For anyone who thinks that was a robbery your out of your mind! Stop hating on floyd he won that fight ! 8-4 mayweather, Maidana missed soooo many punches were as floyd connected over 50%. Trying to brawl on the ropes swinging wild punches and missing isn't going to win you the fight, floyd stood there and traded and always landed the cleaner and more telling punches. Anyone who thinks Maidana won that fight is straight ridiculous
People crying about the gloves...what good are the gloves if you CAN'T land punches...Floyd took ever the second half of the fight.
Funny you should make this post, for I wrote a long E-mail to a friend last night about how I missed hearing Manny Steward's commentary. So, Yeah...I miss him, too.
Agreed he knew his stuff and was unbiased. RIP
It has almost become ceremonial for Khan to say "you'll see a new amir khan for this fight", but for this fight he did seem to box like a veteran against Collazo. The defense was very impressive and didn't get emotional and caught in an exchange. Holding was too much at times though.
So guys do you see change/improvements in Khan's style?
Also 4-0 vs Brooklyn. :biggthump
I'm glad he dropped the 6 punch combos. Devastating body shots. He looked good and he definitely LOOKED like a WW.
Like you said if he doesn't get emotional in exchanges he can wreak havoc in the WW division.
He still could use further improvements though. Never seen him throw any upper cuts or over hands much, it would be good to add some variety to his attack and he could pick up a thing or too off floyd for defense.
I was extremely opposed to it for awhile, but Khan looked pretty good tonight. Let Khan vs. Mayweather happen in September. Then Porter and Thurman can fight by the end of the year and the winners fight next year. What do you guys think?
P.S. I know Khan is saying Ramadan is going to cause a problem in making that fight, but I'm pretty sure Allah will understand him taking off this year :boxing:
Chino didn't connect much and Floyd only really dominated in the center of the ring...somewhere khan enjoys hanging out. Khan looked good tonight. He still needs to improve a few things offensively and defensively.
He would give mayweather a tough fight as paulie said...khan knows how to win rounds
Kahn did look more ripped that usually. First thing I thought when I saw him
In interested to see if worked on his legs at all. Hope he isn't just top heavy - he needs mobility. That being said he looks in great shape - I'm beginning to think welter weight is where he belongs.
Khan only wants the Mayweather fight for a big payday and a potential Brook fight, selling out Wembley Stadium, is a bigger fight financially. Also, Brook is the one who's calling the shots now. He's got the belt and has options at 147 while Khan is begging for fights against contenders on the off chance that he gets a Mayweather payday. It makes sense for Khan to wait for the Brook fight, which he doesn't have to earn.
Khan is not hurting for money. He just wants to fight Mayweather because god bless him - he thinks he can beat him. The big money would come afterwords, if he did beat mayweather.
Kindela won in the Olympics that year but even that match khan was coming on near the end but ran out of rounds. Not taking anything a way from kindela he was countering khan well in that fight but khan was tightening up the gap near the end.
Cotto is an aging fighter too, so the only one being pandered to is Canelo. He is not Arum's fighter so why do it at Cotto's and potentially Pacquiao's expense? People have been screaming about this fight and arguing to death over it, and now it has a chance to happen, the self same fans care more about another fight (because Bob Arum told them to)? You couldn't make this up.
What is sooo great about Canelo ... he got spanked by floyd. He looks like a boring fighter to me.
Lamont self confessed he was on PEDs and he didn't win if you consider the changed socre card. If you take out the changed score card, by a non judge, Khan won that fight. Anyway only an idiot would consider a corrupt fight as proof of anything.
Khan still beat a very game Diaz, who many people think beat Porter, and this was after Khan lost to Garcia, so his performance was understandable. He is now back to his imperious boxing best.
Interesting to see no one mentioned a single name at welter that could outbox Khan. I agree with you guys, I don't think there is a single person at welter who could out box Khan.
So many pundits had it 50/50 with Alexander, and Khan won every single round. Easily the greatest boxing display of the year. Period.
Still had Khan winning against Peterson even with the deducted points/reffing etc.
I think Thurman takes it. People are giving Thurman are hard time for yesterday, but he won all 12 rounds against a fighter who pretty much was just trying to survive. Maidana will just come forward & that will favor Thurman since he's a lot quicker.
Thurman wins easy. He moves well and can box if necessary.
Dumb match up. Khan would destroy Broner. Khan has his way with shorter fighters. Broner wants no part of this...and really there is nothing to gain for khan AT all since maidana just beat up Broner recently.
many people will disagree but i think amir khan can beat him
I don't think many people disagree. reach, speed, activity, height, and enough power to make you at least think twice. Why do you think bradley's been dodging khan.
Khan hasn't shown arrogance. That doesn't mean he's not arrogant but so far he seems like a real down to earth kid.
Don't kid yourself. Khan is one of the most arrogant fighters in boxing.
Honest not arrogant, did you see his Lopez late night talk show interview. He openly came out and said he got knocked out and made no excuses for it, seems humble to me

I had Maidana winning 5 rounds in a fight where all he had was a punchers chance. Its not like Khan schooled him or anything, if anything Maidanas rugged style made Khan look vulnerable.
I scored exactly like you did.
Round 4 I gave to khan for throwing/landing more, I see how some could give it to maidana for aggression
Round 5, I gotta say maidana was being a douche the entire match, no sportsmanship whatsoever, I didnt see the foul Until one replay from a certain angle and yes he was trying to ELBOW someone don't know who it was for but Cortez got it. He didnt complain much, he was being a dick period.
Round 10 when Amir got rocked a few times, it's still a 10-9 round not 10-8 or anything because up until amir got his bell rung he was winning the round and the fact that he actually never fell LOL amazingly
I don't see how you can give round 11 to maidana, khan ran for a good 45 seconds but after that he was landing much more than maidana was, sure maidana was being the aggressive but he didnt land anything! Amir was connecting more
Round 12 mmm amir tries to steal the round late with some big flurries but I will give the round to maidana.
I laughed a few times because maidana almost went through the ropes twice in the match as amir ducked his shots I believe one was in round 10 that woulda been embarrasing LOL.
Last thought at the beginning of round 10 Maidana was SLOW getting off his seat - amir had to wait for him in the center. I think amir took this as a sign of him being tired - big mistake and got careless? I don't know if maidana did this on purpose but it worked LOL :cool2:
Bradley was scared to lose.
pretty much khan and him were 1 and 2, it was time to unify the decision and he plain ducked. Well, unfortunately it has worked out rather nicely for Bradley. He will get his big payday. I think paq will finish him early unless he gets a headbutt in.
ya I was watching highlights and I wasn't really paying attention to the first few seconds of the first round until I heard a big commotion from the fans, seems amir had to duck right away after he was attempting to touch gloves with maidana at the start of the fight (is that really too much to ask from maidana?)
Seriously and lets suppose khan gets knocked out from that, would maidana be all proud? Agree with the rabbit punching, and that elbow - look at his eyes he really did want it to land until the last second. He is a tough fighter but no class.
People watch Khan as he's been in some exciting fights. Go and watch Khan-Maidana and Khan-Peterson once you've finished sucking your morning d1ck.
I never said he'd win or it would be close. But there's various interesting elements- Khan's speed trying to penetrate Mayweather's defence, Khan having a similar reach and trying to keep Mayweather on the end of his jab, Mayweather's movement and counter punching in response to the speed and so on.
what this guy said. If it goes 12 khans speed/volume will be a big factor. Khan definitely needs a few fights at the higher weight. He needs to bulk up quite a bit. He can't be going into a fight weighing 5 pounds less than his opponent. I think that might have been a reason peterson was able to take his punches well.
I don't know how people are saying garcia was winning round 3, looked like more of the same to me. Garcia was occasionally landing in ALL rounds.
Not sure if HBO was as biased as you guys say, the commentators even said themselves khan was getting hit and taking risks. When YOU MUTE THE SOUND you no longer hear punches...not a good way to judge fights - you need SOUND ON.
What I did notice is low blows by Garcia. 3 in 3 rounds and a few that were NOT called.
Khan should have jabbed more that would have messed up Garcia's timing
Finally, Round 4 was awesome. That was a great round I wish the ref let it go on but I guess it was good for khan that he stopped it. Both fighters were just looking for the money shot and khan was landing pretty heavy shots on garcia but garcia was smart enough not to go too crazy and broke him down.
no one can deny his hand speed and his accuracy is decent aswell. Only a biased troll would deny him that. He is blazing fast. His jabs to have some zing to them too, garcia was being dominated until the "neck out"
bradley pac : boring. khan mayweather : something interesting is going to happen - whether khan gets knocked out, or say wins a decision, it will be a much more enjoyable fight.
No need to switch,Ariza just needs to make a better blend of his special shakes that's all.
He needs to stop throwing 6 punch combo's - stick with 2-3 punches with his speed thats all he needs to do. I want him to come in 5 pounds heavier too like lamont. I believe fight night lamont gained 5 more pounds than amir going into the ring.
I give Props for Peterson giving Khan a rematch. I think Khan will win the rematch though.
Why props? looks like the only reason this fight is happening is because khan filed a complaint, who knows if peterson would have fought khan if he wasn't forced to.
I'd like to see khan put on more pounds after the weigh in too. Peterson had 5 pounds on him in the ring.
I had khan winning even with the deductions. Lets see what roach does to improve khan more. If I don't see an improvement, maybe its time for khan to get a different trainer.
Your scorecard is 113-112 to Khan.
I agree but gave second round to Khan.
No sound. No commentary and no crowd influence.
On the night of the fight, I had Peterson winning the fight. I didn't score it but felt it. Some rounds were really close and could have gone either way.
It depends on what you were looking for I guess.
Here's my scorecard:
Khan-Peterson
Round 1: 10-8
Round 2: 9-10 (IMO, Peterson did enough at the end to take it, but just)
Round 3: 9-10
Round 4: 9-10
Round 5: 10-9 (Khan starts to box more from the outside)
Round 6: 10-9
Round 7: 8-10 (Point deduction)
Round 8: 9-10
Round 9: 10-9 (Very close round, gave to Khan because he hurt Peterson)
Round 10: 10-9
Round 11: 10-9
Round 12: 9-9 (Point deduction but Khan did enough work to make it a 9-9 round)
Final score: 113-112 to Khan
Many may disagree with this card but it's what I saw after re-watching the fight. Like I said before, I had Khan losing on the night itself.
All in all it was a great fight. Would love to see a rematch (whenever it happens).
Khan seriously needs to work on his inside game though. He has really good bodyshots but doesn't use them as much as he should. Nodding his head during the time a good inside fighter is in you face is ridiculous.
He is one-dimensional.
Peterson on the other hand fought the perfect fight but I feel he layed off the pedal down the stretch. Round 9 onwards he decreased his output significantly and it lost him the fight.
had pretty much the same card as you but how do you give the 2nd to peterson? The attempt to steal the round was too little too late imho. First time i watched it I had it 114-111 for khan the second rewatch i gave peterson the benifiti of the doubt on alot of rounds and still had khan winning
howabout givin khan some of his own medicine? denied prescott & maidana rematches. he wouldnt give peterson a rematch if he won i bet....let him wait
maidana had 12 rounds to knock him out - he didnt. How many rounds did maidana win?? Thought so. HOW many fights has presscott won after the khan fight? Thought so.
DOES PETERSON REALLY THINK HE WON???? forget watching the fight, listen to the corner men. almost all the late rounds lamont peterson's corner were begging him to actually SOMETHING and lame motivational speeches. if lamont doesn't offer a rematch - immediately - I say khan should just bite the bullet and bolt to 147. Forget chasing these oppenents like bradley and (i really hope not) peterson, leave the division with your drawing power and let them weep. if pete does give an immediate rematch hats off to him, for having some decency.
