Ellerbe Quote about catchweights prior to the Cotto fight
"He was a dead man walking when he went into the ring," Ellerbe said. "The casual fan doesn't know what difference one or two pounds can make when a fighter is already down to weight. Fighters know."
"That's one thing Floyd make perfectly clear to us," Ellerbe said. "He didn't want to fight him at a catchweight, he wanted to fight him at the weight. Sometimes, you don't get full credit when you fight at a catchweight. Floyd wanted to make sure Miguel was comfortable."
LOL Mayweathers getting exposed, Floyds huge nostril towel holder is trying to justify the catchweight looking like some real snakes just because the manager said they would be willing to fight Floyd at a catchweight, it just goes to show Floyd wanted to take advantage, now they blaming and article put out on Boxingscene for the catchweight. Horrible try at justifying the catchweight after being so against it even saying he refused to fight cotto at a catchweight even if it was offered because unlike Pacman he wants cotto healthy, pretty much show he wanted Canelo drained here.
Bro, he's 23 years old. He can make the weight a lot easier than if he was 31 as Cotto was. Its not a stale offer imho. Hitting the sweepstakes isn't about belts, its about millions of dollars. Trust me, Canelo doesn't care about the 2 lbs cuz he's not old enough to need to care about it. He cares about glory and a few million greenbacks.
When its all said and done Canelo's team funked themselves up by over extending themselves.
So fighters will drain themselves for money, nothing new. How it will play out, we'll see. Floyd must be banking on weight struggle, else why make a fool of himself over nothing.
But I don't see how Team Canelo overextended. Nobody takes that old offer seriously except hard core flo mos, the guy has obviously grown and was recently insisting on 154.

Who cares? Ya'll are acting like its a 10 year old offer.
Well for one, maybe in 2011 he could hope to make 150, but not in 2013 having come in 172 last. So that will take a stale offer off the table.
Besides, when the offer was made Floyd was not holding a SWW belt. Since then he also bragged about giving his opponents their best weight. So you'd expect 154.
I don't blame Mayweather and his team for this honestly. Canelo and his management should have held out (like he did when he refused to fight under his PPVs) and firmly stated it's either at 154 or no fight; we walk. If the rumors are true that the Guerrero fight didn't meet financial expectations, they could have bid their time and gotten a better deal since they presented the most lucrative fight for Mayweather and Showtime. Instead they amateurishly put themselves into a disadvantage that didn't have to be there. This is a business and his team should have looked out for Alvarez' best interest, but either they believe it won't be an issue or they leaned on false confidence/assumption that it won't hinder Canelo's performance.
On Floyd's part, yes it's hypocritical and a contradiction from his previous statements but how is that any different from every other public figure, businessman, or politician who lies to us? Do you guys honestly believe every word Floyd and his team (who are in the million dollar business, mind you) publicly say and do you expect them to be objective, moral, and honest people?
So, Canelo lied? What does the date change? If it was 5-7 years ago, then yes, you MAY have had a point. You don't.
It changes nothing. You want the fight and you already laid the terms down for the person who's in the driver's seat - it's on you. They should learn how to play their cards right but they got eager.
The aforementioned article is still viable. Why should Floyd fight him at 154 when Canelo already said that he'll do anything to fight him at 150?
LMAO.....Floyd said he would never disadvantage a fighter and would always fight them at the weight that they felt most comfortable. That was just last year, but hey like you said, it could have been 7 years ago and it wouldn't matter.

If you want the fight this much then accept the offer which is given. Matter of fact, you made the offer in the first place, wether you were high, drunk or just naive/stupid when you laid it out there on the table, it doesn't matter. So, it's really on you - not the other way around (Canelo and his management).

"The fight is at 152, but it's really not about the weight, it's the skill". Yup, which is why the fight isn't at 154. You can fool you're stupid lil fans, but you can't fool me.
^^ Spot on

:stupid:Because HE said he ONLY fights fighters at their comfortable weight
Ellerbe has to be one of the most unlikeable characters in boxing a true butt kisser yes man
Wasn't he a former Roid user? he was a personal trainer and bodybuilder or something like that years ago before he met Floyd.

Because people grow, especially 21-23. He used to fight at 147, now he'd have to cut something off to get there. He's probably physically unable to make 150 now, and that's one of the reasons that offer would go off the table.
Another reason is that Floyd is now a SWW champ that just last year boasted about giving his opponent his best weight. So that all adds up to 154

Floyd is smoke and mirrors man. Only idiots believe everything he says, its funny thought they will say you are misinterpreting his comments.

for all those who say Floyd should refuse a cw on principle, He is the champ been the champ and can do what the **** he wants. When you have the big stack, you call the shots ...
Terrible reasoning, UK. You've heard the phrase "Might makes right"? Oh, you haven't? Shame. Look it up.
Canelo will re-hydrate to 160-165+.
If there was a "No Re-hydrate" clause, I would be very disappointed in Floyd.
If Canelo were really confident of himself he would weigh-in at the 154lb limit and pay the weigh-in violation penalty. Wouldn't really be a good idea money-wise, though.
At the same time, Canelo could weigh in at 150 or 151 if he felt very confident his abilities wouldn't be affected.
Now, what if Floyd did tip the scales at 154 and not 152?
Now everyone would have something to talk about.
