Amir Khan v Kell Brook lined up for next May.
Exclusive: Kell Brook and Amir Khan are each one fight away from a British blockbuster showdown at Wembley as Carl Froch's Las Vegas dream dies
Kell Brook will face Amir Khan in another blockbuster night at Wembley Stadium next May if the undefeated International Boxing Federation welterweight champion comes through the first defence of his title at the Sheffield Arena on Dec 6.
Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed the news on Friday as part of a series of top-level fights planned for the next eight months, including the next move for two-belt super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch.
In the wake of the enormous success of Carl Froch v George Groves at Wembley Stadium in May this year, watched by a sell-out crowd of 80,000, negotiations are already under way for both Brook and Khan to face their respective opponents at the Sheffield Arena in December, and should both win, they will be matched to meet at Wembley Stadium in May 2015.
The Arena in Sheffield holds 12,000 seats, and a sell-out looks guaranteed. That card, as well as Wembley Stadium, could be a pay-per-view event on Sky.
Hearn told The Daily Telegraph that the Sheffield card will also include another eagerly-anticipated rematch, between former light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew. The pair fought for Cleverly’s World Boxing Organisation 175lb title in October 2011 which the champion won by majority decision. Both men have moved up to cruiserweight since.
Hearn also said that “Carl Froch against Julio Cesar Chavez in Las Vegas now looks unlikely and we are looking for Carl to defend his WBA and IBF titles in London, probably the O***8322; Arena, against James DeGale in February”.
Brook clearly wants to settle a rivalry with former light-welterweight world champion Khan which stretches back to sparring against each other during their amateur days. “This is the beginning. I want to defend my title and bring big crowds to Sheffield. I want to display my skills at the highest level.
“I’ll defend my title on Dec 6 at Sheffield Arena. I’m excited to defend my title in front of a big, full crowd. I want to give back to the fans who have supported me for many years now,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
why not fight in December?
Khan is scheduled to fight in United States and Kell Brook wants to defend his newly won title in his home city of Sheffield, U.K.
Khan would almost certainly make more money fighting Brook than he would fighting Mayweather.
If he chose Mayweather over Brook, it would be for the challenge, not the payday. I'd have to admire it.
Which is something so many here just don't get. Money is everything, but not the ONLY thing in Khan's case.
Khan and Brook won't be on the same card on Dec 6th.
Brook will fight in Sheffield.
Khan will fight in the US on a Golden Boy card.
Precisely.
Brook in front of 80k+ and national coverage by millions and millions is bigger than the Mayweather fight.
Yes, but Kell is not Floyd Mayweather Jr.
I see people say Khan-Brook is big, but is it Mayweather big? It would no doubt be financially rewarding for Khan to take Kell than Floyd, but if dollars and cents were the only thing then don't you think he would've taken him for $5 million than take Collazo a more dangerous opponent (at the time) for $ 1.5 mil just to be on Mayweather's under card?
Fighting Floyd is not just about money for Khan, but the prestige that comes with it and the possibility of becoming the first man to beat him.
Khan only wants the Mayweather fight for a big payday and a potential Brook fight, selling out Wembley Stadium, is a bigger fight financially. Also, Brook is the one who's calling the shots now. He's got the belt and has options at 147 while Khan is begging for fights against contenders on the off chance that he gets a Mayweather payday. It makes sense for Khan to wait for the Brook fight, which he doesn't have to earn.
Khan is not hurting for money. He just wants to fight Mayweather because god bless him - he thinks he can beat him. The big money would come afterwords, if he did beat mayweather.
If this is true then I think Khan's December opponent will not be Alexander or Guerrero but a much lessor fighter instead. Team Khan won't want to fight anybody that good and have the risk of losing and blowing the Brook fight. Khan might be paid more to fight Brook than he would be paid to fight Mayweather who pays his opponents surprisingly little. Neither Guerrero nor Alexander would be stupid enough to greatly lessen their chances of winning by fighting Khan in England in a fight they are suppose to lose so that the Brook-Khan fight can happen.

I'm still not totally convinced this will happen.... let's say Mayweather offers Khan the fight in may after his december fight then surely he would take that instead of Brook?
If he was to beat Brook in may he still wouldn't get the fight with Floyd unless he pushed the date back which is unlikely.
You always mad mate, Khan ain't getting no Mayweather shot I'll bet my house on it, no one in America wants to see that fight, he'll be fighting Kell in May at wembley.
If Khan gets a big win at 147, u can bet ur bottom dolla, Al will make the fight happen
Floyd already spoke on it happening
After the debacle between Brook/Alexander which eventually didn't happen I wouldn't be surprised if Khan/Brook do not fight this year the fight will likely take place in 2016 at the earliest. Rather it now.
Khan will fight Mayweather and there is a demand for it.
If FMJr gives Khan about $2 million for the fight, Hearn would pay Khan no less than $5 million for a Wembley fight with Brook -- I trust...

From who??

Lmfao. Yeah sure.
Khan vs Brook at Eithad Stadium would be Nice...
Don't think it would sell out Wembley.
Kell Brook is not even known in my area lol.
Lool that's what I'm saying, Wembley is a dream. In a 30-40000 seater it might work.
But that card I'm interested in is Dec, khan and Brook in different fights, with the cleverly and bellew rematch. Khan v Devon would be a good match up.

Agreed with the above.
Some people just don't understand the business side of boxing
It's not even that hard! it's quite simple. At this point there's only two viable options for Floyd in May ; Danny Garcia or Amir Khan.
Unless Danny puts on a big fight against a legit WW by the end of the year he is not going to get the nod. Right now Amir is better positioned for the Mayweather fight, all he needs is a win against a top 10 welterweight.
You guys really think Al, Showtime, and GBP are going to let Floyd's only option go to the UK for another fight? who is Floyd going to fight then?
Kell Brook is going to have to fight a defeated Amir Khan, only way that fight happens.
