Duran had been rated number one for a long time, but leading up to that fight, people did have Leonard higher simply because Duran had not looked very good at 147 in the couple years before their fight, except against Palomino. Most assumed he’d lost a step due to the weight gain and fighting bigger guys.

Just let Mayweather box and promote his events. Obviously, unlike Lebron James and Colin Kaepernick; He along with so many other African American athletes and former athletes tend to have no social or political conscious at all. Loma haters in a nutshell. Becoming a 3-weight world champ in your first 12 fights isn't that impressive? Pac's a legend, but his first 12 opponents were complete bums. kardsufur has it right. Pac was 17 with very little amateur experience. Loma was a fully grown man in his mid to late twenties with extensive amateur and pro experience, though people like to overlook that. He’s essentially just skipped the part that most young, inexperienced pros need to go through because he was much older and already highly experienced in high level am fights and a good series of pro fights that just didn’t go on his record. He’s at the same level now that any 30 year old experienced championship level fighter should be at.

I think so. He's reached P4P #1 by a couple of sources (BWAA, ESPN). He holds 3 world records (fastest to a title in 1, 2, and 3 weight classes). He's got good names on his resume (GRJ, Walters, Rigondeaux, Linares). All in 12 pro fights. Moot point though. He's just getting started. What do you mean fastest? As in least time or least fights? Jeff Fenech won his first two titles in less time, not sure about 3rd though (don’t think so from memory) and he only tied Muangsurins old record for amount of fights.

If SRR fought during today's era, he would be called an "exposed" bum and "glass chin" on this forum. You basically have to be a super human genetically enhanced cyborg with 100-0 (100ko's) record to be considered "A level" on this forum. Anyone who doesn't KO all their opponents in the first round is "exposed" It seems to be a place of complete extremes and total opposites. On one hand you’ll have guys claiming that a fighter with just a few years as a pro, and only a dozen fights is already a HOF legend and on his way to becoming one of the greatest of all time after beating literally just a few fighters at the top level, and you’ll have others claiming he’s a bum that’ll get knocked out and “exposed” every fight. It’s all or nothing with most people here. People just need to chill on both sides. I do find the constant ‘greatest ever’ and ATG kind of talk more annoying though in general. PAC has never held an interim title, while someone else was the actual champion, that people count toward his divisional titles. It’s simple. There was an actual champion that had won the full title above GGG and his ‘interim’ title. Holding the interim title literally means you are not the champion. That’s its only point...it says ‘you are not the real champion but you are next in line and might be one day’.

Actually they do which is why many record holders for consecutive defenses started with their reg or interim and led to them beating the main champ and every single one counted.....like I said do some research No one, in the history of this sport, has had their interim title counted toward legit title defenses. GGG is the first person I’ve ever seen in which his fans have started trying to use a fake, nothing interim title to make it seem like he has more defenses than he does. Interim titles are not legit titles. There is the champion and the interim holder...ie the top contender. He isn’t the champion though.

They’re totally different in their approach, so it’s very hard to determine which is the better counter puncher. They are at the opposite ends of the spectrum in how they operated and used their counters. Toney was more an in the pocket, defensive counter puncher while Marquez was an outside, aggressive counter puncher that used high punch combinations and power punching. Both absolutely amazing. I like Marquez for his combinations and going balls to the wall to land some of the best combos I think we’ve ever seen and Toney for the way he set up his counters inside and off his defense. Hard to compare them though as they fought so different.

Jab, jab, move, tie up, jab, jab, tie up, move, jab,,, that’s all Bernard did until the 10 sec warning in round 2. Then it was jab, jab, BOOM with the right hand.. masterclass on how you set traps and how to setup the right hand. Entire fight, hopkins has his right hand glued to his face, blocking Tito’s left hook.. Left hook from Tito, Hopkins counters with his own hook. Hook for hook,,, until BOOM, 9th rd, hopkins unleashes the straight right, hadn’t used hardly at all the whole fight, Tito has no idea what has hit him, and Hopkins just brutalizes him with the straight right in the 9th. By the 11th Tito loses composure and the fight turns dirty, Hopkins in his head, ref intervenes, ref is checking hopkins, hopkins just gives Tito the death stare, and then calmly walks out and delivers a brutal uppercut combination right before the bell. 12th, hopkins still has the right hand glued to his face, blocks Tito’s left hook, and counters with a brutal hook to end the fight. Masterclass all the way thru, not even Floyd mayweather has a complete dissection of an A+ fighter like hopkins did that night. A true master, showing all his tricks in one fight. My favorite fight to rewatch, just to see the genius of hopkins You see him set up the same combo one or two rounds earlier too. He knew that Tito would counter the left uppercut with his left hook naturally, so in round 10 or 11 (maybe even one earlier in the fight too I think) he throws a left uppercut from outside, but deliberately wide to draw the left hook counter which he then catches and counters with the right that stopped him. Amazing combo and set up.

I think he just looked like an old fighter frankly. Certain guys are able to essentially bring the age out of you, if they’re good enough. To me, Rigo just looked old and a bit **** and Loma is fast enough and good enough to make his age very apparent and a factor.

It wasn't the #1 fight of the year but Breazeale vs Ugonoh was really good. One of the most underrated of the year. Had everything and I think was a more exciting than AJ/Wlad but didn’t have the big ‘title fight’ anticipation and impact. Just a straight up, knock down, drag out war.

I'm surprised you made this thread. You always liked come forward fighters who throw a lot of punches and have little defense. RG fits all criterias. But yes, I always hated how overrated he's been. When he first got ranked at #1 P4P was after beating Valentin Leon, who was 38-29. The explanation was for his body of work leading up to that TKO. He went from entering the top 10 P4P by beating Yaegashi, who retired afterward, to moving up a little more for beating Rocky Fuentes, and then finally, moving into #1 after beating Valentin Leon. The absolute strangest rise to #1 P4P i've seen while watching boxing since the 1990s. Yaegashi won another title after the Gonz fight, which he only just lost recently. Also, no one put him P4P for beating Leon. It was a stay busy fight back in Managua that no one even watched. One fight against a scrub doesnt put anyone P4P when you're beating legit champions around them.

Both of these fights are going to be sick. Can't wait and they're to pick. Well, Gonzalez should win his I think (again, despite judges) but this one is really hard to pick. I love fights where I have absolutely no idea who'll win. Cracking day for boxing.
