronic behaviour in his last fight, so he needs the cash.
Problem is when he most likely loses this fight he's going drop straight down to bingo halls, and could end up chasing fights against Fury/Price.
This man is most likely going to jail sooner rather than later, not a normal man.
It's not like the HOF is ridiculously stringent with its inductees, so I'd be more than happy for Hamed to go in for the same reasons people shouted for Ricky Hatton; they both gave a lot to the sport, are former champions and were crossover stars.
If Groves had worked his way into a WBA mandatory position instead of the IBF I don't think we'd have seen the first fight.
I recall Froch saying that he wouldn't relinquish the IBF belt before the Groves fight because it was more prestigious than the WBA regular (and rightly so). I think it's quite likely that he will vacate, so we could be in a position where Froch holds the WBA plastic belt if he gets through Chaves, whilst Groves fights a no mark to pick up the IBF strap to set up a showdown later in the year.
Issue with that is Groves would demand 50/50, claim his belt is worth more than Froch's plastic title, and we go around and around in a circle of death.
Get the fight on now and pray for a clear cut winner.
Damn, I'd take that fight if I was Murray. It's not beyond him and you've got to look at the leverage he'd get if he won and went into a Barker fight as an all British unification.
Sounds like it's out of his hands though, with Schaefer calling Hatton CEO Richard Poxon a ****ing moron (which is hilarious).
Waiting game 'till Barker/Sturm happens.

I find Ellerbe's beard to be incredibly unnerving and groomed beyond logic.
Not to say to say that X Y Z strategy is better, but I couldn't help doing a colossal face palm when Canelo chose to try and tentatively counter box Floyd Mayweather. :tragedy:
THE BLUEPRINT WAS WRONG.
WE NEED A NEW BLUEPRINT.
:dunce:
Canelo because it would shake boxing up and send this forums into meltdown again, and Garcia because I find him quite likeable in interviews that don't involve his racist father (plus he has quite an entertaining style).
If he's offering you a straight even money bet then take it, put money on Canelo and a bit on the draw and you'll guarantee a profit whatever the outcome <- real talk
From my understanding of the press conference (didn't watch the lot), Khan's manager Asif Vali was supposed to be there; so we can assume Khan's future fights will be on Boxnation. Maloney is smoked, Hatton & Barry are newbies in the promoter game still.
Even though Adam Smith gets a **** load of hate, I quite like the Sky Sports boxing package. The Matchroom domestic cards are reasonable, and the weekly instalments of Ringside and Toe 2 Toe podcasts are excellent. I don't have a Boxnation subscription, but once they launch HD later this year I'll sign up on the day. The only thing I think is trash on Sky is Prizefighter.
If fish eyes keeps pumping on the big american cards, his subscription base will continue to grow. Good effort for an 18 month channel.
