The usual boxing shenanigans.
I hope Boots and Ortiz realize that not every fighter gets the huge pot of gold at the end of the rainbow (Crawford vs Canelo) after their superfight was delayed (Crawford vs Spence) because of boxing politics.
Munguia is protected. He will face Berlanga or Mbilli where he has a chance to win.
I don't know, Munguia might not fancy having to deal woth Mbili high work rate. He'll probably go the Pacheco route for more money.
Quebec is some sport of heaven for your "champs" there: they all get PPV fights... :)
Yep as soon as they make it to "championship level", they are off to PPV and usually stay PPV. After his loss to GGG (no shame in this) Lemieux was still PPV and he will still be PPV after BJS.
... what "states"?... :)
... I'm from Bucharest (Romania)...
... I'll stream the fight, as usual...
... fortunately, I'll have the Garcia vs Rios card for free on a local TV channel (this because Ronald Gavril is Romanian)...
Nice! Did they do the same for Lucian Bute back in the days?
Of course: I've watched all his fights on "local" TV... :)
Nice! We weren't so lucky here in Montreal, all his fights were PPV (even if they were on regular Showtime or HBO in the US)
damn, his right hand is gold
aj vs windmill
whoever land their haymaker 1st will win
lawl, rip cuban
2 of their boxers lost today
lara next...
I'm almost always rooting for them but Cubans rarely catch a break in boxing despite their immense talent. That being said, props to Wilder and War Lara!
Phenom is a great way of putting it.
Exactly how I see the division. I am a fan of both Kovalev and Bivol but feel that would be a passing of the torch fight especially after seeing last nights performances. (Mikalkhin better than expected but I thought Kovalev looked quite bad).
I know Mikalkhin was all bloody and got stopped but is it me or Kovalev's right hand didn't seem to have its usual thump. I don't like this current version of Kovalev's against the other top dogs at LHW. In hindsight, Barrera probably made a bad decision, it should have went the Kov's route instead of Bivol.
Well, he did drop Porter in the last round and finally let his hands go a bit in the last rounds against Mikey. So you're way off, Broner actually waits to long to do anything. He thinks he's slicker and cuter than he is and did almost nothing in the first half of his losses.
That's exactly what I think: Broner tries to win cute and "finesse" his way. He wants to land the "pretty" 1-2, the flashy check left hook and frustrate his opponent with his defense like Floyd. For a guy who has fought Maidana and Broner, he should have used their strategy and just try to bully and out-muscle Garcia. Though his ego probably won't ever let him try to win "ugly"!
Garcia by decision. Easter either doesn't have a good boxing IQ or his corner sucks. He's blessed with significant height and reach advantages yet never uses them. Instead he'll hunch over and go to war thereby completely nullifying his advtanages. He doesn't fight tall, he strays off his game plan far too often and engages in the trenches, at times he has a tendency to do a Broner and throw single shots...
He's a talented kid who's potential is being held back. Garcia is the tidier, disciplined, composed boxer and that will show
I hear you. That's what he did against Shafikov. Instead of fighting on the outside and cruise to a "boring" decision, he decided a lot of times during the fight to stand in the middle and bang with Shafikov. As a result, the fans got a more "entertaining" fight. Is it a lack of boxing IQ or a genuine desire to "bang" and please the crowd?
Porter stays busy no matter what...back when he was supposed to fight Thurman in March last year instead of June he did a live sparring session to not get rusty
Garcia will have to do one of three things: face Porter, have a rematch against Peterson, or answer the call of Errol Spence. The Peterson rematch is just an idea I threw out there but it may be better for Danny to take that
Speaking of Lamont, is he going to sit on his mandatory spot until Thurman throws him a bone sometime in 2018!
Those are obvious be-headings though. Can you imagine what somebody like Lemieux even would have done to him tonight when he was stumbling all over the ring like a drunken zombie. Both guys would talk mad **** and it would be a competitive fight at this stage
Especially with Conor walking around with his chin sticking out and his left hand down! That being said, Conor still did kind of impress me.
Yeah right lol
He's toast against the top 5 of 147 fighters!
He won't get through the gauntlet with any belts!
He gets put out like a cigarette by Thurman!
Garcia times him and takes his lights out again!
Spence would get charged for assault with a deadly weapon!
Porter brings him to hell and back!
Pacquiao would ice him after a bit of a beating!
His only chance is Jeff Horn without him taking his adrenaline custom PED! Or else he'd ragdolled Khan especially with that ref in Australia!
What about Bud once he moves up!
I don't know or care if Groves or anyone else is worried about a potential future fight, but can you not understand why fighting one of the only legit 2 threats in the tournament semifinal could be worrying considered if he comes up short in that fight he's losing out on a $1.5M win bonus + the payday for the finals fight & potentially a $2M win bonus for the finals fight? Thats probably $5M+ he's losing out of if he loses to Eubank Jr. From a purely money point of view I can see how this could be sweat inducing for anyone, but specifically anyone with a legit shot to win the whole thing.
This is a $10M for the winner tournament. This isn't a speculative thing. If Jamie Cox wins his next 3 fights he's got $10,000,000 in his bank account. Thats gonna present a unique stress level for many competitors cuz usually your future success in boxing is always a unsure thing to a much higher degree.
This!
I must admit Eff Pandas and Redd Foxx are one of the few on this forum who comment with rationality and common sense.
I think Porter would fight anyone. He's got a W over Usyk as an amateur iirc. He's got no f#cks to give & giant giraffe balls.
That would be an interesting fight since to sum it up (very basically), Spence is a much more refined version of Porter.
They coulda put him on the Floyd vs Conor undercard vs Porter.
Granted that woulda got f#cked with Porter falling out, but no one gave a f#ck about Porter vs Dulorme & Spence needs a fight, Porter always wants a fight. Lets f#cking fight.
I don't know if he wants THAT fight!
I agree with alot of what you guys said. I think we "hardcore" fans often make the mistake of applying the traditional definition of a North American "star" (the one used for a pop star, nba athlete, etc) to the boxing "ecosystem". For example, for the boxing ecosystem, GGG is a star but by the traditional metrics used in America, I doubt he is. To me, regarding Crawford, the real question is: "Is Bud already a star despite his "poor" PPV sale so far"?
The other issue for me is that boxing does a very poor job of developing its "potential" stars. For example, young, "good looking guys" (no homo) like the Charlo twins with actual above-average boxing skills should be on the path to becoming stars in the traditional sense of term.
Are you kidding me? That's all Rigo's been doing for the past couple of months, putting the pressure on Loma...Arum, in a recent interview, said TR and Roc Nation are now negotiating too. If anything Loma is the one that should be more vocal about his desire for a Rigo fight (to at least increase interest in the fight, which is good for both his and Rigo's bottom line)...
I know he has been very active on Twitter but there is nothing like being on site where the casuals can put a face and a name together. That's all I'm saying. For the record, I'd rather have Loma-Rigo at 130 than Mikey-Loma at 135lbs.
Another reason why boxers have a hard time becoming stars:
https://twitter.com/VasylLomachenko/status/894325953630920704
Vasyl forget your "hit list" done via twitter using initials trying to be slick, you had a goddamn microphone stuck in front of you live on ESPN right after your fight saturday, call out these guys instead of giving a generic answer!
I don't care if he calls out someone or not next Saturday. All I know is that Marriaga will be his second tuneup in a row. Lomachenko and his team have been "running their mouths" too much since the Sosa fight to comeup with a third tuneup later this year. I'm expecting a big fight to close out the year whether against 1)Rigo (at 130 if need be), 2) Mikey or 3) a unification fight at 130lbs!
hes a cheating bum that got battered and lost to some bosnian dude. if you want to watch corruption from the ref and judges just watch this fight, horrible horrible robbery:
Thank you!
How do you not accept $5M for a bs guy not unlike a bs guy you were already gonna fight for $1M?
Obviously I don't think all that highly of Whyte. Although in fairness I don't think Wilder is all that skilled either & will have some L's to some cats not unlike Whyte by the time he retires so who f#cking knows, but if you are fighting bad &/or unproven, fringe opponents why wouldn't you fight another one for 5x the money you are making?
F#ck any ego sh^t or anti-UK sh^t. It makes sense + it builds up the Joshua vs Wilder fight.
Indeed, I understand pride but this is heavyweights boxing, one right hand on a given night can send you into retirement and Wilder hasn't made this kind of money yet!
They don't seem to be articulate.
Indeed, they might be a still bit "raw" for a lack of better word. But to me, so far, they seem to be always "on the edge" whether it's fight week or post fight. Both Charlos seem like they are ready to "explode" at any moment, they always seem tense, carrying a huge chip on their shoulders. By comparison, Spence, who is also from the south, always seems to be laid back and cool.
Watch......They don't want it. Mikey is 29 years old and Robert is talking like he's a prospect. The Garcias cherry pick people they are sure they will beat like Broner. Didn't fight Gamboa when they had the opportunity for years and most certainly wont fight Crawford.
It is well documented that Mikey didn't fight Gamboa because TR would only sign off the fight if Mikey signed a contract extension which was a no go for Mikey.
The bad guy role suits Jermal well. Spence's dad seems laid back and cool too. I have never seen his dad do an interview or try to hog the limelight.
I must admit, the Charlos could play the vilains if they want too: they got the look for it, the demeanor, etc. Let's say that if Spence wanted to be Batman they could be his Joker.
For example, Porter is another guy that, though he is short could be turned into a star with his bright smile, the relationship he has with his dad. The same could be said for a guy like Loma. I feel like boxing has quite a few guys that have that "star look".
I doubt Kovalev would take a 3rd loss in a row well... So he won't risk it against Beterbiev, Gvozdyk, Bivol or Stevenson level opponents...
Anything in the likes of Fonfara, Browne, Smith Jr, or Barrera would do as far as rankings...
But my guess is the next opponent will be a quality tune up ... so I say Rodriguez, Dawson, Williams Jr, Cleverly...
How do you guys rate Marcus at the moment? I've liked what I've seen from him against Williams Jr. and Monahan.
Yeah official attendance tonight 4102.
Granted ESPN and HBO probably pay good money to air his fights but him still fighting in front of 3000-5000 people despite high 6 digits paydays is one of the reasons why Arum has to bring him along carefully and can't afford the chance of a Rigo or a Mikey derailing the train at this moment even though Loma's talent warrants this level of opposition.
