John Murray is a domestic level fighter that made the longest running undefeated record in British boxing, He did that being fed a string of journeyman like the famous Yousef Al Hamidi a Syrian political asylum seeker and full time ice cream van driver who outboxed him!
Murray hype then goes overboard and he couldnt even beat a domestic fighter coming off a loss who hadnt fought for 14 months and yet was calling out Rios and Khan. He was even touted as the next Ricky Hatton!
Why do the British always over hype their fighters? People like Mitchell and Murray get all the hype yet authentic world class fighters like Khan cant get a mention in a British newspaper because of his race!
From what I can tell it seem that the British are very, very desperate for a young white boxer who is world class to come along. They banked on Kevin Mitchell who was blown away by Michael Katsidis, They banked then on John Murray who had the longest undefeated streak against journeymen in the UK. Ricky Burns is totally featherfisted, Froch is old and is on the verge of defeat against Andre Ward.
It really is sad that the British would rather build up a hypejob because he is white, Instead of supporting someone who is already world class because he is Asian like Khan. The British are renowned for grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory.
The next British hypejob in the making: Frankie Gavin.
I haven't made anything up. I read this forum every day, and plenty of Brits were getting carried along and going with the 'he'll roll over Murray' line. Some even admitted after the fight that they'd overestimated his level.
You don't get bizarrely unrealistic odds like that, BTW, without some hype and manufacturing going on.
Did I say Murray had the full weight of the British sporting consciousness on board already? No. I said he was starting to win converts to the hype. Budding hypejob, now derailed. The end.
:sigh1:
I have seen no real evidence of this so called Murray hype but whatever.
Errr, yeah, they did. Plenty peeps talking up his chances over Mitchell in the last week. These things happen in stages. Had he somehow navigated Mitchell, by a stroke of favorable officiating or some twist of fate, he would've had a bunch more people on board. Manc ticket-seller gets a bunch more fans, move onto the next brand-building stage.
Like I said, not a fully blossomed hypejob, but a budding one. Just not good enough to get past the prelim stages of world-class. And so his hype is nipped in the bud, thank goodness.
Where? I have seen no Murray hype on here. Stop making shiit up. People may have thought he could beat Mitchell but most people with any sense knew that if Mitchell came right, he'd win.

Khan was always in the papers. Then he left the UK becuase of tax reasons and no body outside of boxing cares about him anymore.
Bro, you're so much better than reheated !! Anorak.
That's him in there, where's you?
Reach down deep and find the Diggler again.
You only have to look at recent posts on this forum to see how even fairly close followers of the sport were being taken in. Easy to see how it would've snowballed had Murray's win-streak had somehow miraculously continued beyond tonight. Thank goodness Kevin flopped him and real talent got the W while hypejobs took a L tonight.
No one here gave a shiit about John Murray. Sky hyped him because thats their job.
i thought the ref robbed him TBH and yes i do rate murray in the top 5 p4p
thats why his opponents had a record of like 400wins and 600 loses?
Mitchell's opponents were 400 and like 320 which is BAD but not legendary bad like Murray.
top 5 p4p lol
Maybe top 5 p4p BUM
"longest undefeated streak in british boxing", "the next ricky hatton", "undefeated".
Just admit it man the guy was a British hypejob who had ABC rankings but did jack to earn them, People like KHan cant get a line in a newspaper because hypejobs like murray get all the limelight.
He did not have the longest undefeated streak in British boxing.
I don't recall anyone ever calling him the next Ricky Hatton.
Tonight I walked into my local pub and asked whether they were gonna show the boxing. They asked who was fighting and I told them. Faces were blank all round. Murray was not a hypejob, he was a virtual unkown in his own country.
Because he was seriously unworthy while at the same time being puffed up into delusions of grandeur by FWP. Murray was a complete hypejob. Thankfully nipped in the bud before he got that undeserved title shot.John Murray was never a hypejob. Sky backed him because he's a ticket seller in Manchester and had an all-action style, and, obviously, because selling fighters like Murray is their job, but at no point were the boxing public outside of Manchester fooled. He got practically no mainstream media coverage, and I don't remember ever reading a thread or comment page on a boxing website claiming how he was the next big thing on the world stage or something. As for him being undeserving of a title shot, welcome to modern boxing. Even so, he was a damn sight more deserving than Matthew Hatton, who fought for a title live on HBO!
Come on fellow Brits, admit it, we all hyped John Murray to be the next Roberto Duran.
Bias Brits exposed lulz pwnYeah, we all got it wrong on this one. I was certain Murray was going to be the first man to stop Mayweather. Oh well.
But forgetting about Murray for a minute, have you ever heard of a fighter named Dereck Chisora? I'm telling you man, this cat is Tyson, Ali and Holmes all rolled into one. He's gonna obliterate both Klitsckho's, I promise you that!
C'mon everybody, join the Chisora hypetrain!

I was thinking more along the lines of SRR myself
Not sure what papers your buying, but the buildup to the Khan fight has been given a full page spread in the sun/mirror/star the last few days for the buildup to the Judah fight. No, you must have dreamt this. Because Hard Boiled has made it clear, through use of hard facts and faultless logic, that British Newspapers never even mention Khan due to the fact that he's a Muslim.
I think you folks are suffering amnesia this is the guy that was calling out Rios!I think you may be suffering retardation. How does Murray calling out Rios have anything to do with him being a hypejob. I mean, literally, how are the two things even connected?

Not sure what papers your buying, but the buildup to the Khan fight has been given a full page spread in the sun/mirror/star the last few days for the buildup to the Judah fight. The only buildup I've seen printed in the papers in relation to the Mitchell/Murray fight has been today in the Mirror, which is a regular, weekly column.
Khan gets a fair crack of the whip in the papers
I think you folks are suffering amnesia this is the guy that was calling out Rios! And to answer a question, British people hype the wrong fighters to much and the ones that deserve it never get it.
Even Mitchell was a hypejob until he got blown away by Katsidis and now Murray gets blown away by Mitchell. Murray never even attempted to raise the level of competition before tonight he was happy to fight journeyman for easy paydays and it all came back to haunt him tonight.
LOL! John Murray was touted as the next big thing out of the UK, Even the bookmakers in the UK had Murray as the favourite to beat Mitchell, A guy that was mauled by Katsidis and hadnt fought in 14 months! Why wouldn't Murray have been the betting favourite over a guy who was "mauled by Katsidis and hadn't fought in 14 months"? You're not making this easy for yourself.
i remeber murray winning a close verdict against al hamidi , i new he was garbage after that fight , he was also wobbled against a non puncher in his last fight, bellew to beat mckenzie on points 11/4 and mitchell to beat murray 11/8 nice double courtesy of the british bookies ignorace ! but murrays never been hyped , if anything he was underated with hennessy , never fought on sky , its only his last 2 fights under warren, hes had hype so people new he was ! great fight but mitchell doesnt have a chin to handle a world class puncher !
"longest undefeated streak in british boxing"That's a simple fact, not hype, you complete and utter mongoloid.
"the next ricky hatton"The comparisons were due to the fact that like Ricky, he's a fighter from Manchester, and again like Ricky, he fights a rough inside style with little regard to defence.
"undefeated".Haha. Man, what crazy hype, acknowledging the fact that a fighter is undefeated. It's like they're calling him the next Ray Robinson.
Seriously, how did somebody as dumb as you ever learn how to breathe.
It looks like you were the only one who was fooled into believing that any of those statements ment anything, dont understand why you are so worked up about him loosing. Its not like people where making endless threads about how good he was.
as a side question, why is it that so many people from different countries take such an interest in our fighters, especially those that are at domestic level?
