Is Roach all wrong for Khan?

He needs to learn some defensive skills, the defensive side of his game is utterly useless. He throws wild combos without sitting down on them and then runs away when he get's clipped; if someone taught him how to defend and roll punches he'd be a whole lot better.

Part of the attraction of going with Roach was getting tons of free PR by association with Manny. Making a media creation as much as a boxing star. Khan has a big entourage of hanger on Khlingons (Team Khan)who are now in a groove and comfortable.Changing coaches would have to be negotiated with them so there would be politics in the decision. Khan needs to develope infighting skills and learn to fight like a real pro not an amateur. I don't think Roach is capable to teach him this and can't see Khan wanting to leave the Wild Card gym. The sensible solution would be to have him joint trained by someone who can teach him how to fight on the inside and to me Bernard Hopkins would be the ideal candidate. However this will not be an easy task as Khan's hit and run style is hard wired into his MO. Revisionist Historian here.. lol.. As if Pac was as big as he is now when he went with Roach...

He went with Jorge Rubio who thought him the Cuban style of boxing, and he got himself KO'd by Prescott in 60 seconds... And now you want him to become a boxer and fight like Floyd or Tommy Hearns.. Amir is a fighter who utilizes his speed and punching power.. Tryin to switch him to another trainer and make him change his style to be more of a boxer is goin' to be a disaster...Its not his style... People want to blame Roach for Amir's lose forgetting why he went with Roach to begin with..

khan would be damn near unbeatable if steward teaches him to fight using his height and reach advantages I agree, I wonder and still do, why he wasn't jabbing more and kept Peterson @ bay and went for a straight right when Peterson was lunging forward. Instead he was backpedaling and pushed down Peterson's head and pushing him away. Wrong game plan completely. Steward would be great for him.

I don't know about trainers---but i will say that one thing the peterson fight showed was that khan doesn't have much in the way of power---if some dude can walk through your punches and make you run around the ring, you will lose. fact is, there are a lot of guys with a better chin that peterson and more power in their hands---this will catch up with khan and then good night sweet prince good night

Emmanuel Steward is the jab trainer, and Khan needs to incorporate that punch heavily in his repertoire. Khan usually has the height and reach advantage, so he needs to utilize it properly. I think Steward would get him working the jab more intelligently, and would get him to improve his inside game too.

I think he'd mesh up well with Steward. Steward has his guys fighting tall and boxing w/ fundamentals and then when the timing is right, go for the gusto. He has too many soft skills and talent to not be able to keep a guy off of him w/o resorting to blatant throws. Roach has him fighting, whether it comes from tendency or not to fight like Pacquaio, but they aren't in the same class of speed, power and chin

IMO he is you can’t take away the fact Khan has bags of talent but his style is so amateurish. His style got exposed by Peterson! Got a poll going! Who do you think he would be better off with? Yeah, he needs a different trainer, but he needs to keep Ariza though. Ariza's conditioning, saved his @$$ in the Maidana and Peterson fights.

They are just a poor fit. Hes got Khan fighting like a bootleg Pacquiao

Roger or Manny in my opinion would be a better choice, but i think he'll be fine with roach

Roach never really teaches his fighters how to box. It seems as though he teaches them to throw wild punches with power from awkward angles and then take a step to the right. His fighters also have pretty bad defense.

i been saying this myself.He needs to sit down when thrwoing combos, more power, an like the guy above said, threes an maybe fours, rather than 5 or 6 lighter ones.

No need to switch,Ariza just needs to make a better blend of his special shakes that's all. He needs to stop throwing 6 punch combo's - stick with 2-3 punches with his speed thats all he needs to do. I want him to come in 5 pounds heavier too like lamont. I believe fight night lamont gained 5 more pounds than amir going into the ring.
